It’s the weekend for me! I’m working in Kuwait, and their weekend is Friday and Saturday. Plus Kuwait is several hours ahead, so it’s evening here. Not as many touristy things here as Dubai, but I’m sure I’ll find interesting things to do.
Finally feeling much better for me. Stomach just suddenly yesterday settled down. Actually enjoying some coffee today.
Looking forward to tonight as I have my monthly sewing class. Didn’t get as far as I should have on the quilt but have made good progress and am ready for class tonight. Not quite ready for month 2 as I still have 6 blocks to do for month 1 but 2 of them are super easy. Maybe can catch up this weekend. We’ll see.
I’m currently on a plane to Europe. According to my assistant this is the first of 7 flights in 7 days. This AM, I woke up at 6:30, exercised with ShawWife, had a conference call with a client, had to take an Uber down to meet the general counsel of one of the mighty Silicon Valley companies to discuss possibly helping them, then caught a flight to Europe.
Had dinner last night with one of my college roommates and his wife. ShawWife is on the verge of some outstanding, California-inspired work. Let’s hope.
One of my favorite things in Dubai was this hotel modeled (incredibly faithfully) after an Indian Maharajah’s palace.
Started on the good cough syrup tonight – and I feel like every muscle in my torso is strained from coughing. The doctor’s office didn’t sound in the least surprised when I called; apparently whatever is going around is nasty and persistent.
Made it through the presentation croaking away, but done. Listed to one speaker to who told kids that they should follow their dreams and apply to whatever colleges they’d love to attend, and then see how the admissions and money works out when all the offers are in. Alrighty, then.
Good news: tomorrow is supposed to be 70, and I think I’m going to bring some cushions out and enjoy a little outdoor time.
feel better arabrab!
H refused my homemade sure to make you feel good remedy from my graduate school years–a nice cup of tea with honey and a good shot of bourbon.
Since he won’t, and he is driving me nuts , as he has been ill for a week–“our week” :x that D has been gone…maybe I will have that drink.
cq–you had best have adventures for the rest of us right now!
Shaw, I look like a turtle next to you.
Although, actually I look like a toad today. I did my first round of CoolSculpting.
Froze my neck, expect a 22% return. Am to do another round. So a total of 44% noninvasive return.
Could not face a facelift 8-X , and the two surgeons I saw suggested different things. Anyway, will keep you posted. It takes 8 weeks or more to get the final results…so altogether 4 months with the two treatments. It was a weird and uncomfortable hour of treatment and then—pretty much just some swelling–but think I got off easy.
Oregon, I’ll take that bourbon tea
I am tempted to cancel a meeting this morning and just take the day off.
Yesterday, due to the 7 am presentation I survived, I ended up working more than 12 hours while still ridiculously sick and then had a supremely rough night.
Normally, even if I actually catch a cold, which until this year, was rare, I usually nail the thing in a few days. I double down on an immunity product, do herbal steam inhalation treatments, etc. This time it feels like none of my tricks are actually working. Must be a virulent strain!
@oregon101 – really interested to hear about the results of your CoolSculpting. I’m really not interested in outright plastic surgery, but what you’re doing sounds intriguing. (Although I’m sure H would NEVER approve.) My main concerns are the long-term results/consequences.
Hope all who are under the weather start to feel better. We’re at the beach for a couple of days to check on the house, catch up with friends, etc. It’s unseasonably warm, but raining a little this morning. It should clear up later. We had an incredibly good, inexpensive meal last night at an Asian fusion/noodle place in the next town. The dumplings came with a side of kimchi. H said we had to start “practicing” for our trip to S. Korea.
Speaking of said trip – I just ordered lots of shoes from Zappos. H doesn’t like any of them; thinks I should get the women’s model of the Eccos he got. I’m looking for easy off/on, but also comfort. My first priority is not just style. H was all in a huff about it. Honestly, people are not going to be looking at my feet for the 3 weeks we’re traveling! I’m ordering several more pairs from Amazon, and will then decide. Then it’s on to the clothes …
I’m a little down right now. I have been walking/running and signed up for a training program which starts in April and now my ankle is in pain. I plan to take it easy over the weekend (no choice actually) and see my doctor if it doesn’t feel better. I was doing well and now this setback. In addition, S has no prospects at this point for a summer internship/job or anything, not for lack of effort on his part which is discouraging. I think I am also just tired after the stressful work week.
And I keep telling myself that in the long run- it’s really small stuff.
FG - can you bike? Would that help keep you active but not put pressure on your ankle? Not sure but I do bike on a stationary bike at the gym when my feet are bothering me. Do you have access to an eliptical? That might also be an option.
I remember the days well when D didn’t have a job. Very stressful!
Take the weekend and do something you want to do and rejuvenate yourself. I think we stress so much between taking care of the family and our own work that many women/mothers/wives don’t take enough time for themselves. I am one of those as well. Just really starting this year taking care of ME.
Feeling better from the stomach bug. Haven’t gone back to the gym yet but plan to over the weekend. I just needed some time to recover I think. The extra 1.5 hours of sleep every night when I don’t go to the gym really does make it easier to get through my day when I’m not feeling good.
Sewing class last night was fun. Always enjoyed it. Stopped doing things like that over the last few years. New machine has gotten me back into it and I’m happy about that.
It took me almost 8 weeks to fully recover from the nasty upper respiratory infection/pneumonia earlier this winter. It just lingers and lingers! Feel better everyone!
Not much new around here. H and D1 are settling in at their new jobs and D2 is crazy busy with this tax season. D1 is also making decisions about her destination wedding in November.
H will be turning 60 in a few weeks. We will be celebrating in Florida with long time friends. I just can’t believe we will be 60! I never think about aging but this year really has me reflecting about our lives. sigh…
Nm, what day? Mch turns 60 on March 28.
They’re Wiley ones, born on THAT day.
So I believe around 6:30 or 7 am I said on this thread I was taking a sick day today.
So around 7:30 I wandered into the home studio/office to call my client to reschedule, who as it turns out, is also sick and glad to resked.
It’s noon now, and somehow I just now managed to leave the desk, between responding to communications, “emergency” fixes, managing the minions n the downtown office, etc.
AND the only reason I left the desk was because a giant file blew up my email and mch is fixing.
If I am not back in bed/off work by 2 pm I am going to have to discipline myself for defying my boss’s orders of course, by then I’ll still have put in a 6.5 hr day. Good grief!
I hope all who are ill get better soon. And for the travelers-safe travel> I am in florida visiting my mother. I am going home tomorrow. It has been nice although my mom cant do much as she has bad knees. I hope that I would take care of this before my life became so limited but I know the older you get the more scary surgery is. Its just a shame because she is other wise healthy and with a good brain. My sister lives here too.
What kind of shoes did you get? was it amazon or zappos? I love zappos
DTE, ShawWife is likely approaching a couple of knee replacements. They have a life of about 20 years, so that you don’t want to do them too soon.
I’m having a late breakfast at the Exec Lounge at my hotel in London. Alas, I wasn’t going to arrive until Sunday afternoon for work on Monday by my German client decided to schedule an emergency meeting Friday afternoon. So, rather than spend the weekend in Frankfurt or fly to San Francisco and turn around and fly right back, I’m at London last minute Any good plays to see?
I’m feeling very accomplished! I finally got up the “courage” to deal with moving photos from my computer to an external hard drive – all part of the larger plan to free up enough space so I could download the latest Mac OS, which, in turn, would hopefully result in my Gmail account working properly again. I won’t bore you all with the details, but I got it done!! I’m sure for many of you this would have been “no big deal,” but I impressed myself. Things got off to a rocky start at the get-go since the external drive, advertised as working with a Mac, needed to be reconfigured. It was also somewhat of a leap of faith for me to actually delete so many photos from my computer, even though I had triple checked to be sure they were all on the external drive. ANYWAY, apparently my Gmail is fixed (it took a few more adjustments beyond getting the new OS) and at the moment technology and I are on good terms.
@downtoearth - I ordered several different styles of Ecco shoes. I have a few other styles coming from Amazon that Zappos didn’t have in my size, plus a pair from Dansko.
Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead tonight, everyone! Some people dislike this because of the lost hour, but D and I LOVE it. Every spring we text each other cheering about it.
I’m hoping springing an hour forward in the US will make it easier for me when I fly back on Wednesday! They don’t adjust the time here.
I had a nice day - a woman in my class called yesterday and asked if she could take me out for the day and show me around the area. Since it’s the weekend and I don’t have anything scheduled, and would much prefer being shown around by someone who knows the way, I accepted her offer. She took me out for a meal of traditional Kuwaiti food, then we went to a traditional market, and then a museum. I was able to ask her a lot of questions. Yesterday I explored on my own, and it is a lot more stressful when you don’t know where you’re going and you’re by yourself!
CBBBlinker, I’m impressed by your accomplishment!
Shaw, I don’t have any recommendations for plays in London, but maybe the concierge at your hotel can advise?
Also, The visitlondon.com site has something that you can put in your date and available tickets will show. The Painkiller , a farce with Kenneth Branagh looks good and it had a single ticket but looks sold out in general. There are many plays and musicals that will have availability so hope you have fun if you do get to a play. I saw the touring version of Bridges of Madison County in Pittsburgh a couple of nights ago. The leads were great, beautiful voices, they got a standing ovation. It’s a real tearjerker though, just like the movie.
Looks like a very good play. Too expensive for tonight 110 GBP but over the next few days, if I can schedule it, there are tickets for 40 GBP. I am going to try to see it.
I’m impressed CBB. I am not very handy with computers.
c_q - that’s so that you are able to have the experience of Kuwait that way.
My ankle is better today and I got through AM yoga. I still plan to take it easy for a few more days. RM your suggestion of biking is a good one we have an exercise bike which I rarely use, but I might use it instead of the treadmill for now. H and I and some friends are going to a winery for an event this afternoon and I 'll see how I do walking around there.
Gorgeous day here in MN. 67 degrees at the moment! I fear it is just a tease, however, as snow is predicted next weekend. I really have spring fever! H and I have gone for two walks. We woke up early and walked 3 miles around 8 this morning and then D1 wanted to bring her dog up and walk with us so we walked another 3 miles! Fun but now my knee is complaining. We invited H’s brother over to grill out tonight. Will be so nice to sit out on the deck and have a martini or glass of wine. Have to make guacamole in a bit and make a fruit platter and then I am ready to relax! Salut!
