Sorry to hear that kmc and hope you are feeling better and that your issues are benign.
MP, you get good daughter karma for attending to your mother.
We just finished five days of hiking in Lake O’Hara in Yoho National Park and staying at this lodge 12 km into the park. Great hiking, beatiful glacial lakes. ShawWife’s and my knees (and muscles) are still recovering, but it is so nice – I find being there spiritually uplifting. Also, ShawWife’s allergies go down in Western Canada, as they do in Sausalito…
We go with her cousin and cousin’s partner, both of whom are intelligent thoughtful folks. I got some very intelligent advice about dealing with ShawWife’s mother’s seemingly unpleasant way of dealing with inheritance issues.
I’m headed back for a minor procedure on Friday, which will mean a month of no lifting and probably no travel (yikes).
Sendin you the surgery mojo, Shaw!
Thanks for the well wishes, folks On top of sib’s dx, she also just took a major promotion…but passed on another that would have required a lot of travel. She’s not wrong when she says things tend to come in pairs for her, heartbreak and happy.
Sending out the good thoughts to kcm, kcm S and shaw. And kcm I hope your family is able to get together again next year.
Still struggling with was has been diagnosed as a “cold”. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow and had moved into my chest. Two doctor visits , 4 current prescriptions and other than working (it’s my busy week), my energy goes to coughing spell and trying to breathe. Not exaggerating, this is something more than a cold.
Hello to all! It seems as if I often end up taking a longer than planned break from CC after being away. I think I’m intimidated by having to catch up on so many posts … ANYWAY … healing/comforting/supportive mojo and vibes to all as needed.
Since my last post (6/19) we’ve been to our usual week of family camp in NH. We started out with a couple of cool, rainy days (the new camp sweatshirts were flying off the shelves) and ended in a heat wave. While we were there a staff member died. She was a bit older (37) and on the waterfront staff. She didn’t show up for her Wednesday morning shift, and was found unresponsive when someone went to check on her. No details have been forthcoming from the Y. All in all, very unsettling.
We’ve had some spectacular weather here at the beach – although we could definitely use some rain. I’ve been playing golf 3 times a week and my handicap has actually dropped a couple of points. (So now it’s just high, as opposed to super high!)
Re: wedding – D and I are going dress shopping next Friday at a well rated salon here in RI. D is coming down Thursday night and will work 1/2 day remotely before the appointment. Then on Saturday we’re both off to a bridal shower for the D of good friends. The D is very nice, but a little bit of a “princess.” The only veil she liked cost $1200.00!!! That’s just nuts, IMO. I will qualify things, though, by saying I haven’t priced wedding dresses and accessories lately, so maybe I’m in for sticker shock? We’ll see.
S has found out his next duty station is in FL, at a base on the panhandle. He’ll report there in October. That part does my heart good, that he’ll be in the same time zone again. BUT, his job will have him in FL for 6 months and then off on deployment for 6 months – to anywhere in the world. That part does NOT thrill me at all. Sigh … We can only cross our collective fingers he’ll be able to come to D’s wedding.
When is the wedding CBB? I’m doing the wedding stuff now with my D. Her wedding is 9/16/2017. Dress selected and purchased for her along with a comb for her hair - she didn’t wan a veil. Now starting looking at bridesmaid gowns. Venue and caterer selected. We know where we are going for the flowers and the DJ we are using. I think she is going with the same photographer that S used. So – now onto the cupcakes - she doesn’t want a cake - just cupcakes and needs to be gluten free for future SIL. All in all we are doing well with the planning I think.
@RochesterMom – the wedding is the weekend after yours; 9/23/17. We have the venue (family camp in NH), photographer, DJ, & wedding coordinator. Catering is provided by the camp. It’s a weekend affair – arrive on Friday afternoon; depart on Sunday after brunch. She’ll only have 2 bridesmaids; only 1 dress needed since the matron of honor will likely be wearing dress pants and a shirt/blouse in the same color as the one dress. D and fiance aren’t really cake fans, so are thinking of cutting a pie instead of a cake, and then having a “pie bar” for dessert. They need to line up a minister, flowers, hair & make-up. We’re in good shape, too, I think.
D also only has 2 bridesmaids - and one is DIL. Since we are in town hair and makeup are easy. Sounds like you 2 are also well on your way to having things planned out.
Have had a bit of a wild ride this week. After 3 doctor visits, a chest x ray and something like 6 prescription drugs, I am finally feeling better (knock wood!). Chest xray showed my left lung was partly collapsed. Having a CT scan on Monday so it can be determined whether from an obstruction or pneumonia. I am starting to feel better a little but just walking a few block to lunch with coworkers yesterday left me winded. Yes I am still working minus time for doctor visits and trips to CVS. Taking it easy this weekend.
Good to get answers FallGirl. When S’s lung collapsed they inflated it. Take it easy!
D arrives at midnight and he BF tomorrow morning. We will all drive up to spend two nights with S and family.
H is furious with D and especially S for going over our data plan yet again. Yes, they are still on our plan which is
the bigger issue. Paying for S’s phone is the only thing we do for him and so have let it float. But now it is really
too much over and so need to end it. H put a lock on their use without telling them. I think that is not fair and even unsafe (if needed GPS late at night only to find no data available). So a problem solving conversation today and hopefully a calm one.
FallGirl, Hope you’ll consider to feel better. Good luck with the CT scan.
Our kids are both still on our Verizon plan, oregon, as it’s cheaper than having their own individual plans. But , they pay us once a year for the entire year. And know they have to pay more if they should go over or add on any extras, buy a new phone, etc. We paid for their use for one year after their college graduations but then had them start paying us. You are very generous to still be paying . I’m sure they appreciate it but sounds like a good plan to have a conservation about how to proceed going forward so that things stay calm . Good luck!
Meant hope you’ll continue to feel better, not consider to feel better, @FallGirl! Hope your procedure went well on Friday, shaw, and that recovery is going well.
oregon, maybe take a look at how much data you get for your family plan. It is easy to go over if everyone is not keeping track or the GB total available is low. With Verizon, I think you can get alerts if you are near going over. Our family plan has 8 GB for the 4 of us but the kids use that. I looked at the last statement and they each used 2 + something but that meant we were not close to going over.
Thanks sevmom --happy to read that to H! He thinks the kids are quite awful and we have (only) had 6GB.
As of today we have 8GB and alerts for everyone. H and I use less than one per month. Both S and D have been traveling for work/school and that is when it went over.
Again thanks! you gave me a foot ahead.
Shaw–ick ick ick. I simply hate hospitals and always beg/threaten to leave.
So hoping someone is carrying delicious food and one of those airline bottles of booze.
GF and I did that for each other --well for when our H’s were in the hospital–then the nurse told us they do
not care if the family drinks in the rooms. Great!
+1 Shaw.
Fall Girl, sendin you the healing mojo too. Glad they finally figured it out!
Fun wedding jazz, ladies. I will live vicariously through you
Had a nice, low key steak n swim here last night with a couple I particularly enjoy. After what feels like a lot of “volume entertaining” in July, it was nice n easy! Next Friday I’m hosting book club, then baching it as mch is going to Indiana to help his friend orchestrate his mom’s estate sale. mcSon and gf are on vaca up in MN, then heading north to see his dad. I will have to start draining the pool for a liner change scheduled but I’m thinking there’s no way I’m going to want to start until late Sunday
FallGirl…so glad they have figured out the problem! Get well!
Fell better shaw!
D1’s wedding is November 3rd. So glad it is a destination wedding where planning is done without my involvement. Her dress was ordered some time ago and I haven’t even started to look yet. This second wedding is much more relaxed.
I’m home. Not really tired (I think it is expected that one will be a bit tired) but I am not supposed to lift anything over 5 pounds for a month. Pretty much everything is over 5 pounds. Water pitcher is way over 5 pounds. A bottle of wine is about 3.75 pounds. I inadvertently carried two, assuming they were light. I will hold off on travel for quite a while (a month).
The best thing so far is a medicine I was given that makes one’s urine bright orange. On the bottle, there is a specific statement that it may/will permanently stain your contact lenses. Seriously, did someone pee on contact lenses? Where did they figure this out and why do they need to warn against it?
I suppose it could make also make tears orange and that could stain contact lenses, but I don’t notice an orange tinge to my vision (I haven’t tried crying, to be fair).
LOL Shaw. I needed a good chuckle! It’s like when they say that there is a class action law suit and if you have dies to call this number - yes I know that they mean your survivors but still way strange.
