Oscar Red Carpet 2016

The show is great this year.

Great song choice in the In Memorium segment!

I agree. Love that song. I got a little verklempt.

@doschicos, :slight_smile:

No matter one’s politics, I think Biden is an upstanding guy. Hard to think of some of our current candidates up there.

I have written thousands of posts on this topic on CC. I agree with Joe Biden.

Great performance by Lady Gaga

Wow! Powerful performance by Lady Gaga. A little watery eyed again. Awards shows aren’t supposed to make me emotional!

Nice to see some sense of social consciousness about a big issue…and one that sadly there are people dismissing it as fantasy, or making claims like there is such a thing as ‘real’ rape (which implies what, that there is such a thing as unreal rape?).

@dstark I think most people aren’t aware how many people are affected by this issue. It’s more common than many people think and I’m sure most of us have a loved one who has been a victim, even if they aren’t aware of it.

@doschicos,
I think you are right. I hope you are right. The alternative isn’t good.
Lady Gaga was sexually assaulted.

Lady gaga stunning, rape victims, child of clergy sexual abuse, victims of bill Crosby abuse- very timely.
Chris Rock’s monologue didn’t disappoint

Jimmy Kimmel on the woman who won the Oscar for Best Costumes for Mad Max: “She looked like Sammy Hagar at Sturgis.” :smiley:

My favorite dresses were Cate Blanchett ( that Seafoam green and the detail was gorgeous). A little frou frou, but fine stunning. The colors and textures of Naomi Watts was #2!

I loved the color and bead work of the actress in Brooklyn, but I do not like, at all, the deep V cuts of dresses in the front. It smashes down all their boobs. And I want to take the ties and pull it up. I like V’s…but not when the book shoes. I thought Heudi Klum looked ridiculous. I wanted to like line Lady Gaga…but I didn’t. Would have been gorgeous as just a dress…but that wouldn’t have been her.

My favorite tux was Bryan Cranstons…sort of a shiny satin jacket…very Oscar cool.

Does anyone think they need to do a better job of showing the dresses on the main channel and E? I get tired flipping back and forth. And what was up with that red dress on the commentator on E? That was awful.

I thought Lady Gaga’s performance was powerful and she sang with such emotion. And, VP Biden’s intro speech was really good.

I guess I’m the only one who thinks this year’s show was boring. I don’t think Chris Rock landed most of his jokes. And the vast majority of people in that room didn’t get the Stacey Dash joke (though maybe that was the point). I thought it was pretty bad overall.

I just saw Kate Winslet’s dress. What was she (and her stylist) thinking?

The girl in the red dress on E looked ridiculous.

I thought the show was ok and there wasn’t, IMO, too many cringe worthy moments or jokes that fell flat.

I would have liked Gaga’s better if it wasn’t pants, too - but at least she has stopped wearing costumes.

I need to go look through some red carpet slide shows because I know I missed a lot during the red carpet while making dinner.

Just did a quick look-see and I love Louise Roe’s dress. Might be my favorite of the evening.

I liked Chris’ monologue for the most part. However, as the show went on, I felt like it was a little disingenuous to insist he was talking about “diversity” in Hollywood. He focused solely on the issue of black actors. The lack of diversity in hiring in the film industry is way more pervasive than that, and AAs are not the only ones who suffer from unfairness in terms of hiring or salary equity in the business. Given the theme of the evening, I thought the joke about the Asian kids was in bad taste. I also found his comment about the film Carol to be mean spirited and rather bizarre.

I usually enjoy Gaga, and last night was no exception.

Cate Blanchette gets my vote for best dressed. I also thought Julianne Moore looked stunning. She usually doesn’t wear black, but it sure suited her last night.

I thought the Oscar broadcast was a big bore also (and the ratings seem to confirm it).

Thoughts: Sam Smith cannot sing. He couldn’t hit the high notes. The song was dreadful.

Please, Leo DiCaprio. Don’t you feel ridiculous lecturing on global warming to millions of ordinary people when you fly the world in a private jet. Really?

Olivia Wilde: Your dress looked like white suspenders smushing your boobs.

Cate Blanchette: your dress was stunning and really complimented your complexion.

Chris Rock: sorry, dude. You are just not funny. Bring back Billy Crystal (or he he too old for Hollywood ageism?)

Different strokes for different folks.

I normally like Chris Rock (and how my whole family loved his show Everybody Hates Chris). I just didn’t like him last night. Some of the material was funny, but because no one laughed it detracted from him. It was all just really self-conscious, not just his part.
