My 20-year old son is almost 6’4" with size 13 sneakers. When he was born the doctor yelled, “Big Baby!” He was the youngest in school so he didn’t shoot past everyone until age 15. The growth charts were accurate for him. My 5-year old grandson is taller than my son was at the same age.

Okay, so mine is 6’2" but only about 150 pounds. I want to know where everyone is shopping for clothes for tall slim young men.

Lakemom- Good question as our son is the same size. 34 inch inseam,32 inch waist and 35/36 sleeve. He wants clothes that fit well. A challenge. Somehow dress shirts are the hardest due to sleeve length and wish for a slim fit. Ideas are welcome. Thanks.

Yep. They grow 'em pretty big these days :)

S is 6’3" with size 13 shoes. I do think the feet grow first and then stall; there are some comical years where their feet seem almost as long as their shins. He is slim but has broad shoulders so a challenge to fit. J. Crew tailored fit shirts fit well and are often on sale at their outlet. Suits are
more difficult–Hugo Boss red label fits and looks fantastic but very pricey. D is 6’ and that is a whole 'nother story. She wrote her common app main essay about being tall.

I’ll have to look into J.Crew. My son had to interview for a school and I managed to find tall slim shirts at Men’s Warehouse. The smallest tall shirts are 16 collar but have 35/36 sleeve which was great. The shirts were on sale but still pricey.

Don’t count your chickens yet, OP. At age 12, I was 6’0" and weighed 115. My doctor predicted I’d top out at 6’7". At 55, I’m still 6’0", but considerably more than 115. I’d have been a beast of a 6’7" power forward! :(

When my kids were very young (say under six) they were in 90th percentile for height and 50th percentile for weight for the older one, more like 25th percentile for weight for the younger one. At the time the doctor said both might be over six feet which seemed ridiculous to me since no one on either side of the family is tall. As time went on they were still above average height, but not that noticeably so. They both however grew a lot in high school. The older one more gradually, while the younger one grew 8 inches in two years from ages 12 to 16. They were both over six feet before they graduated from high school. Neither has big feet though. The younger one is still pretty skinny, the older one more average.

As far as casual clothing for tall, slim boys - son (15) is 6’ and 120#, Target carries athletic fit tees, shirts and sweatshirts so can get him a large shirt (for length) that is pretty narrow. He’s fanatic about his shirts being long enough so if we do find something he likes I hang to dry so we don’t lose an inch.
Found skinny jeans which are not at all skinny on him at American Eagle (online), 29 x 34, also Gap carries 30 x 34 online only.
Since he needs a suit and tux for music performances, Macy’s has European cut suit separates so was able to get a 38L jacket and 30" waist pants which he keeps up with a belt because I’m not tailoring pants for a 15-year-old. If you watch their sales you can usually get 15-30% off. Same with his Tux jacket, look for a slim or Euro cut. Again the Euro cut might look slim cut on some but not on a thin kid.
Anyone else with good sources PLEASE post, this kid is making me crazy. Told him he’s not rich enough to be so picky.

I have a S that is 6’ and slim. I’m able to find pants that fit him online at Gap.com, Levi.com and Banana Republic.com. He used to be a 30 waist and 34 length, but thankfully jumped to a 31 or 32 waist at the beginning of his senior year so pants are a little easier to find now. I’m not sure if he’s still growing … seems to be using this year to fill out, and I’m wondering if he will fatten up a bit when he gets to college and has the all-you-can-eat meal plan … as a cross country runner for 4 years, I think he has been burning more calories than he can put in, so we’ll see what happens when he is not putting in the miles.

BTW, It’s fun for me to have a tall child … I am only 5 feet and 2.75 inches (I do round up on my driver’s license.) I do have some tall genes on my mother’s side, as she has a brother and dad that were over 6’5", but it seems to have skipped me, likely due to my father that is about 5’8".

My son is 6’ 2", 130 pounds, and wears 30 waist, 34 length pants. Kohl’s has jeans in his size that can be ordered online. Nike’s size small men’s track pants are just long enough because he wears them with tennis shoes and they sit a little low at the waist for him (athletic clothes can vary a lot in waist size and length). We ordered J. Crew khakis.

When the pediatrician told him at age 5 that he would probably be 6’1" or 6’2", he was very disappointed–because at the time he wanted to play basketball. Many, many boys would be happy to be that tall!

Both my boys are very long legged- DS 2 is 5’10" with 34 inseam. We struggle to find regular shorts and b-ball shorts that are fashionably long- cover the knees yet fit nicely in butt and waist. Golf shorts are impossible to find long enough. Any ideas on where to look?

My son is 14 is 6’6" and wears size 16 shoes…tough to shop for him

sjmartinie, you/he should look at Zappos. They go up to size 18 and you can shop entirely by size. My son just bought a tall down lightweight jacket from LL Bean he really likes.

My bros are 6’, 6’1" and 6’3". Their shoe sizes vary from size 9 to 13, all available at the shoe store. They are taller than dad, who is 5’9" and mom who is 5’4". One of the brothers has 4 kids. The older S is only 5’6" and age 23. The older D is about 5’9.5" and 21. The younger S is 6’ or taller and just turned 18–we figure he will grow more. The younger D is 16 and 5’4". Don’t know shoe sizes.

You can’t tell what’s going to happen. Ive seen kids go from being one of the two-three tallest 8th graders to graduating at about 5’11. I’ve also seen 5’7" freshmen end up as 6’4" at graduation. With a wingspan of 6’8".

It varies depending on the ultimate height that is programmed in, and the pattern of getting there varies somewhat as well, although usually tall kids are tall early…with a sizable minor it of exceptions to this.

There are all sorts of genetic variations among people. You just get your genetic blueprint out of a “grab bag” that came partly from your and partly from your dad. It has a bunch of stuff in there that no one knows much about. :)

In regard to clothes, my 6’5" and 6’6" tall, slim sons like LL Bean and Brooks Brothers. Charles Tyrwhitt( a British shirtmaker) is having a big sale-$39.95 for very nice shirts. My sons both like their shirts too. You need a code to get the sale. http:[Charles Tyrwhitt for Men’s Dress Shirts, Suits, Ties, Shoes & Accessories | CTShirts.com](http://www.ctshirts.com/FA03)

6’7" and slim son loves the more modern/slim fit tall dress slacks from Banana Republic. There is also an Old Navy slim fit jean that comes in a 32 x 38.

Lands End has a wrinkle free dress shirts that come in a 15 1/2 x 36 sleeve.

To the OP - son was a just little taller than most throughout elementary years. In 7th grade he was 5’2" with an 11 shoe. He had a huge growth spurt in 8th grade, added a couple more inches in 11th and 1" more in college, but holds at a size 12 shoe.

When my son got braces the orthodontist was able to predict his final height based on a hand x-ray. The growth plates in his hand predicted his height (very accurate).

Other than that as a predictor, my cousin always had “puppy feet” (a family joke). Everyone knew he would be tall. 6’ 4".

I love this thread. My S was always 95% height until middle school. Then he seemed to stop growing and his friends overtook him in height. He is young for grade and was WAY behind with puberty. We took him to an endocrinologist and had many tests. Fortunately, for S it was all just timing (could have been other things including a pituitary issue). S declined the offered shots that could have jump started his puberty. It was hard though - he went from Travel A in sports to Travel B/C and was teased about his high voice and lack of body hair. Now, 16, he is doing what his buddies did in 8th grade (growth spurts, acne, starting to shave). My point is that all kids grow differently. S is projected to be 6’3" based on bone plate info and currently has size 13 feet. 34" inseam on pants for now (Kohl’s and Levis.com).
