Oscars 2015

I think with this one, probably a one and done is appropriate. I love the idea of Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake!

Yep. He’s out.

I like the idea of Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake co-hosting.

Ellen did a good job hosting her first time, and it took seven years for them to ask her back.

Hosting the Oscars is the hardest hosting job in the business. They can’t be as edgy as the folks hosting the Goldent Globes. They don’t get to write their own stuff and the awards are laboriously long. The Academy wants a celebration of film, they don’t want to offend the actors/directors/writers/producers/execs in the room. They managed to make Chris Rock unfunny. It takes a special touch to be both sincere and funny, especially when most comedy these days is based on snark.

That said, I think Fallon and Timberlake may be able to do well, but again, it all comes down to the writing and lately it’s been bad.

I would be behind giving NPH a second chance, but I like the idea of Fallon and Timberlake as well.

By the way, a little worried that my phone has “Timberlake” in its dictionary…

^^^I disagree. I thought Ellen did a fabulous job last year. Her opening monologue was good, we had the selfie, the pizza, the running out in the Glenda costume after the Judy Garland tribute, etc.

Ahem. Apropos of our discussion, Billie Burke, the actress who played The Good Witch Glinda was a Broadway star, the wife of Florenz Ziegfeld and some kind of a distant–probably very distant, the kind thing only known by people in the countryside in Ireland who know people’s relations to the umpteenth generation–cousin of mine.

Interesting article today…

Elizabeth Von Trapp, who is a granddaughter of Maria Von Trapp (and her dad is Werner, whose name was changed to Kurt in Sound of Music) was enamored with Lady Gaga’s performance of the Sound of Music medley on the Oscars. I know Elizabeth because she resides in the town I lived in for 31 years and she is a singer/songwriter herself. If Gaga’s performance was good enough for a Von Trapp, it’s good enough for me!

I haven’t read all the past couple of dozen pages, but thought this article belongs here. The last paragraph is just lovely.

Beautiful article - thanks for sharing.

Whenever I watch the movie, I always cry as they head up over the mountains at the end, and as the article ends, it notes the last time most people saw them together was when they climbed up over those mountains - as I read it, my eyes teared up.

In the spirit of The Sound of Music, you might enjoy this SOM flash mob which took place in Antwerp, Belgium in 2010:

OK… I’m just a sucker for anything SOM - sitting here with tears streaming down my face. That was awesome.

^^^Who knew that youtube has a whole slew of flash mob videos?! I watched a bunch last night. People can be so funny and creative.

Well good news! Lupita Nyongo’s pearl dress has been found!! Stashed in a second floor bathroom at the hotel. Hope the surveillance video IDs the thief.

Here is an article about gym’s post 533:

Interesting. None of the aother articles say that the pearls were fake. Wonder (just musing, its unlikel but fun to think about) if this is a bait and switch-- steal pearls and replace with fake- and try to convice others they were fale all along. No way could they have replaced all those pearls with substitutes in the short time, but its an entertaining idea-- would make a good movie plot!

Calvin Klein’s point is no-one ever said the pearls were real. Why would they use real pearls? They wouldn’t.

Well for days media has said the dress was worth $150K or more. If the pearls are fake, CK should have spoken up days ago and the fiasco could have been averted.

The media had been quoting someone earlier in the week who speculated the worth of the pearls assuming they were real. CK is maintaining they were never real. Frankly, that makes sense because most dresses, for example, use rhinestones and not real diamonds for decorative purposes.

The dress was stolen Wednesday. This is Saturday. He (CK) or someone from his company could have spoken up sooner. Perhaps they were enjoying the free publicity. Don’t know how they feel about the current discussions about the dress.
