I have no help to offer! H has been trying all day to get our computer to stop suddenly freezing suddenly.
I wonder if calling a Geek might help. Also, start a new post in the Parent’s forum. Someone might have some ideas to
correct the situation.
Shaw, hope you can sleep on your planes.
Bent over to pick something up and have been in pain since. My hips completely ache. It is gorgeous out so I have gone walking anyway but it is not fun.
Trying to catch up with friends–I go underground when it is grey out.
Two other options that can interface right w/ your device are to pay for googe drive (monthly fee) or Dropbox. That will give your o/s some room. I personally would do both te drive backup of images AND a cloud based service. Drives can fail (though I use this one) but I’ve also seen google drive have hiccups.
I use box.com (the enterprise version for cloud backup), a hard drive (and time machine for HD-based backup) and something called backupify which is email backup.
I fear that, to me, tech advice sounds like the adults in the Charlie Brown specials. But I admire those of you who understand such things!
While I was visiting my mother, I ordered her a walker from Amazon (their best seller). I had pressed her for months (years, probably) to buy one. She didn’t want one, thought it would make her look old (she’s 82 - she looks old!), didn’t think one would work on her carpeting, etc etc etc etc. She didn’t like that I finally ordered her one. Yesterday when I called, the first words out of her mouth were “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” She really likes it. She also says it’s so nice that it’s like having a luxury car, compared to her neighbor’s walker.
Good Morning!
missy…Glad that she likes her walker and is up and about! I bet it will help her feel better.
H will be starting a new job in two weeks! So much change around here. He had worked for the same organization for almost 25 years! He is excited about trying something new at this stage of his career and I think this new challenge has rejuvenated his outlook on working instead of retiring. I also think this position will be less stressful for him and an opportunity to utilize his area of expertise in a new and different way. Healthcare and the way it is delivered has really changed over the past few years. Hoping you can teach an old dog new tricks!
I always worry about D2 during the busy tax season. She is working very hard and doesn’t take time to eat enough. Her firm provides food but of course it isn’t the healthy food she likes. She is also busy starting a little blog about her home remodel. Yesterday she posted pictures of her new kitchen. Now I want a new kitchen! If you want to see what she has been up to go to homeMNprovement dot com. I don’t know where she and her H get all of their energy.
H and I have been assessing whether we want to stay in our house until we can’t. I always thought we would but now thinking of downsizing just a little bit. We have been updating things by painting rooms and getting rid of outdated decor, fixtures and changing out old electrical switches that have yellowed. I have even ripped down all of my old custom drapery and blinds. Now I have to start putting things back together. Ugh…
D1’s birthday was yesterday. She celebrated in Charlotte where she was working. She will be glad to be home this weekend.
Heading to the lake this evening for a few days. It will be very quiet so I expect to catch up on some new books and podcasts. Happy Friday to All!
^gorgeous hijinks from that daughter of yours, NM I’m jealous…my kiddos living spaces look more like something one part Dali, one part space carnival and smattering of musician…then again what did I expect. In hs his door had a big caution sign posted on it “Don’t feed the creatives”
Crazy volume of work this week trying to clear the deck for the blues cruise next week. Getting ready for vacation has necessitated the vacation, as usual!
NM, I am beyond envious of your D’s house AND their DIY ability. And best of luck to your H. The last few days I have had multiple conversations with some of my law partners who are my age, wondering what else we can do for a living. The legal profession has changed so much since we got out of school and there are no rewards for seniority.
Older D is living through her first “busy season.” She is working for a client who uses antiquated software. I guess she is paying her dues because a couple of people have told her that they have worked for that client in the past and that they are never doing it again.
Also, after busy season, she is being sent to a distant city for a long term (8+ month) project. I guess that’s how those folks rack up the frequent flyer miles.
No. The project she and another new hire are being sent on isn’t even related to what she is doing. It’s a forensic analysis that, with what little I have heard, was probably court ordered.
D2 had a forensic project last year that she enjoyed. It was very hush-hush. She now splits her time between M&A and compliance. She is on the tax side rather than audit. She spent all summer at a client’s place of business. She really liked that as they had business casual on Fridays.
NM, how exciting for you and your H!
WOW! to your D’s house. Amazing. Love how their island has seating on two sides.
Do they live in the country?
mp, is your D going to be in a city she can enjoy?
This week I am bored. Next week the glass sale begins and so maybe I will begin a project.
Did catch up with three GF’s by very long phone calls. Nice.
NM - D’s house is wonderful! How lovely that they have the talent to do that. My H does and he does much for us although lately it’s more for the kids. At least he is trying to teach them.
Good luck to you H! Hope he enjoys his new job.
D has a bad cold but we still did everything today and even though she did get tired I think she had a good time. Ended up that she did find the basic style that she likes for her wedding dress - looks like a a-line with a drop waist and some what like a ball gown - tulle, lots of beading and sparkle and not a lot of lace. Very different than what I expected but looks lovely on her. She pulled 3 that she likes. 2 have cap sleeves and the other is strapless. Will need to go many more times but we have plenty of time. All also had trains (she was certain that she didn’t want one) but she likes them on. I knew that this was going to be different than she thought!
RM - The dress D picked was not at all what I expected her to choose. She had been trying on completely different styles, but then she found “the dress” and it was gorgeous - but not what I would have guessed
RM, that sounds a lot like the dress that Son’s fiancé chose (including a bit of a cap sleeve.)
I may have found my MOG dress. I’m reserving judgment until the MOB chooses hers and I’m not going to tell her about mine yet. I’ve been watching it online and it was half price and I had a coupon. It was the last one on my size so I went ahead and ordered it.
H and I went in a Valentine’s wine trail. 8 wineries, 3 tastings at each. Fun but that’s a lot of wine. Don’t know if we’ll be awake for Downton Abbey.
Quiet day for us. H did make waffles for breakfast and I made homemade pizza for dinner. Not a real romantic dinner or day but it was just too cold to do anything. Kids were over last night. D still didn’t feel that good and I guess the drive home was terrible. Was nice to have everyone here though for dinner and celebration for D’s 25 b’day which was yesterday. Hopefully D’s cold will pass soon! Even now I hat to see them sick.
