Does anybody know what it would take to get into oxford as an american student, and what they look at specifically? I’m familiar with the requirements on the website, but are those requirements to simply apply, or if you reach them you are accepted?
There is nothing specific to being an American (or any other nationality).
The score requirements on the website are the minimums to be offered a place- necessary, but not sufficient.
Oxford applications are like a series of levels- your test scores + your Personal Statement + Recommendation + written work (for many subjects) + admissions test (for most subjects) are all used to shortlist students to invite to interview.
At interview, tutors look for commitment to the subject, aptitude, and suitability for the tutorial format. Interviews (which are like a cross between a tutorial and an oral exam) is where the final decision is made about whether to make an offer, and under what conditions.
