Overcoming Poor Grades ("Failure")

I recently started high school and have been an honors student throughout middle school. All of a sudden I have a second quarter grade of having failed (E) four classes and then then two Bs and a C. I suffered from an extremely cloudy head all semester and repeatedly fell asleep in many classes. Unfortunately this is not a medical problem but is more likely then not an air quality one since the moment I moved back upstairs the cloudy head is gone. Sadly, the grades remain and after finding out that it is physically not possible to retake a year while still being at school I am looking for solutions. Is it possible to retake courses and have them replace the old ones through homeschool? Is there anything at all that I can do? My parents are both extremely angry at me because the problem was a lot of schoolwork slipped off my radar, in part to the cloudy head and in part due to a mild depression I was suffering from, thus causing the bad grades. They are now dropping my course load and putting me in remedial classes the whole nine yards, which is infuriating because I am plenty intelligent enough for the hard classes and while I could have sought more help from my teachers or parents, the poor grades are not because I didn’t care.

To sum it all up:

  • Is it possible to retake a year through homeschooling (i.e. retake all the classes and start it all over)
  • Is it still possible (if in the event homeschooling is not possible) to even get into college (ideally a good one) with the grades I have if I show that I am a good student that gets high grades the four remaining years, get a good SAT score and write in my essay about the challenges faced, lessons learned, yada yada yada?

One more thing, this is my first post so if I am doing it totally wrong (like posting it in the wrong place or something) I apologize in advance

If you can improve and keep your performance there, colleges will take that into account.
Are you talking about the air giving you a cloudy head at home or at school?

Yikes! That sucks man. Regardless, you are only a freshman. You have 3-4 years to excel. Whatever your GPA is it is possible to raise it up. You won’t get a 4.0, but you still can get into a good college. Regarding the topic of getting into college, you are not definitely marked, you can get into some good schools. If you did something similar to what you described in your sophomore, junior, or senior year you would be pretty screwed. Try taking AP, or more advanced courses later on, without falling asleep to show colleges that you aren’t Mr. Sleepy.

Another thing, don’t lose confidence in yourself. Life is full of up’s and down’s… This was a big down. Just remember that you can get good grades if you work hard.

Regarding SAT’s and other exams: No one can determine how well you will do based off of a bad year of school. You may do great, or you may not.

Anyhow mate, take care!
