Palm Springs hotels??

H and I want a 4 day weekend away from the grey in 4-5 weeks. Have been thinking of Palm Springs and wonder if CCer’s have any good hotels to offer. $ not necessarily an issue as we may call this our anniversary gift. I know this is late to be booking.
Needs are comfort, quiet, nice pools.
Thanks!

DH and I went to Palm Springs last year–tons and tons of houses to rent, and prices below the hotels. Got a small house with swimming pool for $200/night…

Other friends stayed at the Marriott, which is good location, very nice.

Personally, I like the LaQuinta Resort in La Quinta. (Not to be confused with the chain of motels.) I also like the Westin Rancho Mirage and the Hyatt Grand Champions. All have tennis and golf and nice pools.

thanks–will look into these suggestions. I really want some TLC and comfort. Too many sad and difficult things have happened in the last few months so this is to be part of our recovery. Comfortable beds and linens, nice pool, etc.

if I wanted TLC in the desert, I’d go to Las Vegas… Palm Springs is nice but Las Vegas has everything.

I am probably not as well qualified to make hotel recommendations in the desert as some others here, as I haven’t stayed in them. That said, I have gone to Palm Springs every year for many years, as my parents’ (who are now deceased) second home is there and I am now a part owner of it. So, I stay there. But I will put out a recommendation to you…

The Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa, which is located in Palm Desert, very close to my parents’ home. I have not stayed there, though I have been there, and I have eaten in the Japanese restaurant on site. I have driven by it countless times.

If you want a full scale resort, where you can relax and not even have to leave the site (though leaving is fun too), it has everything. It has a spa, two 18 hole championship golf courses, one of the most expansive swimming pools in the desert, several restaurants on site, a beautiful lobby area. Check it out.

PS, there is a waterway that goes right through the lobby. You can take a little boat on it to go to the Japanese restaurant. :D

Love, love, love Palm Springs! I’m also interested in the hotel recommendations. We have gone with kids and they picked the hotel strictly based on the pool (and we did need to consider $). We have been staying at the Saguaro. It is REALLY colorful and modern. This would usually be someplace we would never stay but when in need of time away from grey skies it is kind of refreshing. It is off the beaten path which means you have quite a walk into town or you can use one of the bikes provided by the hotel.

DH and I enjoyed the Miramonte Resort last year. Not too big and not too small. Great pool, bar and spa!

Another vote for the JW Marriott in Palm Desert. Lovely property with beautiful, open lobby , awesome pools and a nice Japanese steakhouse on the property. Guests who dine at the restaurant can get a boat ride to the restaurant from the lobby (of course, one can walk to the restaurant, but the boat ride is fun). Their disco bar was closed for renovations when we stayed there, but it supposed to open on New Year’s Eve. One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had in a fancy hotel, although pricey ($26).

I went to a convention at the Renaissance Esmerelda Resort in Indian Wells, CA near Palm Springs and it was absolutely lovely.

Money not an issue? Stay at the Viceroy.
We, like others, tend towards house rentals in PS. But if you want “the full treatment”, check out the Viceroy.

I am guessing that you might be looking for intimate since it is DH and you. Viceroy is very intimate but grounds are very small and it gets crowded with the wanna be “IT” crowd which makes the small pool area very crowded. There is a gorgeous fer private boutique hotel on the small hill behind the main area of Palm Springs town. Also the big Marriott has lots of amenities but could be crowded with kids and is not intimate.

There is a very old restaurant in a small hotel called Ingleside Inn (look it up for location). Melvyn’s that I would recommend for a romantic evening. Not the best food in town, just very old school with Career salad made tableside, etc. You might spy some famous people (old ones) and Irs not terribly expensive.

ceasar salad made tableside

Here are romantic suggestions:

The Willows -very private, very historic. Expensive

Korakie Pensione: affordable romantic

Miramonte

I would recommend Ingleside Inn also for historical elegance with private bungalows but I think the bungalows are outdated and need some sprucing up

We stayed in a wonderful 3br house with a pool 3 years ago. I would highly recommend Palm Spring Rental Agency. I picked them off the internet and they worked with me to find the perfect house for my budget. (I was specific on location, plus needed 3 bedroom with twin beds in one room, as kids were sharing, which is tough to find in Palm Springs. My mom had 3rd bedroom). They were also very accommodating to our 10pm+ arrival on Christmas evening 2010.

I accompanied H to a conference at the Renaissance Esmeralda in Indian Wells that was mentioned earlier in this thread. It was a beautiful resort and very relaxing.

Make sure the pools are heated and are of swimming depth, not like those ankle deep pools in Las Vegas

Thanks–checking all of your suggestions out. I really do not want to rent a house or apartment for this short trip, although have done so very successfully and loved it. I actually do not even want a kitchen as then I end up with cooking duty. Just want luxurious bedding, quiet and a nice pool.
You are all great to be so helpful.

oregon - A luxurious hotel sounds perfect for your trip.

For others that need a bigger place with kitchen, try flipkey. I used it for a Cape Cod home rental and was very happy. It looks like Palm Springs has many beautiful flipkey options… many with pools.

In general, the area of Palm Desert, Indian Wells and Rancho Mirage is nicer than Palm Springs proper. Better shopping and restaurants and the resorts are newer with golf courses, tennis and large pools. The Coachella Valley gets nicer the further east one goes until you hit Indio, then it’s downhill again.
