Parents' education?

In the AIM application, I noticed that they asked for the level of parents’ education (I think it was AIM–I don’t really know–I’m not doing these, dd is). What is the purpose of that? If the student’s parents have more education they are less likely to drop out? Most likely to stay in because they wold be the first one to graduate from college? I’ve often wondered about this! Any thoughts?

I think there is strong effort on behalf of the CGA to enable first generation college students the opportunity to attend the academy. I have seen that question on some of the applications to civilian colleges and on several of the scholarships I applied for. My parents asked the same question when I brought it to their attention.

HHHmmm…too bad for here, then! Ah well, CGA remains her first choice.

For civilian colleges, there is a federally sponsored scholarship available to first generation college students. I do not know the particulars, but I understand it is very generous. I do not know the significance for Service Academies, but perhaps it is part of their data gathering.

not much to worry about w/ the service academy tuition, considering, besides the initial 3000 dollars, every thing else is paid for.

the only money you will have to pay for the CGA is, a minimum of 300 dollars when accepting the appointment, and you must pay the remaining balance (initially 3000) by June 15th. However they also mention that they are not very strict with this, if there is financial difficulty in the family, they will work something out, all you have to do is call the admissiosn office.
