So excited to hear missypie’s review of the wedding! Congrats to all Missypie!
Congrats to shawD.
MP am so looking forward to hearing about the wedding and seeing more pictures. I know you must be exhausted right now!
MP - can’t wait to here how everything went.
Shaw - grad party sounds wonderful.
D and Fiance looks like they have picked the venue. New place about 12 minutes from our house. Guy is still updating/building things on the property. Basically I think it’s just the venue and we will be responsible for everything including finding a caterer. So I think I’m going to become a wedding planner for a while.
Good to hear from you ,moda and congrats in advance to your D2.
Glad to hear you have a venue, RM.
Heard from boysx3 , she is doing well and we will be getting together soon.
The wedding was beautiful and fun. I"ll write a lot more later but I am being held hostage by The Relatives Who Will Not Go Home. Have to go show them the town on the day I took off from work to rest up. Doesn’t everyone know that the wedding weekend is over on Sunday afternoon? Anyway, new DIL was beautiful, Son did a great job socially and all is well.
Glad the wedding went well. Good luck with " the thing that wouldn’t leave".
Great to hear MP. Looking forward to the details when you have the chance. Some people just don’t know when to leave.
Wonderful news MP.
That’s terrific MP; so glad to hear it.
mp…love the pics on FB! You and the bride looked wonderful!
Seem to be slipping back to my insomnia pattern.Ugh…
Have book club here tonight. We read The Turner House and I expect there to be lots of discussion concerning family bonds/relationships and also the decline of Detroit/urban communities. I am in great need of intelligent and thoughtful conversation.
I agree, the FB pictures are lovely. I love all of the dresses.
Nm, I enjoyed that book. Have fun with the club!
Missy, kudos on the wedding. For those not on Facebook, do share when you can;)
On facebook. Are the picts under the CC group or something else?
RM, they’re on missypie’s regular FB page.
Hello, all. There are now pictures on the CC group page, too.
The wedding was beautiful and personal and the reception was fun. No major problems. The bride looked ethereal. Her dress (from a sample house) was perfect for her. Everyone loved it.
The ceremony was at our church with our former organist, with the bride’s pastor. DIL’s “people” were very impressed with our beautiful gothic church and pipe organ; our “people” were very impressed with the bride’s pastor. The fabulously talented organist (who is also a friend of the family) arranged the bride’s processional just for us and no one could have done a better job.
A lot of folks stayed until the very end of the reception, which is a complement. The MOB had some very good friends helping her with details. (I don’t think I have good enough friends to help with as much clean up as they did). Son did great at being “on” all day.
Older D’s BF and her two former roommates mixed very well with our kids’ cousins. The “young crowd” ended up at our house until almost 2 am. It was pretty fun to host the spontaneous after party. (Son’s HS video gamer friends pretty much stayed to themselves and didn’t dance at the reception.)
I received lots of complements on my dress but a large percentage of them were from intoxicated members of the “young crowd.”
Younger D did a fabulous job as spontaneous chauffer when anyone needed a ride. (Kuddos also to Uber for driving the intoxicated “young crowd” to their hotels at 2 am.)
I’m sure I’ll think of more later, but thank you so much for the many good wishes.
That sounds like a truly wonderful day, MP. Congratulations to all.
D thinks it is a little odd when random members of the young crowd (who I do not know) make comments admiring my hats. It happens often enough that it doesn’t phase me, though why they are impressed with straw hats with a fake flower plunked on the front I don’t quite get. I do have a wide collection…
MP - saw the picts on CC group page. Just lovely. I didn’t though see a picture of you in your dress.
Did I miss it? Would love to see it as I have started to look at dresses although not seriously yet. Where did you find yours?
Arabrab - people probably comment on the hats because so few people these days actually wear hats. I love hats but don’t wear them because I hate “hat hair” - can’t stand to have an indent where the hat would be in my hair. Just a hair think for me but I love those that wear them and can carry it off.
RM, if you scroll down on my Facebook page, there is a picture of H and me. I wore a navy Eliza J from Nordstrom. It fit well, had pockets and I felt great in it. http://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/eliza-j-dot-mesh-bodice-fit-flare-dress-regular-petite/3351262?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=BLACK
Wild week for me. Mexico City for a 9 hour meeting and then dinner with client then Calgary for a 3 hour meeting then home. Very appreciative client in Mexico City.
Good news? ShawD studied for 3.5 days and then took and passed her NP licensure exam. Apparently there are two, one easier and one harder. She took the harder one. So now she will relax a bit as she has a month before her trip to Asia, cover people’s shifts at work, and then maybe start thinking about jobs for when she returns from Asia.
What do you think of my advice to her? I’ve been suggesting to her that she consider moving to an area where a) she’d enjoy living; and b) the differential between income and living expenses is significant. Some areas pay NPs less and some more and this is not fully correlated with the expense level. There are also six states that have a better regulatory framework for nurse practitioners (Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Alaska and Arizona). I’m not sure how important this is.
I’d also advise her (and other women) that they shouldn’t put themselves in a position that they rely on a spouse to support themselves (and their children). I’ve seen a number of women with children have a husband leave and find that their financial situation becomes very difficult.
RM - how pretty the dress is. Will PM you.
