Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Brita–great idea! And, I’m going to have to get those 3/1 sheets too. Not sure what 3M hooks are; guess I’ll see them if I go to BB&B?

I can’t do it as I/S have not really started the shopping yet (plus it is an S not a D–7 years ago I was the dorm shopping queen for D)
BUT–should we have a “Master List” for the class of 2013 here?

Found sheets online at Walmart! Happy dance!!!

If you are still looking for XL sheets you can also try the Domesticatiions.com website.

Yes, Target has XL Twin Knit sheets, but you see they can’t be just any knit sheets. Her grandmother once gave her a set of modal knit sheets, and they have set the gold standard. BB&B has them. She just couldn’t decide what color. So we skipped them today …

But we did pass a forlorn mom with shopping cart, wandering around with a Twin Memory Foam mattress topper. She said – “I’m doing what you’re doing” (college shopping), “but I don’t know what I’m supposed to get. Will this work?”

She said her son wouldn’t think of going shopping …

Should have sent her here to commiserate.

Hee! Zetesis I see lots of moms & daughters or just daughters (carrying comforter packs, etc.) and I know exactly what they are doing! It’s cute! Have hardly seen any sons…maybe a few, but they looked as uncomfortable as mine.

I was wondering: If I get a matress cover, do i still need to get a memory foam matress pad? My mum was concerned they might get too hot, etc.

Live in an area that has several of the busiest Target stores in the country…couldn’t believe they were sold oud of the XL sheets. I bet I would have found them if I headed out of town but I was so tired of driving around!

NorthMinn: No more driving, shop online! found XL twin sheets on target.com and overstock.com both also PBteen has them as well. Didn’t buy any though. My SIL and MIL are planning to take the girls to BBandB so I’ll fill the gaps after that trip.

darling–actually the memory foam matress pads do sleep warm. We have them on every bed and so are use to this factor. The 2" is minimal for comfort and 3" is fabulous. But you have made me wonder if the eggcrates sleep as warm—? Anyone?

^ I’m a little bit confused by your post… they do get too warm? I’m going to school in Cali so I’m worried about them getting TOO warm (hence my mum saying them unnecessary?) but i guess i could always take it off if it gets too warm XD

missypie - which vornado did you order?

I actually ordered the Shark SV736 mini-vacuum…I read a couple of on-line reviews and it reviewed well and once I found it on amazon.com, I wanted to be done with it.

What are you all doing with the ever growing stack of dorm supplies? Hiding them away so you can try to forget? Or keeping them in plain sight so the whole family can have a constant reminder of the pending departure?

Or putting off shopping as long as possible so there are NO visible reminders of the impending departure? :D

Dorm supplies have taken over the front hall closet and the area in front of the front door and the dining room and the den and…

We compromise. The supplies are taking over a corner of the dining room, which is a room we don’t use much in the summer. So the stuff is in one place - which can be helpful, as far as keeping an eye on what will fit in the car - but we don’t have to look at it / think about it all the time.

With S1, I think the size of the pile will actually be predictive of what will go in the car. With D, of course, the size of the pile turned out to provide nothing in the way of helpful information, since the clothes and shoes were the last thing to get ready, and ended up comprising a pile even bigger than everything else she’d already assembled.

On the other hand, S1 did just let slip that he’s “thinking about” taking one of the beanbag chairs with him. This will complicate the cargo Tetris game, but at least it’s soft.

Dorm supplies are in daughter’s room and in the mudroom. I think I’m taking a chance keeping some of it in her room considering how things manage to get lost in there.

My son is away working for the summer at a camp and when he gets home we have only 5 days–of which 3 he is attending Lollapalooza. So I am shopping for what I like (and taking into consideration his tastes/requests) and keeping the receipts in the bags and he will shop my collection when he returns home–he does NOT want to spend his limited time home shopping. His only specifications are that he wants a really really comfy bed, neutral colors but not brown or beige, and solids not patterns.

I put an obscene amount on the pack-and-hold with BB&B near his school so he would have choices without everything already being sold out (it’s fun to get the feeling of shopping with abandon without actually spending any money!).

I’ve also hit some good clothing sales, stockpilling some jeans/shirts/shoes etc for him to go through. And i’ve stockpiled boxers/tshirts/ socks. Never enough of these for any of my jock sons. Enough for2 weeks plus for laundry purposes if the stink doesn’t overcome him before then.

boysx3, you’re making me think I should be stockpiling more jeans for S1. And I agree about pack-and-hold: It’s like shopping on someone else’s dime, sort of.

Jolynne, will your 2020 be going along for move-in? I’m still enjoying your story about the pillow your S bought her.
