outside scholarships

Let’s make a list with “outside” scholarships (for international students). This is certainly a very important topic for international people who don’t have free rides for college.

Let me start. I know about three scholarships.

One of them is offered my Microsoft: "Microsoft is committed to building the pipeline of future computer scientists. Our scholarships are designed to encourage students to pursue studies in computer science and related technical disciplines. Students from across the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be awarded scholarships in recognition of their passion for software, academic excellence, and ability to make a difference in the software industry. We offer ** four types of technical scholarships to current undergraduate students: General Scholarship, Women’s Scholarship, Underrepresented Minority Scholarship, and Scholarships for Students with Disabilities. ** " [Click here /url

Another scholarship is offered by the ** Canadian Bureau for International Education **. It is called “International Student of the Year Award”. It is valued at 1000CAD. Applicants have to write an essay about their experience in Canada: "CBIE invited international students to write a letter home telling family or friends what it’s like to study in Canada. College and university students who came to this country from across the globe offered their insights. The Award is named for Elizabeth (Liz) Paterson, who for 25 years served as Director of the International Student Centre at the University of Toronto, guiding and encouraging literally thousands of young people from diverse countries. Liz’s influence on the nascent world of international education extended across Canada through her mentoring of newcomers to the profession of international educator, her research and reports, and her service on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Bureau for International Education.
There is a scholarship offered by ** Computing Research Association ** : "CRA’s Outstanding Undergraduate Award program recognizes undergraduate students in US or Canadian universities/colleges who show outstanding research potential in an area of ** computing research **. ** Nominees must attend a university or college located in the United States or Canada **, and must be nominated by the department chair or a faculty member. Each department may nominate a total of two male and two female candidates. Preference is given to students in their senior year (or the equivalent). In addition to evidence of significant research contributions, the committee also considers the student’s academic record and service to the community.
