Overseas american students

Some questions regarding overeas american students…

Are overseas students holding american passports still considered international student? Afterall, american passport holders are considered american citizens aren’t they?

I myself am a chinese american student studying in an overseas high school. Would I be judged upon as an american student during the admissions processes? Would I be eligible for the financial aid that american students can receive?

Also, my school is an International school and classes are taught in English. Am I still required to sit TOEFL exams, etc?

1) Financial Aid - If you have an American passport, you are a citizen of the USA, and so, you will be eligible for all types of financial aid available to American citizens, including loans.

2) TOEFL - If the language of instruction in your school is English, you should be exempted from the TOEFL. And since you are an American citizen, you do not have to take the TOEFL.

3) International Student Status - I am not sure about this, and so you may want to ask the individual colleges. As far as I know, colleges like the Ivies group their applicants according to regions, and so even if you are an American citizen, you will be considered international in that sense, but this international status will not extend to your financial aid. Again, check with the colleges you are applying to.
