Woody, that is wonderful! Congratulations to WoodyD! And to her parents as well!

Great news, woody! Congratulations to your daughter!

woody, congrats to your D. So will she be living and working in NYC?

Woohoo for woody D! Congrats to her and how wonderful she will be close to you! So exciting to hear about all of the new careers being launched!

Great news, Woody!

Moda – I’m tired just reading about what you’re doing.

Is Cardinal Fang MIA?

Yeah Woody D! Super.

S and family will be here for a few days this weekend. I have a thought that unless we insist they will not be with us on major holiday (Ie Easter is coming up). If I am honest I really do not care but it feels odd to not weigh in on this. Thoughts?

Have been following Mod and everyone’s adventures and enjoy all of you so much!

New neighbors of the 60 foot house look about 35 years old. H and I have discussed that we should welcome them but it would seem that our values are so different we do not know how to say “Welcome” “gee you wrecked our view and our neighbor can only see the side of your house now” “We just do not understand why you need a 5,000 square foot house and we would like you to know that it is not politicaly correct in this neck of the woods.”
Maybe we will be quiet. However, I had a great passive aggressive time last night–they were in their dining room looking out and I turned on our lights in the bedroom and fluffed pillows. She looked shocked and backed away and then peeked in. My hope is she will put good covering on her windows and some new trees (so that we not have to).

S and DIL and Baby who is now 1 will be here and H is thrilled. I am something else as I think about how dirty the floors will be…

Oregon, fluffing your pillows stark naked might help that program along I’d have some fun with the twits!

Missy, thanks for those wonderful suggestions!

Woody – woot for your d! The universe rewards saints after all it would appear!

Shaw, would a two-week extension cover Shawson? What an awesome plan b Chicago is, so congrats!

So we appear to have had a 3 minute power outage overnight. Just enough to put the hottub into Econ mode and drop it from 104 to 91 ;(
Also enough for some reason to trigger my fountain/gazebo thingy lights, which are on a battery operated remote. Can’t quite work out how THAT happened. My crockpot also came to life, flashing a little light. The cylons are coming!

That’s what I get for reading semi-sci-fi before bed and watching a Phillip K Dick special :)

(Am reading The Age of Miracles right now by a new author. The premise is captivating…the world literally slows down its turning…)

kmc - your first sentence is my laugh of the day!

oregon - I think you are totally within bounds asking if your S and his family spend at least one major holiday with you (I am assuming that they don’t live really far away).

I am happy to announce that D has a job! She is currently working an internship (part time) in her field, but will begin a full time position in 2 weeks. The new job is exactly what she wants to do and she is beyond excited. It is not at the place where she is interning, but when she told them she was leaving and why they were very gracious and happy for her.
She is coming home on her days off this week as soon she will not have the time off that she has been used to.

Congrats on the employment good news to the D’s of TheAnalyst and FallGirl! I hope it’s contagious!

Thanks everyone and congrats to Shaw S and Fallgirl.

D will probably stay here with us for a while to see how it shakes out…and quite frankly she is still pursuing other firms to see what’s out there. NYC is definitely in her plans though. many of her friends from both HS and college will be there.

CQ - Did D take off for the mideast yet??

Fall Girl and Woody congrats on the Ds jobs. How wonderful!

Moda I read your post yesterday and it made me too tired to respond and that was just reading it! I can’t imagine DOING all that in that span of time!

Not much going on here. Finally unpacked and got the laundry done. Getting ready to go see the crabby MIL this weekend. Makes me want the week to go SLOWLY!

Congrats to FallGirl D! Yay! So exciting for her.

kmc…have also read The Age of Miracles.

Heading to the cabin today. It is only 5 degrees here and there is no heat on site. I am hoping the roads have been plowed. Brrrr.

FallGirl, wonderful news on your D’s permanent job offer. That is fantastic.

Congrats to all the recently employed offspring! I don’t think I’ll have any kind of announcement like that for a while. I really expected the prospect of living at home, in Ohio no less, after 4 years in Boston would’ve lit a fire under D, but she is still very much focused on her college life and extracurriculars. Ah well. She’ll find something, eventually. And we’ve been clear about how long we’ll support her before she has to either be employed or move home. She’ll be home on Friday for spring break/Passover - talking about all this face to face will be much easier.

oregon - nice work on the pillow fluffing ;). Re: S and his family spending at least one major holiday with you - even though you don’t care now, you may sometime down the road, when the baby is older or there are more kids. Better to stake your claim now, I would think.

On Friday D2 had a meeting for her grad program. The meeting was 90 minutes and D2 said 60 minutes were spent discussing program dress code/rules. The program representative pointed to several young men and told them their facial hair had to be totally removed by the first day of classes. Some of the rules were:
Men had to shave every day, no shaved head or buzz cut hair style.
Business casual dress attire for class unless there were guest speakers and then formal suits were required. Suits required anytime class members leave campus.
If women wore open toe shoes the back had to be closed and vice a versa.
After labor day suits had to be charcoal, black or navy . Light colored could be worn in the summer.
Pantyhose must be worn if wearing a dress or skirt
No sleeveless tops under jackets for women.

There were more rules but I forget all of them! One of her classes will be professional development which will cover etiquette, professional dressing, etc. Should be interesting to hear her take on the class.

Congrats on the jobs!!!

Oh my goodness! I guess it’s excellent training, by my my…I am violating at least two rules right now.

Echoing all the congrats to all the recently employed offspring!

Oregon, maybe you should send your new neighbors a copy of the movie “Friends with money” (I think that was the one), where one of the couples in the movie suddenly discovers their neighbors are increasingly distant and hostile … because their second story addition/remodel has blocked everyone else’s view. . . . .

NM – Wow, and that’s for the program itself?

Thinking of my own daughters – I’ll bet neither of them owns a pair of pantyhose; or a suit…

D2 has never worn pantyhose either. She has tons of business casual due to her current job. D2 said another young woman was scolded for not sitting up straight during the meeting. D2 said it was like having a mean mom in the room. ;)

Off to the lake!

I think it is helpful to have all of the rules clearly spelled out rather than leave the kids guessing or managers frustrated by people showing up in unacceptable attire and thinking they know better when they don’t.
