Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Missy - that is a wonderful thing you are doing and no matter what your house looks like - and I am sure it is fabulous - you will never regret hosting the party. And oregon, I love your tips for entertaining!

NM- congrats to your d! I can’t imagine when my kids will be doing that!

CBB - best wishes for a good report.

We’re working on some updates here as well in prep for selling. I can’t wait but H has some misgivings.

Met up with some HS buddies in NYC for the past few days. Saw The Heidi Chronicles - I thought it was dated and too personal for any relevance. We also went to the Neue Gallery and saw Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer - the inspiration for the new Helen Mirren movie. Stunning! c_q… if have a chance, go see it! (What a beautiful evening for the ballet gala!)

Today will meet up with sisters to see An American in Paris - can’t wait!
In other news, S is interviewing all over the place and D’s BF is leaving for the Mideast for 4 months…ugh.

just dropping in – love reading about everyone’s adventures.
In Bologna now on our first ever tour. 10 nights with only 7 others and 2 leaders.
Kill me now and put me out of my misery. H is happy. I knew it was risky as I tire of people easily, and hate feeling held hostage. This was our first day and was 14 hours long, no food for a 7-8 hour stretch and worst of all BAD wine!!!
Tomorrow H is going to tell his first white lie. I made him practice many times.
Seems I get migraines when I travel.
I will be sleeping late, eating, buying good wine for our room, reading, walking and feeling thrilled that I have taken care of myself. H will go on the planned trip to a winery and Parma. A 10 hour day.

Wondering about the frequency of my migraines…

There is one “cutie” with her older man… Seriously a stereotype. They have turned out to be lovely and fun.
From Abiline, TX. Again, our favorites and who would have guessed.

I have forgotten. What is woody S Interviewing for?.

Bologna is supposed to have the best food in Italy bit we didn’t find it. We had a sensational meal at a restaurant in Padova called Sant-Agnese.

We are snot to stay a 6 hour flight to SF and there is a yapping "service"dog a few rows back.

Oh my, hope the flight is not too bad, shawbridge… Have fun in SF!

oregon, hope you have a wonderful time in Italy! My next trip is to Cape May so my travels pale in comparison!

The dog is quiet. Drugs?

D always drugs her dog to travel Shaw. Her dog did excape out of her carrier once by jumping through the top
Where there is an opening for feeding/petting. Caught quickly enough and never again.
I suspect in a few years there will be tighter regulations as there are too many animals on board in my opinion.
D typically pays $100 per flight.

I am happily having coffee in the breakfast room by myself. Just talked with H and he cued that I made the right choice which is worrisome.

The christianing dress sounds beautiful!

I am determined to have either a stone or cement floor if we ever get to build or remodel again. We would love to have them heated. Also a metal roof.

oregon - Didn’t know it was possible to get bad wine in Italy! You definitely made the right choice by taking a day for yourself. Re: floors & roofs - in the 1st round of plans for the beach house we had radiant heat in the floors. It ended up being too much $$ due to the logistics of hardwood floors (except the entry) + radiant heat + A/C ductwork. The architect wanted to put in cement floors with radiant heat, which would have been less expensive/easier logistically, but I nixed that idea. We do have a metal roof, though, which is great. There should be no issues/repairs/maintenance required, at least during our lifetime!

We’re at the beach for the next week. H scraped the right front fender of my SUV moving boats around yesterday – I am NOT happy. He says he’ll try to buff it out; it will “cost too much” to get fixed. We’ll see – if it doesn’t buff out, I’m getting it fixed anyway. (He’d already be at the shop if it had been his car.) So, H will be out in the shed with the boat for the next several days. I have lots of spring cleaning – unfortunately the central vac is broken. I’m hoping the repair guy is coming Wednesday. Someplace I have a regular vac, but I’m not sure where all the pieces/accessories are. Oh well, there’s always a broom!

An American in Paris got a really good review in the NY Times. Have s great time
I heart Wilsonart. They made out counters, which are “new” meaning 15 years old instead of 30. Wilsonart is based in Temple texas. The home of the founders is thought to be a mid century showplace. Many different laminate surfaces. But tours are by appointment only, very limited hours during the week. Some day.
Oregon i adore your white lie ! Good for you!!! Hope you don’t need to have any more migraines however

Made the trip to twoTargets this morning with some girl friends for the Lily Pulitzer launch. Crazy! Stores were picked clean in 10 minutes! Website crashed early this morning and all items sold out within an hour!!! I got my flip flops, toiletry bag, phone case and beach tote. Also picked up a cute shift dress for D1 and a jumpsuit, shorts and a top for D2. A friend of mine who reps glassware to Target gave me darling barware and appetizer plates that were her samples. I just can’t believe that everything is sold out!

So that’s why Target was so crowded this morning!

condolences Fallgirl
Finished my stats class with a group project from hell. Just done!
Saw Shaw D the other day she is so sweet
D2 is going to South Africa for 6 months. I am trying to finagle time off to see her.
Our christening dress was made. it has the initials of the girls on the under garment, embroidered. I wanted something that would be passed down. It is eyelet.
In two weeks or so I will be in Florence.
Mp my house is such a mess no one better stop by, but don’t worry.

Thanks, dte. I was just thinking of you and wondering how your class was going.
enjoy Florence, i hope you get to South Africa while your D is there.

I bought a christening gown for D. and was hoping that my MIL would have h’s christening outfit for S. She did, but S was so big he did not fit into it. Would love to have had a beautiful homemade outfit to pass down.

I have D’s baptism dress. My parents were living in the Philippines when she was born and I have a white smocked cotton dress. When S was baptized it was January in upstate NY and I borrowed a warmer outfit from a friend. It was beautiful but not diaper-friendly. I borrowed all of S’s baby clothes from this friend. Her in-laws were divorced millionaires and she was one of 8 children, so had lots of gifts. In fact I had 3 baby boy baptism outfits to choose from (all gifts she had received). Five “Baby’s first Christmas” outfits. S went months without repeating an outfit.

Back in town after a week in California. After seeing the drought effects there, nice to come back to a bit of rain, though I do miss the warm weather.

I love the way the Wilsonart oiled soapstone looks. I think we’re about the only ones I know who haven’t put some kind of stone in the kitchen. We’ve got our old Formica, but replacing it isn’t super high on the list.

Oregon – I’d be fine just declaring that I’m going to stop and just relax and enjoy Italy for a while. It is your vacation, and I don’t see why you can’t do it the way you want.

American in Paris got weirdly mixed reviews – ecstatic and meh. I’ll be curious to see how it pans out. I read the review because the male lead (Robert Fairchild) was featured in a NY Times story about his wedding to fellow dancer Tiler Peck, and my, don’t those two bring the pretty. The wedding location and decoration was also just plain gorgeous, and the cast of attendees name-droppingly amazing: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/29/fashion/weddings/and-sometimes-they-dance.html

And now, back to cleaning, carrots, and filing.

An American in Paris was absolutely breathtaking. I can’t recommend it enough - the sets were fascinating, the costumes gorgeous but it was the choreography itself and the talent of the dancers that just floored me.
The choreographer is from American Ballet Theater and most of the principal dancers are from NYC Ballet. I can only describe it as contemporary ballet - very athletic yet graceful and sensuous. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
The female lead was channeling Leslie Caron in a big way! And one of the male leads, max Von Essen is the son of the NYC Fire Chief during 9-11.
ararab- thanks so much for the link!

Shaw not sure but I think if Shaw D wants to work in a hospital, perhaps experience in a hospital would matter but if she wants to work in a clinic or practice it wont. however some nurses decide they want to not practice with their NP due to family issues, (less hours etc…) and then having hospital experience would be helpful

Good morning. If nothing else, having guests over tomorrow night has made us do “spring cleaning” that probably would have been skipped…the couch slipcovers have been washed, the fireplace cleaned out, etc. The weather forecast is making me think we won’t be enjoying the patio but so it goes. We have everything looking lovely back there, so we will be able to enjoy it later, even if our guests can’t enjoy it tomorrow.

You folks who entertain all the time (e.g. NM, Shaw [or at least ShawWife]) must think I’m silly for making such a big deal over having 20 people over. I am trying to make some sort of a breakthrough…keeping things simple, trying not to stress, out, trying to tell myself that the experience will be worth the time and money.

I don’t like going to parties let alone have one. so I would be stressed but it will be lovely for sure.

Good luck, MP. I’m sure all will have a great time.
