Supposedly Al Pacino said that the producers asked him to be brief. To me, it seemed like they had extra time and Jimmy Kimmel was trying to stretch things out.
I can’t imagine that “be brief” could be construed by someone who has attended numerous Oscar ceremonies to mean, “Don’t bother to read the nominees … just announce the winner.” But I guess that in the future, all presenters will be cautioned to read the nominees before announcing the winner.
I expected a video with short clips from the ten nominated films before announcing the award. At the very least the nominees should all be mentioned. Seems unlikely that the Academy would omit this on purpose (especially after they spent time singling out the nominees for the acting awards.
I read an interesting article about this. I was shocked when Lily Gladstone didn’t win and so were others, because lots of reporting about it the next day. One line of reasoning was that with a larger contingent of international Oscar voters, Killers of the Flower Moon suffered, because the film didn’t resonate as much with them.
I felt bad for Emma Stone having a zipper malfunction. She seemed pretty distressed about it. Fortunately for her, it didn’t result in unwanted skin exposure. I’m sure it was very tight, meant to show her slim form, but you’d think a dress of that caliber would have been split-proof!
they had been showing clips of the nominated films throughout the evening, but they should have at least read the names once more. And then Pacino completely omitted “and thr Oscar goes to” or any sort of intro to the winner.
Same here! I thought they focused too much on Andrea Bocelli (I do like his singing, don’t get me wrong) and the dancers and too little on the actual people who passed away that they were supposed to be paying tribute to. I could barely see the screen where they were showing the names and images. I think they should just have music playing over a montage. Or have someone singing but don’t focus on the singer the whole time.
I saw Oppenheimer, Barbie, Poor Things, and the Zone of Interest. I liked Barbie and I am a bit disspointed it didn’t more awards. One Oscar is great, but I thought it would win in at least a few other categories like production design and maybe hair and makeup. I do think Barbie’s best song win was well-deserved. I thought Oppenheimer was very intersting but I also thought it was too long and at times hard to follow. I do think it’s wins were well deserved and I do think Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr both did a good job. While I feel that Emily did a good job in Oppenheimer, I’m glad she didnt’ win for best supporting actress, she really didn’t do a whole lot onscreen.
Poor Things was a little out there for me and to be honest I didn’t really like it. I do think it was well done, and I thought Emma Stone did a great job and definitely deserved her Oscar.
Zone of Interest was well done, but definitely a heavy topic and again, while it was very well done, I don’t feel the need to see it again.
I didn’t see Killers of the Flower Moon. H saw it and enjoyed it and he said that Lily Gladstone did a good job in it. He said he was surprised it came out of the Oscars empty handed, but oh well. I thought Lily Gladstone would win for Best actress, but at the same time, I was kind of thinking Emma Stone might end up winning.
Did anyone else enjoy seeing the dog who was in Anatomy of a Fall there? I loved how he had his own seat. And they made it look like he was clapping…
