<p>It’s that time of year again. Opening Day and a multitude of baseball movies are being shown on the various television channels. Right now FMC is showing It Happens Every Spring.</p>
<p>I like Field of Dreams, but my wife hates it.</p>
<p>One of the worst has to be ***The Babe Ruth Story ***with William Bendix. Many people like Pride of the Yankees, but I think it is too scmaltzy.</p>

<p>I watched “Sugar” over the weekend. Interesting story about baseball
recruits from the Dominican Republic. The last scene is the best.</p>
<p>My favorites are “A League of Their Own” and “Pride of the Yankees”.</p>
<p>I don’t like “Field of Dreams”. Kevin Costner and Amy Madigan are just
plain annoying.</p>
<p>LOVE Field of Dreams. Another favorite - The Natural. I love schmaltz!</p>
<p>Fever Pitch!!! Just wish my dad had lived long enough to see the Red Sox win the World Series…</p>
<p>Besides films already mentioned I like Bull Durham, ( also with Costner),
and Eight men Out ( by one of my favorite directors John Sayles), about the 1919 Chicago Black Sox & if you like Field of Dreams- you really should see Eight Men Out</p>

<p>EmeraldK—ANY friend of the films of Mr. Sayles, is a friend of mine! Eight Men Out, is one of the smartest films about sport ever made. (and of course he wrote the screenplay and does a great acting turn as a reporter)</p>

<p>Most people I know, have * still* not really heard of him, or they don’t pick their movies by director. I have loved basically every movie that I have seen that he has ever made- the only other director I can say that about is Pedro Almod</p>
<p>Bull Durham is hands down my favorite baseball movie, one of my favorite movies, period.</p>

<p>Sandlot–one of my very favorite movies growing up. Just watched on ABC Family day before yesterday.</p>
<p>A League of Their Own…we watched it in my APUSH class after the AP test. Loved it. =)</p>
<p>We watched most of Field of Dreams in my senior year Econ class (don’t ask), but never finished it.</p>
<p>So, y’all come on over! Schmaltzy or not, we’ve got them all and projector (or whatever you call it nowadays) is ready to go!!! Popcorn and soda (diet, regular, and Pelligrino) is on us.</p>

<p>I do love “The Natural” - and “The Sandlot” was a great favorite when my kids were younger. And “A League of Their Own” is pretty terrific, too. Lots of sentiment in baseball movies, but “Field of Dreams” is way over the top. For some reason it always reminds me of a bad beer commercial.</p>
<p>Bull Durham as my all time favorite - with a nod to The Rookie as a family, dreams come true movie which inspired my son many times over the years when times were tough…</p>
<p>Now, I can’t stand The Natural. The home run at the end is so over the top. Even when Reggie Jackson hit the light pole in Detroit during the 1971 All Star Game, the lights didn’t explode into a cascade of little points of light.</p>
<p>***Field of Dreams ***is a father/son thing for me. The baseball is secondary.</p>
<p>I agree that ***Eight Men Out ***is a great movie - Shoeless Joe Jackson for the Hall of Fame! My late grandfather, who played AAA ball in the teens and twenties always said that he was the greatest natural hitter he had ever seen, including his idol, Ty Cobb.</p>
<p>I always liked “Fear Strikes Out” – nobody plays crazy like Anthony Perkins.</p>

<p>Saw Major League last year and it was better and funnier than I though it would be. </p>
<p>But I’m not hard to please. I really love baseball. I think I’ve seen The Natural three times…so it’ll be a while before that one hits the screen again.</p>

I still have the VHS tape of “The Sandlot” in our movie cabinet. We saw it in the theater and my boys and their friends must have watched it a hundred times at home. It was one of those kid movies that we didn’t mind watching.</p>
