DTE, sorry to hear about your dog.
kmc, I thought you were into asceticism – burlap cover on your bed. Then I realized it was a garden.
ShawD is so happily done with school. She’s cleaning her apartment so we can sublet. I just ordered a Sony RX100 II as a graduation present – so she can take pictures on her trip in SE Asia. ShawWife has a show up and got the gallery to include her older sister, who is a sculptor in Canada. ShawD bought one of her aunt’s pieces at the opening last night. Brought her aunt to tears. We, of course, were triple schedule last night. I sent to the first hour or so of the opening and then went to the birthday dinner party of our seriously foodie friends – the optometrist who fixed ShawD’s eyes and her H. I think they would have preferred ShawWife, but they got me as our representative.
FallGirl, pretty amazing, huh?
My niece in IL graduated yesterday. Outdoor ceremony. I could tell from the pix that she was wearing a coat under her gown. Some were wearing gloves.
Yes, I have lots of friends who had very chilly graduations this past weekend. Ours is Memorial Day weekend and as we get closer I will be watching the weather forecast closely!
Happy Monday to all; have a great week!
Congrats to ShawD and (in advance) c_q son.
MP I already want to see Hamilton again. Like today. Will have to settle for listening to the soundtrack on my commute. D has tickets to see it again in September (she bought last fall at face value), but SIL is going with her.
We are heading to Charlottesville at the end of the week where H’s cousin’s D is graduating. It’s supposed to be cooler than normal.
Good Morning!
dte…So sorry to hear about your dog. Sending you prayers for peace and comfort. My sister in law’s mother and dog died last week on the same day. She is incredibly sad.
Celebrated a significant birthday for me this weekend. H took off work on Friday so we could spend the day together. We enjoyed a fun Happy Hour in town and then dinner with the family at our favorite restaurant. Went to the lake on Saturday morning and just relaxed. Did I mention that D1 and D2 hosted a big birthday party for H and I two weeks ago? It was lovely. D2 opened her home to many of our good friends and we had so much fun. I think everyone loved touring the house to see all of the projects D2 and her H have completed. I really enjoyed spending time with our closest friends.
I want to see Hamilton!!! No plans to be in NYC for some time so I will just have to dream!
You have all patiently read my posts about Son and his issues and challenges for so many years. He’s matured a lot and is now getting married on Saturday. But lest you get the impression that he and Fiancé totally have their acts together, I’ll share one thing. They are getting their marriage license today. With the state-mandated waiting period, it is the last day they can do it. Because they can’t go until Fiance gets off work, they are literally doing it on the last hour of the last day.
Just a tiny glimpse into my world.
I have to say on the heels of my best friend dying I have now lost two best friends.
I am trying to distract. Our house now needs to have some things done like some floors and carpet that we haven’t fixed yet. We knew our dog was going to die and he was old so we were waiting. I wonder where on pinterest your D2 and SIL have put their ideas? NM…
I looked for tickets for tickets for Hamilton but they cost 800.00 a piece and I will wait. I do want to see Kinky Boots. We do have a new found freedom with our pooch passing. I know I will appreciate that one day.
MP of course! LOL. I am so glad he has done so well and look forward to hearing about the wedding.
I start clinicals this month. I cant believe I am going into my last year. NM I gain courage from your H changing at an hmm older age.
I have gotten a book called “Always hungry” written by a doctor at my hospital. It talks about weight loss why we make our food choices etc… I think we don’t stick to a way of eating as it is so confusing. The person who wrote it is David Ludwig. I will let you know how I like it.
Oh, Missypie, cutting it that close would make me nervous! I guess if it doesn’t work out, their ceremony can take place and the legal marriage can be later?
DTE - would love to know what you think of the book. Sounds interesting.
VENT AHEAD - FAIR WARNING!!!
D went to her first bridal show this weekend and it was a bust. No venue picked. Not many vendors in attendance - probably all busy with weddings at this point. Ugh. The venue needs to be picked to set the date Not much else can be done prior to that. Just wish they would pick something! I don’t even care what it is - just pick something!!!
VENTING OVER!
MP - Oh my goodness!! I would be on edge.
I guess rolling with Son for 25 years keeps me a bit further from the ledge that it would a parent of a neurotypical kid. Also, the two of them are allegedly writing their own vows, but neither has started writing.
You are just amazing!
Congrats DTE. ShawD really enjoyed most (but not all) of her clinicals. In one (I think a Catholic hospital), her supervisor made anti-gay comments after treating a gay patient – more than one. ShawD asked me what to do and I said “Nothing until you are finished and then complain through the school.” But, she had wonderful experiences in pediatrics, geriatrics, primary and urgent care (at the healthcare arm of one of the major local universities so she said she had very detailed conversations with professors and some students). A couple of clunkers. But generally a great experience. For you, it will probably be less eye-opening given your wealth of experience, but I’m sure getting windows on different institutions and areas of medicine will be valuable.
Congrats, DTE. How time flies! It literally felt like yesterday you started those courses.
My mom lost her dog a few years ago. At brunch the other weekend says told us she is enjoying the travel freedom, and her bf chimed in that there was no way they were getting a new pet. Nonetheless she called me the other day after secretly window shopping at a pet store
Missy, I know someone who resembles that remark
Congrats DTE if I didn’t say so before. Such an accomplishment!
Our dog is getting old - turns 12 this year and since she is a BIG dog (90 lbs) that is quite old. She still seems okay other than some arthritis which she is on meds for. I’m looking at other breeds now scoping on the next one as we will probably ALWAYS have a dog.
I would have more than one. Now once we retire maybe I’ll feel different. Hopefully this one will last into retirement age.
Congrats DTE!
Our beagle is 15 and while we love having a dog, I don’t plan to get another. With no family nearby we have no one to take her when we go away so she ends up being boarded more than I would like.
Older D’s BF remarked to her the other day that they are at the time of their lives where their Facebook feeds are full of news of the death of family pets. Interesting and true observation.
I got to sit briefly with DTE at a dinner earlier this week. Isn’t it amazing when our online and offline lives intersect? It is pretty amazing to put in the kind of intense effort that her program reqires – which I know second hand from ShawD – when she is not a kid and has lots of other responsibilities.
^ very cool that you and DTE have met, shaw. Both of you impress me.
^ Roughly 4 .5 years ago, DTE arranged for ShawD to shadow one of her colleagues to see if nursing made sense for ShawD – both ShawD and DTE’s daughters (one of whom I’ve met) thought it was odd that we were internet friends, but DTE suggested the school that ShawD will graduate from in two days when we met. Without , ShawD would probably would have gone to school in Canada and been a nurse and not a nurse practitioner. I think she is really well-suited to being an NP, so that has worked especially well. This was our second meeting, I think.
