We had a great weekend. As I probably mentioned, we took a three week bicycle trip in Northern California for our honeymoon, riding (with our clothes in our paniers) from B&B to B&B, stopping at wineries in between. We had a wonderful time at a B&B in Point Reyes, staying an extra day there. It was run by a Czech woman, and that B&B had a problem (fire?) and has been moved and is in different hands, but for our Valentine’s celebration, we went on Saturday night to a restaurant that is now associated to with the successor hotel (though no longer on the same site). Fabulous 7 course tasting menu. Before that, we hiked in the Point Reyes National Seashore (?), including the many steps down to the lighthouse and back (equivalent, they said to walking a 36 story building).Today, with beautiful sunny weather, we went to a farmers’ market in San Rafael, bicycling on some of the flat parts of Main, and then catching the sunset at Rodeo Beach and on the way back getting phenomenal views of the Golden Gate Bridge overlooking SF. A very fun weekend.
Congrats on the dress progress for RM’s D and MP! And NM I love your D’s blog!
shawbridge, what a wonderful weekend!
I visited my parents this weekend after a work assignment in the same state. They are getting older and don’t have much energy, but it was a nice visit and a good length of time (about 2 full days) since we didn’t really do anything. Got home late last night - first time I’ve flown JetBlue and it was great!
I have out-of-town assignments every week in February. This week’s client is nearby so even though today is a company holiday, I will be driving later on - trying to figure out when the snow is going to come so I can avoid it.
Just found out I will be traveling to Kuwait for work in March!
Wow, cq, you get around these days
Sounds like you all had lovely valentines day weekends.
Mch and holed up in Ft. Lauderdale last night and now are getting ready to head down to Miami for ship.
Mcson and gf presumably had a romantic house-sitting V-day…she painted him a lovely card like a cartoon panel illustrating significant places to him they’ve visited…according to fb, he was very touched
They are so cute!
We spent the weekend pretty much snuggled up inside. in front of the fire. Wicked cold here (as Bostonians are apt to say), but tomorrow it’s supposed to be 50+ degrees! Crazy, crazy weather.
NM – kudos to you D & SIL on all the work they’re doing on their house. It all looks great! I’ve never had that kind of patience.
shaw – sounds like a fun weekend. kmc – enjoy the cruise!
Thanks for the a dive on the hard drive, kmc. I’m ordering one today – actually a smaller capacity since I was exaggerating some about how many photos I have… All I can say is I desperately hope when I get the hard drive, off load the photos and update my iOS to the latest version, that my issues with Gmail will be resolved. I’m just not sure that will happen. Here’s the issue: I have a personal Gmail address, and H & I share a 2nd address. Since that mess last week, whenever I send an email from my personal account, it shows up in the “Sent Mail” folder under both accounts – meaning when I receive a reply to the email I sent, it shows up in the “Inbox” of both accounts. I’m positive the problem is with the “Outgoing Mail Server” – that both Gmail accounts are somehow using the same one. I have no idea how to get the 2 accounts to be totally separate, as they were originally. I’ve discovered there is no way to actually contact Google/Gmail for help – the only thing you can do is post in the “Help Forum.” I’ve done that, and have not received any responses. I’m at a complete loss.
Cb, many wrung hands here this weekend as our computer went nuts. I had been saying something is wrong for a couple of weeks. That is the extent of my knowledge–that something is wrong. H hunkered down and while it is a mess still with things in the completely wrong place, it is looking hopeful. H basically purged and reloaded everything. Hours left to sort it out.
He does not like our Geek as he charges too much. I know we need someone on our to call list so will be on the lookout.
kmc, have fun and get some vitamin D!
H desperately needs some new interests. He is never going to figure this out
and rejects anything I think of even though he agrees in theory.
He was going to go exercise just because he could not think of anything else to do.
He overexercises and is too thin, so not a great default choice.
Between work and family activities he has never had to figure this out.
Also, he is a guy who likes to go along with plans, not make them.
I thought we would have this figured out by now.
Today was supposed to be the first day at our new office, but thankfully it’s been pushed back to next week. Not the day I want to try a new commute. It is a sheet of ice out there and I plan to work from home for awhile and then go in later. H is traveling for work today, he made it to the airport.
shaw- that sounds like an amazing weekend.
c_q- You have some really interesting travel opportunities is your job!
kmc- enjoy the cruise.
I am with you FallGirl. We are getting about 18 inches of snow today. So far about 5 inches overnight. Coming down hard and I’m working from home. Just too much to try to go in. I will probably actually get more done by working at home. Less interruptions.
A foot of snow so far. Still coming down heavy. Supposed to continue most of the day.
I feel for you guys up north right now. If its any consolation, it was cool and windy last night for the blues traveller and joe bonamassa concerts on the pool deck but I’m the first to admit I’m a lucky girl to be down here
also saw Robert Randolph and the family band for the first time…OMG what a show
Since the proceeds from this cruise go to music in schools, I honestly feel like I already got my money’s worth on day one!
Client threw mcson a curve with an urgent ten foot trade show artwork job to turn in two days…I’d better buy him something nice!
Best of luck, RM. Time for snowshoeing?
Maybe if I can get some time before it melts.
That’s a lot of snow, RM. The ice ended up melting enough by 8:30 that I went in at my regular time. It was raining and a mess though. I am very ready for spring.
At my house we got about 18 inches total. A friend who lives closer to Lake Ontario got about 25 inches. Most of the major roads are clear now. Some side streets in the city they are still waiting on being plowed. I’m in the suburbs and the plows have been through several times now. They will probably come through again today and push back the snowbanks so people can see at the intersections.
Wow, y’all. It’s so warm here. I would actually love a snow day to work on a puzzle or something. But I’m not complaining.
There really aren’t snow days here. My options are to work from home, go in to work or take a PTO day. The company I work for did not close even during the blizzard. H’s options are to go in ( no work from home) or take paid leave.
Same here FG. They did end up closing yesterday but since I was already working at home I just kept working.
For those of you in the know maybe someone can help me out. For our Napa trip one thought was to do the evening Alcatraz trip. Of course they are now sold out - getting consensus from others on this trip is going to drive me batty - typically I would just have bought them. Anyway does anyone know if there are other avenues to going? I see a trip offered by a tour company that also has Muir Woods and Sausalito that looks interesting but do they actually have tickets? Do the tour companies buy some? Any tour company that some one would recommend?
Muir Woods is beautiful. it is a a national park so I don’t think it sells out. No idea about tour companies. Sausalito has a beautiful but touristy downtown. You could just rent a car.
We will have the car and Muir woods is on our list of places to visit. I’m just seeing if there is a way to get on the Alcatraz evening tour. Currently they are sold out. Didn’t know if the tour companies that offer it actually have tickets for it.
H and I saw Barry Manilow in concert last night. Being in that crowd made me feel ancient. Lots of folks were older than us. I saw Barry Manilow live in 1976…40 years ago. Oh my goodness. Of course, with all the cosmetic surgery he has the ageless freaky look (like Cher). But I admire his energy and voice. He was on stage, singing almost without break, for 90 minutes.
Barry is 72, grew up in Brooklyn. I kept wondering if he ever encountered Bernie Sanders (who is only 2 years older) back in the day. (An athletic guy like Bernie probably wouldn’t have given a guy like Barry the time of day back then.)
The energy the two of them have at 72 and 74 is inspiring.
I had to look up Barry’s love life after the concert. He had a very private commitment ceremony last year, with his partner and manager of 30 years. Barry didn’t want a legal marriage because he has always kept so quiet about his sexual orientation. Apparently his fan base is mostly older single women who still believe he is “available”. In 2016, I question that, but I’m glad he’s had someone all these years.
