Hope the weather doesn’t interfere with your plans, oregon!
S is in Boston this weekend visiting former college roommates. He had planned to drive up this morning, but with the forecast left yesterday afternoon instead.

Not good. I try to never use the term “no fair” in my life (because, of course, no one said that life would be), but goodness, no fair!
DTE, continue to be impressed about you and school.
Hope everyone with health issues is back on the mend.
DTE, sorry to hear about your D. Good with SIL’s program.
Hang in there on the semester. My recollection is that it was a real slog but then you will be done.
ShawD is still waiting for her papers to come from the government. Her physical NP license never came which is slowing down the DEA or some other branch of government.
Her doctor thinks she has Mitral valve prolapse. which her father has a s well.
Now she has a stomach virus and is vomiting etc… She is feeling cursed.
praying for the people in Florida.
dt, so sorry your D is ill!
shaw, blah to slow paper work
Thanks for the support. I cannot believe that they have not contacted the traveling interviewees.
A week ago when D called for a different reason they mentioned the storm that will begin tomorrow.
I cancelled the first reservation–and a few hours later many of their rooms are booked.
I changed hotels and booked at a hotel that is on the Max line. However the city is already saying
it might be shut down. It is a mile walk and I just bought Yaktrax for all of us so walking is hopefully
possible for D. This is a well known chain hotel. It is so cheap with the senior discount that I am a little
worried! I am not know for inexpensive hotels but $110 a night or $300 a night for the best one…
I only lose $110 if I cancel by tomorrow so peace of mind and all of that.
Just spending the day worrying. We have beautiful sun and cold today so it is hard for H to believe that we
really might be stranded in our neighborhood again.
During our last storm a friend needed to stay in a hotel near a medical clinic and all were booked nearby.
OK, well I did decide correctly. Told H on the phone to not second guess me and he has been
totally supportive saying it will be an adventure.
The weather reporters, who have been disturbingly correct the last two storms (think it will snow at noon and there was snow at noon) have now said it will begin at 10 am tomorrow.
So H will be up early and we will leave as soon as he says the weather has changed.
We might be hanging in a Starbucks all day.
D has no information as she has been flying the last 5 hours.
Packing our wine, food (restaurants may be closed).
Come hell or high water this D WILL be at her interview.
It is a game changer–3 years here and her probable future H moving here.
grrrr…
So watch the interviewers not make it themselves…
The hotels around the Medical center are filling up fast!
Oregon, hope you are all safely situated and your D’s interview goes off without a hitch!
We just spent the night on the houseboat during the storm. Not a big deal. Shawwife not seasick. Nice to see friends for dinner.
Celebrated GS’s birthday this weekend. He seemed to really like the train cake. He is very into trains right now. So Sat it was go to the grocery store, make a chocolate cake for the track (not that you even see the effort I put in there), white cake for the train cars, chocolate chip cookie cake for S’s birthday, and then gluten free cupcakes for D’s fiance. Then clean, laundry and basically by the time I was done it was time to go.
Yesterday was much more relaxing.
Waving hello to all from FL – sunny, but cool and windy. Our pup did really well traveling, so that made things easier. We had been scheduled to spend 2 nights in Charlottesville, VA (our first stop) so we could tour Monticello and have dinner with friends. But H, who is a little OC about the weather, was tracking the snowstorm and determined we needed to hightail it out of there. Good call! He changed reservations around, and we ended up in Savannah a day earlier than planned. (We had purchased tix to Monticello online, and even though the fine print said no refunds/changes/etc., we called and they’ll honor them in February on our return trip.) Things really worked in our favor – the owner of condo we’re renting in FL emailed us to say we could get in a day early if we wanted! SO, here we are, right on the beach.
Get well wishes to all in need. Best wishes to oregon’s D. dte - my H has mitral valve prolapse; doesn’t bother him except when he drinks too much regular coffee. Then he gets what he calls “heart blips.” NM - what is your D2’s new job? At the same place or another company? Interesting NYE stories, shaw & mp. And mp - IMO, if someone has to tell you they’re Christian, there’s good chance she/he really isn’t. (And what does that even mean, anyway?)
S sent us pix of the work he has started on his newly purchased townhouse. Floors all ripped up, etc. He can do most of the work himself. He said there’s some rewiring/electrical stuff that needs to be done, too – but he IS an electrical engineer …
CBB…D2’s new job is with a BIG corporation. They had been her client with her accounting firm and she worked in their office last summer when she was on loan staff. First week went very well.
Have been busy getting ready to host an open house this coming Saturday for D1 and her new H. We expect 50-75 people who were not at the wedding in Mexico. I wanted something a little more laid back so we are doing wine & cheese on the main floor and then craft beer and pub snacks downstairs. I “refreshed” the girls’ old upstairs bathroom with new paint, towels, rugs and shower curtain yesterday for overflow guests. Cleaning carpets today. Having son in law make a rustic board that will run down my dining room table to place the charcuterie items. Had to borrow extra champagne flutes and wine glasses. I have 48 but don’t want to be washing glasses during the event! Decoration is minimal. Doing a few crafty items: banner, wine cork spreaders, wine cork placecards, white lights, lanterns and ice globes outside. Making my ice globes tonight…wish me luck!
NM, that sounds fabulous! And RM, the party/cakes sounds yummy.
Sitting on Amtrak right now headed to where it is even colder and snowier.
Called it right–we have been in a hotel for two nights. Still unclear that we will get to our house today D has 6 am flight tomorrow to a site with even more snow.
A gal she did a rotation with last summer stayed in our hotel. She nearly did not make it as many flights were canceled. She even rented a car and drove to a second airport only to find that flight canceled so she went back to the first airport. We adopted her for a few days. H drove them to their dinner across town as the city is fine.
H also took took her and picked up D who was about 500 ft from the interview building at 7 because
it was pouring rain. Of course, I volunteered him but he was nice about helping them.
RM,the train cake sounds darling!
"
CB, nice when it works out so well. I understand your H’s intensity about the weather!
D suggested that I should have been a meteorologist. I have been through many "weather " events
in my life back when I did not even have proper clothes and gear. But I was young and not afraid of breaking something or being stranded.
NM, you have no idea how much I would love to come to one of your parties!!!just sound amazing and you do everything with such grace.
Send fairy dust to D!! It will be so wonderful if her life and future lands here.
Safe travels cq
I was sick all weekend and stayed home yesterday. This is worthy of remark only because I have never seen a more contagious bug in workplace (among folks who had the flu shot no less.) Among my department and the department I support, each has one single person who isn’t sick (yet). Good thing it’s not fatal!
Anyone here following twitter tonight? I haven’t laughed so much at inappropriate juvenile humor in a very long time.
Epic snow storm. Entire city shut down. So glad D got in and out.
It is quite beautiful. about 3 feet on our deck.
Oregon, so she had the interview? How did it go?
Thanks for asking, shaw. Yes, she had her interview and felt it went well.
25% of the candidates did not make it . We do think they are being offered another date but it is one
where she had a conflict.
We ended up 3 nights in a hotel. A basic one so not a great experience.
Managed to get to good enough restaurants. Went to a movie. All the while not able to return home
due to ice.
Then we had a window–PDX was closed–opened for less than 12 hours but D got out and went to her next interview.
The snow started a few hours after we returned home and now we are living through an epic storm.
The entire city has been shut down and chains have been required on all major streets.
I would not go on about this except that now the state and city has declared an state of emergency.
I managed to stop at the liquor store and we have loads of wine left from the Holidays.
I think we can go about a week for interesting food. H spent 2 hours digging our car out where
we left it and hiked home as it is on a major street. H hopes to get out for work tomorrow but as all
medical clinics were closed today we will not know until morning.
H received a notice that every hospital in the metro area is in crises for beds.
Accidents and flu.
I am hunkering down not expecting to really leave our neighborhood until Monday.
Glad I have exercise equipment here. Maybe I will finally do that paperwork I keep putting off?
Sending oregon D fairy dust and such as the interview committee considers her application!
H was down and out with the stomach virus that I had last week and am still struggling with. He lost 6 lbs. in a day. This is nasty stuff. I have been disinfecting like crazy as we have our open house for D1 this weekend. Good thing I haven’t started on any of the food.
