Optometry

How well respected a profession is optometry?
Does it have a good outlook for the future?
are they well compensated for the amount of work they do?
What kind of benefits do optometrists get for working for the IHS?

I recommend visiting these forums for info about optometry.

hmm, thanks for the link, but id also like to see opinions of people not in the profession. What do CC members think?

It’s okay in my book
Yes

Google sez: [IHS Optometry Program - Home](Optometry | Indian Health Service (IHS)), [PayScale - Optometrist Salary, Optometrist Starting Salaries](Optometrist Salary in 2023 | PayScale)

It’s a respected profession. Optometry is generally considered the primary care provider for eye care, while ophthalmologist are the surgical specialist. So for routine eye exams and corrective lens prescriptions it would probably be better and cheaper to go to an optometrist.
