Order of official visits Ivy T@F

Hi all,

My daughter is being recruited by Princeton and Harvard, as well as other Ivys for T@F. H only has 1 official visit date and P has two. H and P will fall on the same day (9/14) and P has a second on 9/28. Is there a disadvantage going to the second at P?

No, unless she is being pressured at her visit to Harvard to commit right then. But these coaches all know that these kids are being recruited by multiple schools and most will give them the necessary time to take all of their visits to make a decision so I doubt that would be the case. Good luck to her!

Thank you for your reply momofthree24.

I agree it shouldn’t be an issue. They’ll usually give reasonable time to complete other visits.

I’d plan the other visits in such a way that she’s ready to make a decision shortly after the Princeton visit if possible.

This can be a challenge if she’s an XC athlete but usually the coaches have some flexibility and will work with recruits if needed.

Thank you! She is not XC, and would definitely be able to decide at that time.

If you are applying for financial aid, make sure you get those pre-reads done as soon as you can. Some Ivy League schools officially don’t match other Ivy League schools, but will reconsider their assessment if given reason to.

We slacked off on getting our financial pre-reads done assuming they would fall into place quickly and neatly. Instead there was a significant (tens of thousands of dollars) difference between schools. This made for a couple of stressful days before my son made his commitment. It wound up being resolved favorably, but it would have been better to have that cleared up before the visits (my bad!)

I had a kid that was an Ivy T&F recruit and received a Likely Letter.
For financial aid, the calculator was helpful though we also spoke directly to the financial aid office a number of times, even after they were accepted. They were very helpful, so I would suggest don’t be hesitant to reach out to them if financial aid or “scholarship” as they called need based aid, if that is a consideration.

Thank you. She’s on the preread, and I will follow up with financials.

I’d have your daughter discuss financial aid prereads with the coaches (if financial aid is part of the decision for you).

There’s a process for this at each of the schools and the coaches know how it works. I agree with recruitparent that once the process starts the FA offices are usually very helpful.

Probably worth letting coaches at other Ivies know Princeton and Harvard are in the picture as this might affect how they approach the FA preread. (Some will just run a Princeton formula based on recruiting contact with Princeton; a few might want to see the Princeton preread to reassess and effectively match or come close).

To glom on to this thread, we’re in talks with an ivy and they just asked when we were planning on coming for our official visit. I told my daughter to ask if they paid for travel…no word yet, but what are the chances? The other D1 we’re interested in (not an ivy) doesn’t pay.

I expect the Ivy will pay for travel for the athlete, at a minimum.

Fingers crossed! This is costing us a fortune.

If a school is not paying but it is an actual financial burden, you should discuss honestly with the coach.

Every Ivy League school my son got that far with paid for his travel to and from the school for the visit.

I think it’s very likely most Ivies will pay for travel for track recruits. That’s been my experience with my kids and the other track recruits we know.

For the official visit, did the school have a specific date for the visit? There are often 1-2 weekends set-up in which multiple recruits will be there at the same time for the OV, which can be helpful.

I’m not sure-- I’m traveling for work and out of the country so getting sporadic updates on where things stand with places, etc.

Harvard has only 1 weekend, Princeton 2 weekends, and the others have at least 2. Each program paid airfare for athlete and hotel room for parents. airfare for parents were not included

Great! We’ve decided to bail on one school (and we’d already bought tix, sigh) so hoping Ivy pays for kid and I’ll repurpose the tix.
