Do I Have a chance?

pushymom, I’m assuming this post is for your son. If he gets his ACT up to the 31+ range, or takes the SAT and gets a score in the 1400+ range (m+cr), he’ll have a great chance. UVA, as you probably know, is much more competitive for out of state students than it is for those from Virginia; however, given that you’re from Mississippi, it may be somewhat easier than if he were from New Jersey. The admissions committee will like to see his strong academic background and diverse EC’s, but that ACT score, as it is now, will detract from his application. The 35 english is strong, but a composite score of 28 means that the other components were relatively weak. I’d recommend taking some practice tests, particularly of the math variety, and retaking the ACT a few more times. With a higher score, he will become a much, much more competitive applicant.
