I’m not a fan of these parties, but I want to buy a few things to support my cousin. Does anyone have a favorite kitchen item? What about the pantry items? The foodstuff may make more sense for me as I really don’t think I need any cook/bakeware or gadgets…
Paging @twoinanddone as I saw an old post where you said you are a Pampered Chef super fan.
The Pampered Chef items I have from back in the day when everyone was having home parties: 9x13 stone bar pan, hand chopper, garlic press. I do like these and use them regularly. I definitely do not want the handheld can opener as my mom has one and I can never figure it out! lol
I use that little black covered pot that @abasket pictured all the time. I live alone and I most often find myself cooking a serving of peas in it or a half ear of frozen corn on the cob in the microwave. I have also loved my little cutting boards from them through the years; but, as I hear more about the dangers of plastic cutting boards, I think they are about to be trashed.
yep, I have that too. I always found it a bear to clean though.
I have to say that while I hated getting invited to participate in PC events, and most of them were YEARS ago, the stuff has lasted and I probably do use most of the stuff I purchased on a regular basis.
You guys have given me great ideas! I wasn’t aware of some of these products.
As someone mentioned, all of my Pampered Chef items are years old and have held up well so it makes the price justifiable. I think I’ll get the food chopper for my D for her first “real” apartment. And I’ll get the mixing bowl with handle for myself. I like the salad dressing suggestion as well but remember the one I currently use is a Pampered Chef product. It’s not attractive like the one suggested so must be an old version, but it’s perfectly functional so I can’t justify the new one.
ETA: What products would you get your kid for their first apartment/real job/post-college life?
Has anyone tried the microwave egg cooker? Some of the reviews make it sound like it is not as simple to use (exploding eggs all over the microwave? yuck!) as one would hope. Thinking of this as a quick breakfast option for my D, but it won’t be a good option if it is difficult to use and ends up causing messes.
Waste of money…it’s not very hard to microwave an egg in any microwave safe dish. It takes one minute to microwave a single scrambled egg. Actually, cooking eggs any way is pretty easy. I wouldn’t waste shelf or cabinet space with this item.
Thanks. I’ve actually never tried to microwave an egg, but I think I will now just to know how it turns out. I make batches of egg bites in muffin tins and heat those for quick bites in the morning, but I know my D probably won’t do batch cooking yet. When I visit next month I am batch cooking and freezing a bunch of meals for them… maybe that will give some inspiration. Wishful thinking…
FWIW my D said the best kitchen gift she got as a new cook was a slow cooker. I believe Pampered Chef has one called a “rock crock”. There are all kinds of sites and cookbooks with 5 ingredient crock pot recipes. My D liked having things she could cook once and then morph for the rest of the week.
