<p>heh… orientation is kind of like summer camp, getting shuttled around to various places by an OA with a bright yellow shirt (that probably smells since they wear them everyday, lol)</p>
<p>awesome! … heh, it does look a lot like summer camp, doesnt’ it?

<p>at least it doesn’t look too bad after the first couple of days.</p>
<p>Laser tag? Live bands? Movies in the sunken garden?</p>
<p>I was expecting all sorts of academic preparation, perhaps split up by a session of Gregorian chant.</p>

<p>no gregorian chant unless you head towards the music department o_O</p>
<p>and yea, Monday and Tuesday should be basically free (if I remember right). Make sure you go to the activities fair. If you are like some W&M kids, you will sign up for 32453 clubs and then wish your email inbox was not overflowing with emails from things you actually have no interest in (nor time to do).</p>
<p>heh, i’m more the kind of person to sign up for one or two clubs and then be like REALLY involved in them… it’s so much simpler that way. </p>
<p>and hey, i, LIKE gregorian chant XD</p>
<p>I always kind of liked the “Family Activity” schedule, and the way it always concludes, like this year:</p>
<p>“This concludes the Orientation program for families. Please travel home safely.”</p>
<p>Which, reading between the lines, (along with other messages the admin sends) says “It’s Over. Go home. <em>Now</em>” </p>
<p>Very gently, but firmly, they separate the kids from the family. For most families, Saturday activities are superfluous, you could go home Friday night. </p>
<p>For a lot of students, the acclimation period is too long - a bit too much like summer camp, as they try to stretch out too few activities over too long a period of time. A lot of kids just want to get started, attend their first class. But others need the time to get comfortable, find out where everything is, de-stress, etc. Overall, the move-in experience seems really good here.</p>
<p>I didn’t find particular joy in many of the activities, but the time to go explore and meet people before class was good to have.</p>
