Good point. It doesn’t need to be for credit, so community Ed classes would be just as good.
cq – I’d have teared up, too. A Rocky Mountain News reporter won a Pulitzer prize for Final Salute, which tells the stories of a Marine officer who notified families of service deaths. The accompanying pictures still make my throat close; they were reprinted on the NY Times website: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/06/04/books/20080605SALUTESLIDESHOWindex.html
Sorry, I meant to specifically link to the picture of the plane: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/06/04/books/20080605_SALUTE_SLIDESHOW_index-3.html
Thanks for the photo link - yes, we were like those people in the photo. It was a very memorable experience.
With a son in the Air Force, I couldn’t get past the first couple photos without tearing up. I try not to dwell on the fact that he’s in the military – I’m constantly telling myself he “has a job in NJ.” I have no idea what his future may bring or where in the world he may be sent. He may never be in harm’s way, but then again, he may. The reality is I’m proud of him and scared for him at the same time. Have I said how much I like the fact that he’s in NJ?
CBB, I can imagine!
What a week. TGIF and all that.
Mcson and mch worked all night on a sensitive and problematic launch with unexpected consequences. Because I’d been up since three a.m. yesterday to organize a large biz function (went well), they’d sent me to bed around midnight since they felt i was teetering on incoherence
I am now second shift!
It will be an interesting day with some cranky coworkers around.
I am looking forward to sweatlodge tomorrow and then some down time!
I’m now trying to get home from New Mexico. Flight this morning was delayed and eventually canceled due to mechanical problems. I am re-routed but won’t get home until tomorrow morning. I’m leaving tomorrow evening for our two week vacation in France and Germany. So I won’t have a lot of time to do laundry and pack. And I’ll have two nights in a row sleeping on an airplane instead of a bed.
I really hope my re-routed flights go smoothly. I’m running out of cushion time!
yikes! good thought sent your way. Try and get your legs up–that is a lot of airplane time!
Once you land in Europe you will forgot this nightmare.
Oh c_q, Also sending good thoughts your way! Let us know that you got back okay and are off to Europe! Have a wonderful time.
S2 is coming home any minute from DC (his idea) for his dad’s milestone birthday. Very glad . S1 is at a friend’s wedding so could not come along. But we will do some things together- maybe go see Mad Max, go out to lunch for H’s birthday at a nice place on the water. Nothing that exciting but I appreciate he thought to come home (and he said it was to celebrate Mother’s Day a little late too so I am happy).
C_Q – hope you make it home ok. Can your husband do some of the laundry for your trip, or is it traveling with you now?
Sevmom – how lovely. I hope you have a great time with him.
Hope things get better travel wise c_q and that you get some rest to enjoy France and Germany.
Sevmom- enjoy the time with your S and Happy Birthaday to your H.
c_q – I echo the wishes of others!
I’m in Salt Lake City awaiting the red eye. Beautiful views of snow capped mountains. The laundry I need to do is with me. As long as there are no major delays I should be good. There was a talkative woman with an annoying voice sitting behind me the last flight. Thankfully she lives here and won’t be on my next flight.
Sending good travel thoughts your way!
Arrived home around 7 am. Started laundry and took a little nap. Am up now finishing laundry. Even have a few hours to spare! Not that I’d recommend this schedule to anyone.
Glad you made it c_q.
Safe travels, c_q.
Well cq, I bet you are sleeping well on the plane!
In Amsterdam now - I did sleep pretty well. H didn’t sleep at all. Awaiting flight to France.
I love Schiphol airport. Paris or points south, c_q?
Got the funniest call from D this morning. Nice day in NYC, and she ventured out to Staten Island for her first ferry ride. Called me after walking 20 minutes into a residential area outside the ferry port and said, “Where is downtown? I can’t find it.” Well, apparently what there is of downtown St. George is not much open on Sundays. So much for the theory that NYC never sleeps. Nonetheless, a nice trip and some cool pics.
I’m heading out to Reno tonight for a conference. H reminded me not to gamble away our life savings (joke – I am most seriously not a gambler) so I might just have to put a quarter into a machine and see if I win some big jackpot. I’d forgotten about gambling in Nevada, and I’ve not been to Reno since I was a little kid. Should be fun.
