Thanx for the info on Dropps. I will definitely order those for d; she’s going to be squished in a triple and anything that saves space will be worth it as well as the convenience of not having to lug a jug of detergent around. What a nifty group of parents we have around here…Dropps, 3M hooks…all kinds of interesting stuff. The only specific request I’ve gotten is for a desk lamp that has an organizer on the base for pens, pencils, etc.

Hi parents! I was wondering, as my parents and I are CLUELESS (never set foot in bb & b before today) if bb & b allows us to “stack” coupons? Or no? It says it doesn’t on the coupon, but they seem pretty lax about coupon usage…I’m actually paying for most of my dorm stuff so coupons are lifesavers lol.

Also, how necessary are matress covers? Voice recorders (for lectures)?

darling if you think about the other people who have slept on that matress and what they may have done on it…the ick facor dictates that you cover it.

Vocie recorders are according you your learning style and note taking preference.

Historymom–Kanako, which is his first choice. I can’t figure out if the beds are XL or not and it is frustrating. No link to the room dimensions but I thought there was–somewhere.

Oregon 101 Keneko has an elevator!!! At least you will not have to schlepp up 4 flights of stairs on move in day.

historymom: yeah, that’s what i was thinking too. What about matress pads as well?

Hmm. I prob will never end up using a voice recorder or listening to it anyways. crosses off list

I’ve read good reviews of this new laundry product:

[Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets](Liquid Laundry Detergents - Long-Lasting Scents | Purex®)

I bought S a shower tote/organizer for $1.00; didn’t have the different compartments like the $9.99 one at BB&B, but he thought it was fine.

And he’s got a horizontal storage system here, too. Sigh…

I expect to have a chat at some point about his (probable) lack of contact with us once he gets to college.

I’d thought I’d get an eggcrate topper, but now am considering the memory foam thing that isn’t much more. And Kohl’s has a college dorm department? Hmmm…that is where S works, and he gets a 15% employee discount now.

Regarding towels, I read a good hint a few years ago. For boys, consider buying cheap large beach towels (end of season?), because they dry out quicker than thick towels. For those of us who have kids who might not hang them, this will ward off smell/mold/mildew problems.

Still nagging him to contact his roommate…

S1 is very dubious about the shower caddy, too, although D keeps telling him he truly will need it.

He’s definitely in the horizontal storage system camp. It’ll be very interesting to see if he follows the pattern D did. Once she got to school, she actually started keeping her dorm room neat and organized - she said she didn’t want to be embarrassed when people came over. Given that S1 happily entertains at home in his room, which is done in Early Tornado with accents of Plane Wreck, I’m not really expecting much to change.

So there’s hope? Older ds had a single room for 3 out of 4 years, so there was no “neat roommate” incentive to keep his room neat. (And now that he’s back at home, his room is stacked with stuff…)

Last summer S attended a one-month summer program, and he told me one time that he and his roommate got the “neatest room” award on their hall. I think it was because his roommate was so neat, and S felt like he had to be, too.

On the college roommate questionnaire, he put down that he “cleans room regularly.” ?! He only does it when I issue ultimatums. Since he shares the room with his younger brother, I don’ think it’s fair for him to take over the place with his stuff.

Just email someone in the residential life department and ask if the beds in Kanako are regular or XL. I’ve been emailing Son’s school with specific questions…I personally don’t care if they think I’m a pain in the rear. If enough people ask the question, maybe they will put the answer somewhere on their website.

Second shopping trip with Son-we actually bought a few things. I used my three BB&B coupons (I know, I’m a disgrace to CC by only having three) and only one was expired. I asked how many I could use and the lady said “all of them.”

I may be done shopping with Son unless he needs clothes. He is the worst shopper ever. When you combine ADD with extreme disinterest, you get a son who spends the time in search of the most impractical toss pillow ever (there are lots of beaded ones out this year.) I’m chasing him with sets of sheets (“which shade of blue do you like?”) and he is tossing toss pillows to me. Little Sis went with us and they talked me into Starbucks, so there went a third of the $ I saved with the BB&B coupons.

Oh, and after the excitement over the “over the door” organizing possiblities, I noticed that the closet doors in the dorm are sliding.

My DDs have shared a room their entire lives. It is decorated similarly to HMW’s S1’s room but the accents are more laundry bag explosion than plane wreck. The funny thing is that twinE claims that she is neat and that it is her sister’s fault their room looks like it does . It will be interesting to see what happens in the their dorm rooms.

I got another exciting bit of news yesterday…I am going back to Kohls for additional clothes shopping for twinK! Her style is a soccer related T with a pair of jeans or athletic shorts topped off with a soccer related sweats shirt. She told me last night she would like to dress cuter at college but that she wants to be comfortable. I don’t know how you get more comfortable than a pair of soccer shorts and a T but I am willing to rise to the challenge of helping her find an updated style. Any suggestions??

Missypie will the hook thing fit over the actual entrance door? Hate to see you disappointed.

In my compulsion to set up workable organizational systems for Son, I have to remember that school is only a three hours drive away…he’ll be back and forth and I assume, so will we. Once he’s moved in we can see what we’re missing and buy more things later.

Historymom…my soccer diva likes yoga pants and hoodies, jeans and layered shirts. We just got several fashionable bright colored Nike dri fit shirts at Nordstrom’s but I know Kohl’s carries Nike, too. She also has some darling Puma, Adidas and BCBG fitted warmups from Marshalls/TJ Maxx.

Does anybody know whether Dropps or Purex 3-in-1 get clothes clean?

We just got an email that B&B is having a big sale, including bamboo sheets (someone was looking for those, I think)

So many mattress pad options, hard to know what to do…

Today’s our day to shop. I think. It’s so hot, we may come home and do everything on line.

Zetesis, I just placed two online orders (free or low shipping and no sales tax) - a duvet cover from overstock.com and 3M hooks, etc and a hand vac from Amazon.com. Makes me feel better to have purchased this stuff!

With the laundry detergent be careful because some colleges have front loading washers and need high efficiency detergent. (If you use the regular detergent it overfoams by quite a bit).

The packages we ordered are starting to arrive. Having problems getting all the parts out to recycling fast enough.

Missypie, Overstock is great for some stuff. Have been a user of their’s for a long time.

Funny - I just ordered a Vornado and a bunch of command hooks from Amazon, too. Hooray for free shipping.

I wish I could use the BB&B coupons online, too.

So a question about the BB&B coupons, do you get the % for 1 item or do they combine the coupons for a total % off (based on how many coupons you have)?

For D:

Bought beach towels because she like the large sheet towels and got a great deal at Costco

Have been buying the 3M command hooks at of all places 99cent store - they had some velcro cable ties as well as the sticky tac stuff - they also have a big pack at Costco…

found a shower caddy at OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware) that is like the pop up hampers so mesh on the sides, and a drain at the bottom for under $4

Vaccum bags so that she can ‘potentially’ store more stuff…

3 in 1 laundry sheets - she thinks these are really cool (and to save more space I just bought the refill rather than the ‘box’)

She and her roommate (who she found on FB) are going to show up at orientation and everybody is going to think they’ve known each other for a long time! Based on what she’s told me, they are probably going to be great roommates, with a lot of similar interests! No class schedule until orientation in early Aug and no dorm assignment until late Aug…the wait continues!

Still looking for twin xl sheets. May head off to Kohls. I did sign up to receive coupons from BBB via email. Got one for 20% immediately. My S has lived in the smallest room in the house and so the horizontal system was always his way. It will feel like a mansion when he moves into his dorm room… even with a roommate. :D
