My old feet discovered the Orthaheel brand sandals/flip flops this past summer and were so very happy. Great support, very comfy.

Reluctantly, I’ve admitted it is now past flip flop weather.
I would love to find a really supportive closed winter shoe with good support.
The Orthaheels I’ve seen online in a closed shoe design don’t appeal to me at all.
Very Mary Jane-ish even if not actually Mary Janes. Strippy velcro straps that sine reviewers claim don’t stay fastened. This would drive me crazy.

Looking for a basic closed moc slip on type thing. Leather preferred by other material fine too. Laces not so much.
So, any suggestions for me to look at? All are appreciated!

Have you checked out Earth Kalso ? I have a pair of their flip flops and also a pair of boots. I wore them to walk all over Oslo when I visited there last winter and loved them :)

Wow, you guys are great!
I post before work and come home to terrific leads.

I LOVE the look of most anything made by Born but have found the actual support in some to be lacking.

I’m in the midst of allergic drug reaction/autoimmune thing/Lyme/something else? and my feet HURT all day long (along with many other parts of my body but that’s a different post)
Found my orthaheel flip flops to give wonderful support but can’t wear them to work nor as winter is setting in.

Thank you so much for all the leads. Can’t wait to settle in with my laptop and check out my choices!

HIghlandMom- your Orthaheel linked shoe is close but not quite the young hip orthopedic shoe my 56 year old feet with a brain that still thinks it’s 26 body is looking for.

Get on Zappos.com and look for…
Reiker
Naot
Wolky…I know you said mocs but the clogs w/back strap are really cute
Danskos saved my life when I had plantar fascitis.

OK, got my list, got the laptop in front of TV, feet up, ahhhh.
Yankees just scored against Baltimore (don’t hold it against me please).

Dansko seems to be getting lots of votes, friends at work had also mentioned it.
Some new to me: Ahna, Reiker, Noat.

Emeraldkity4, fibromyalgia has been mentioned in the mix. I’m only at the beginning of trying to name/treat this ‘thing’. A pair of tolerable shoes would be heaven right now.

One more brand: Arcopedico. I have their black slip-ons that have great support but I feel like I am wearing slippers! I also wear Danskos but love the lower profile of the Arcopedico. Happy feet!

I too love my Orthaheel flip flops. They seem to be the only shoes that help with my bad arch (and I pronate on one foot) For regular shoes, I now look for shoes with a deep enough heal bed so I can put in pair of Powerstep or Superfeet (lime green) inserts. They are amazing

Some Keens are good, and they make nice winter shoes and boots. Others are not as supportive as I’d like. Merrells come in a wide variety of styles, and are my day to day shoe. Danskos have amazing support, but are too hard for my tender feet. Wolky is a new favorite brand.

EK, thanks for putting Born on my radar. Nice styles though have not yet tried any on.

It appears, at least from their sandals, that Orthaheel is virtually identical to Superfeet insoles. Thus, if the Orthaheel works for you, you could probably buy SuperFeet insoles (at any running store) and put them in whatever shoes you like.

Look at the BLUE model for shoes that don’t have an insole you can take out and replace. Look at the BERRY model for shoes with an insole you can remove and replace (like athletic shoes). You can take a pair of shoes to any running or outdoors store (like REI). They have pre-cut demo samples you can just stick in your shoe and walk around the store.

good morning, interesteddad. Thanks for the link for the insoles, I hadn’t thought about adding insoles into my existing shoes, might work.

There is a Rieker shoe I have my eye on. Pricey stuff so I am hesitant to order online without being able to try, though I know the sites all offer free return shipping.
I might have to research brick and mortar stores that carry these brands. Seems like all we have around here are cheapo stores carrying inexpensive stuff that probably isn’t going to work for me now.

musicmom, I am a devoted fan of Superfeet insoles. If you try them, don’t be surprised if they don’t feel wonderful right away. They take a little getting used to but are great once your feet adjust…it doesn’t take long…a few wearings. I wear the pink ones in my running shoes.

Ordering from Zappos is really easy. They ship quickly…usually arriving on your doorstep a day or two after ordering. If they don’t fit,you just print off a return shipping postage page from the website, stick on the box the shoes came in and drop it off at any UPS store. In the past I have ordered two sizes of same shoe and sent back the one that didn’t fit.

If you have a Walking Shoe Company store (the one near me is in a big mall) anywhere near you home, you can shop there for higher end comfort shoes.

Sometimes Nordstroms carries Reiker, Seibel, Naot, Think!,El Naturalista, and other comfort brands. Even if they don’t have the style you want, you may be able to get an idea of how they fit.
I look for reviews from people who have my foot issues ( high arch, short toes, supinate, narrow heel, widish ball of foot), and scrutinize them even if I have to go to more than one website. It sure beats having to go to more than one store!

Last year Orthaheel had a clog called Tarragon and I bought 2 pairs - they were fake leather, but I didn’t care (could only find them at Sears online) They helped me through the winter, but I don’t see them on the website anymore. Zappos seems to have the largest collection of Ortha’s

There is also a company called Tacco (German) that makes amazing arch support. I love the “Nova” footbed (3/4 length) and also for my ballet flats I bought their “Senkfusskeil” which is a strong adhesive arch cushion - they are not easily removable so mark carefully with an ink pen before you place them. I use the small and medium size. I get mine from an old lady shoe store in Minneapolis call Schueler Shoes :p
