Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Happy Birthday to RM D!!! :)

uh oh…just sent a text to H that was supposed to go to my BFF. Of course it was about my disappointment over something H was supposed to do and didn’t. Guess I will be in the doghouse now! Yikes!

Where is the “undo” or 'cancel send" command when you need it? Any chance H will see this as … funny? Yikes!

NorthMinnesota-- hope it all works out and I have had similar happen to me from my W and I actually enjoyed making her walk on eggshells not knowing if I had seen it or not until I couldnt hold back anymore and had a good laugh at her expense. Not nice I know but it was fun
It has been an extremely fast 4 years and where the time went I dont know. We have been extremely fortunate that our D lives far enough away and in another country to be fully independent but also close enough that we have not missed a concert yet. Someone mentioned the stress of a career that is based on auditions and I must say I think it is harder on us as parents right now than it is on her. We are set in our ways and really like the stability we have but she is able to roll with the punches, get up try the next one. We have really mixed feelings about where sahe wants to go for Grad school but we will have to see.

Not really worried that H will be upset…just stated facts. And he is the one that will walk on eggshells. ;)

Happy 22nd to RM D!

I just registered younger D for her first college visit. It’s not a school that she is terribly excited about, but it has a program in the major in which she thinks she is interested. Before we go all over the country looking at schools with a specific major, I would like her to talk to someone about the major/field to get more information.

NM, I’ve gotten a few texts like that from the children…fortunately none of them were complaining about me, though! I always text back - “don’t think this was meant for me” - and nothing more is ever said.

TA, sounds like very positive developments for S2. S1 sounds like a real Renaissance man; my brain feels too old and tired to even attempt that kind of reading. Who am I kidding? Even when I was younger, my brain was too old and tired for that kind of reading!

I’m sitting looking over a lagoon one block from the beach in Florida with ibises, herrons, turtles and an alligator. Just had one call with a defense contractor client who is very nervous about costs in light of sequestration and a client in Brazil. Had a bike ride this morning. 80 degree temps are not hard to take.

TA, good news for S2 and as always S1 impressive.

During younger D’s first middle school basketball game, I texted older D that she had no idea what she was doing, and that she looked like a colt galloping around. Of course, I misdirected the text and galloping younger D received it.

So shaw… do you have salt for the wound you’ve inflicted?

And I agree,… as always Analyst’s S1 is impressive (as I am sure S2 is as well) but I have to admit I love the international intrigue of the eldest. Jumping out of helicopters? not so much. :)

OK… sent email to stager and real estate agent… the latter of whom called immediately to restore confidence. I feel much better in having explained in full detail that I can be a *****, I just don’t prefer to be one. Your move. Or I’ll start over.

Have to pack. While I didn’t expect trade winds this weekend, I did not expect a typical normal in the range of high 50’s to now have a forecast in the mid 30’s!! I can walk outside for that. Still it will be nice to see D… even from a distance. I think. Her moods can often be compared to a crap shoot.

I confess to dozing off a couple of times during both Obama’s and Rubio’s talks. Rubio is smooth, but I fear the Republicans learned the wrong lesson from the election. They think that the problem was the messenger and not the message. If we are warm and fuzzy like Ronny or W, people will elect us. I fear that the message the electorate in swing states got was: We don’t like blacks, we don’t like poor people, we don’t like immigrants, we don’t like women, we don’t like gays, we’ll gut Social Security (although in reality that wouldn’t be for 20 years), … . We’ll try to make it hard for people we don’t like to vote. Whether that was the message or just what people heard (I think that was actually the message but it doesn’t matter), that does create a real problem. The groups that heard the message are growing. The leftover folks – angry white men and some subset of the women attached to them – are shrinking as a percentage of the population. So, old wine in new bottles probably isn’t going to fool anyone. Rubio is their hope to persuade immigrants, but he seemed so disingenuous to me, caricaturing Obama’s positions and then criticizing Obama for things Obama did not actually say. Did he strike you as disingenuous or is that just the Northeast moderate in me?

Lost a post this afternoon. Was wishing RM’s D a Happy Birthday.

Hi college1. This is a good group here. Like you I also have a HS junior so am going through the admissions process again. I much prefer this group over the HS Class of 2014 group.

Analyst I am impressed that your S1 is interested in reading the classics. I read a lot but alternate between reasonably intellectual and pure brain candy. OK, maybe more of the latter. Zetesis I didn’t like the Paris Wife that much either.

I am hoping one of our kids invents the thing that makes it possible to rescind a text. I’ll buy.

Found a cordless phone in the crisper drawer of the fridge today. S never uses the house phone and H swears it wasn’t him. Should I be worried?

FallGirl…too funny! I needed that laugh! :)

Haven’t received any communication from H today so he must not be amused by my faux pas. Oh, well…I will apologize but in reality I was being truthful in sharing his inability to learn from past mistakes…four years worth. I may even let him know that I actually feel better sharing my disappointment rather than hiding it in silence. Wonder how that will go over? So…here’s to celebrating 41 Valentine’s Days together! ;)

FallGirl - The “blame” around here has definitely lost it’s suspects since it’s only H and I. But a crispy fresh phone is better than a wet soggy one dropped in the snow.

Missy - laughed aloud again at your texting wrong kid. Too funny, probs not to her though!

Shaw - I am going to agree with you on Rubio. My favorite headline of the week was a Daily beast (I think) article that said, “GOP promises they’re not stupid” But I think they believe the rest of us are. I don’t disagree with SOME things, but I do disagree with the vitriol of all of it. Pres talks, media reads between the lines, the GOP response is to read from a different page and the end result is everyone throws their hands up and kicks the can down the road. Ugh! Mostly H&I complain that we have 1% percent problems without the paycheck to solve even 1% of them. :)

Moda…are you following the story about the Farmington HS hockey goalie?

Folks, this is important. Change your password for CC.
