Outside Scholarships

So I’ve gotten a few outside scholarships but all of them came in a check to me and not sent directly to Cornell. And I was wondering if I needed to tell Cornell about these scholarships. Because I’ve already transfered it into my bank account and was going to send the money through my account. But is it necessary to tell them that it’s scholarship money and not my money?

…//…bump…//…

If you did report it to Cornell, they would expect to have the money and apply the scholarship as “pending aid”. Now if you don’t plan on sending them any scholarship money that you may have, then don’t. It would first eliminate loans and not really be too useful if you want that money for buying school stuff.

“Thank you for your email. I would assume you will owe a similar amount for spring as you do for the fall. If you are receiving outside scholarships and they are not already included in “pending financial aid”, than yes you can include these as additional pending aid. Normally when a student receives outside scholarships, these are reported to Cornell and we place them on your account as pending aid until the outside scholarship check it processed through our office.”
Hopefully that helps - you’re welcome.
