oos tuition

how much is worth it to pay as an out-of-state engineer?
and out of stater thinkig of premed?

28% of the student body at UVa chose to come OOS and pay OOS tuition. My D was among them (also pre-med). She chose the university over other highly ranked privates (ex: Northwestern, BC Honors, Wake, etc.). She has friends who selected UVa over Vanderbilt, USC, Tufts, Cornell, Duke, NYU, and even Dartmouth. To my knowledge, they’re all content and enjoying a well-balanced experience. Plus, even though they’re paying considerably more than their IS counterparts, their UVa costs are still on average 5-8K less than many comparable privates.

This year, tuition and fees for out of state total about $37K and room and board comes out to an average of $9 to 10 K. You can find details by googling “cost of attendance” and “virginia.edu”

For US students, UVa has very good need-based aid, but merit aid for new students is limited to the extremely competitive privately-funded Jefferson Scholarships.

Thank you both! As an engineer, would it be easier to pay off debt bc the starting salary is so high?
