And, to bring the conversation full circle to college, three 11th grades in a row?!
Congratulations to you and yours, @RochesterMom! But, as you say, “Better them than me.”
@kmcmom13 – I really do think the bus needs to deliver us all to your little oasis. Swimming in the heated pool, studying the stars and lots of shenanigans! Plus wine!
Looking forward to temps in the 60s this week. (Hey, it’s the little things!)
Congrats to your family RM. Had they talked about wanting a large family all along?
Although I am a middle of 5, 3 is now big to me!
Recently G’son told his mom and dad he wants a brother or sister. S told his wife he wants a dog.
DIL told them both that they were getting a cat. Which they did. All seem satisfied.
km, keep us posted!
Hoda Kotb just adopted a baby girl at age 52. I can’t even imagine! But, at least she has the resources to hire any help she needs.
Oregon - DIL always wanted at a minimum of 3. S was happy with 2. Obviously DIL won that argument.
What I’ve heard is once you are over 2 it doesn’t matter the number (not sure that I would agree) because you aren’t able to have one on one. That being said it does help that both her parents and us only live in the next town over so issues we can help out.
Congratulations RM, and I hope all who are recovering from illness/injury get better soon. I’ve been rather hiding from social media, but can’t quite do so for another 47 months. Sad!
We’re just finishing a run of ridiculously warm weather (71 yesterday!) --but maybe some snow tomorrow. I care not, because we’re heading to Florida on Saturday. Wish me luck for pleasant temps there. We’re renting a 52’ yacht. Not the right to take it anywhere, but a docked yacht. I guess we’ll get the chance to see if the yachting/houseboat lifestyle is for us. We’re also renting a convertible.
Happy trails arabrab! I know what you mean about social media but I’ve decided the best way to deal with it all is to find a meaningful, fact-based account of something and post with explanation, followed by actively seeking out cute animal images
Kind like taking honey with your castor oil. Seeking out post worthy news and international perspectives from original sources has felt somewhat empowering and is better that just reacting…
CBB, bring on the bus
I’ve decided to have a small April Fools Stargazing party in honor of the astro-dome shenanigans. Yesterday I went out back and discovered the four wall panels and back bay had mysteriously made it up to the top of the platform.
Mch, it turns out, had sequestered my assistant on his mad quest and the two of them managed the feat. Which was explicitly what I (and I suspect, the workers comp board) had vigorously forbade
Seems he will not be deterred and wait for the guy I’ve hired to do this…sigh
He carps about finding his freedom-loving 88-yr-old dad up a tree cutting a limb but I have seen my own future and suspect I have every bit as much to worry about
I still think you need to write a book about your adventures kmc.
Arabrab- I am still on social media but am trying not to like the posts I agree with or let the ones I don’t bother me. It is hard. I have noticed that a number of my FB friends seemed to be on breaks.
S turns 21 today! He is my baby. Of course he tore the new coat he bought (because he forgot to pack his coat when he went back after the holidays) and he can’t replace it as it is out of stock, so now I need to ship his other coat to London. Hopefully it gets there.
FallGirl, do you have the youngest child of the regulars here? (My baby turned 21 late last year.)
I have changed my Face Book settings so that my newsfeed doesn’t show the posts that make me crazy. I haven’t unfriended anyone; I just don’t get a lot of folks’ posts in my feed.
FG - Happy birthday to S.
Not much going on. Working a lot it seems. Just need this stupid cold to go away. Doing some wedding planning. Ugh the limo and bus are expensive!
@missypie I think I do have the youngest child on this thread.
@missypie – Funny you should mention FB settings; I just FaceTimed with a good friend who walked me through some of the deep down settings, and how to change them. My privacy is locked down tight, since S is in the military – better safe than sorry. BUT, she figured out how to control what info from you your FB friends see in their newsfeeds. This was prompted by a pretty ugly argument with her father over politics. (What else, these days?) She had “liked” a news article on FB; her father saw that she had “liked” it and got all upset, since he didn’t agree with the article. Now her father can’t see what she “likes,” or what comments she makes on posts from other people.
@RochesterMom – that’s one good thing about having D’s wedding at the camp, which is on a small island. No need for buses or limos! There are no cars on the island; everyone walks. There are a couple of golf carts to transport people who need it, including D from where she and the bridesmaids get ready to the chapel.
Neither of my ds used limos or buses. We did have free shuttles from hotel to wedding and then returns at end of night.
^ We did the same as NM with D’s wedding. The shuttle was pricey, but we didn’t want anyone driving after drinking.
No shuttles so we want to provide. That way no issues with guests who may have had a bit too much. Also the venue is in the country to don’t want people getting lost either.
That being said I am struggling with how it all is going to work. D would like it to not just be a bus that did one trip but does several - so that being said I think we are at limo size again. She and girls will also need one to take them to the venue - same one? That is what one service is suggesting and I have had good luck with them in the past which is why I’m even considering it. Then at the end of the night D and future SIL will go back to the hotel to stay instead of driving back to their house - 30 minutes away. So they could ride with people back. Just trying to figure out the logistics and with September being leaf season here and this is mid month I have to figure this out soon or there won’t be anything left. I will figure it out. Just taking longer than I had hoped.
Good weekend. I purchased a steam cleaner and wow what a difference it made on my bathroom floor and my cooktop. Still needs another go over at least but so much better and really easy compared to all my typical scrubbing!
D ordered her save the date cards and has picked her choices for food. I just now need to add it all up and make sure it’s not too much!
She does have a tendency to pick the more pricey food items but that is what she likes.
If reasonable I’ll send in the info today.
Did a bit of sewing on Sunday - not as much as I would have liked though.
I could live in that room given the option. Currently working on learning to machine smock. I’ve done hand smocking. Time consuming but enjoyable. Local store may be interested in me teaching a machine smocking class if I can ever figure it out.
Did make some progress yesterday.
Hallway painted and starting the hardwood floor for the hallway and stairs. I really want a few more rooms done prior to the wedding with all the out of town guests. So my house is a mess with furniture moved all over the place but all good! Will be nice once it’s done. Lucky for my my H is handy.
Wow, RM, you are like the Energizer Bunny!
Not much going on here - D returned home a week ago, and seems to be keeping busy and doing okay.
I was traveling for work last week in a remote/rural area. Luckily the weather was nice - wouldn’t have enjoyed the drive as much if the roads were snowy or icy. The area was beautiful and I enjoyed the trip.
I’ve been having difficulty lately with inertia. When I’m not working I sit down to read a book or watch a movie and next thing I know the day is gone. I know I need to get up and move more, but it’s just not happening.
Went to bed before the end of the Oscars last night, so I missed the best picture excitement. I haven’t seen all the films nominated, but I did see 9 of them. Still have a few I want to see.
Not really CQ. I just have to get things done. It really bothers me to live in chaos or have a slew of projects that I need to take on so I try to knock them off. Of course I always have a ton more waiting in the wings. If I can teach a few classes a month I look at that as something that interests me during retirement so figure I might as well start since the opportunity presented itself.
Although I love to read now days if I read in the morning at the gym that is about all I manage. Nothing like reading on the eliptical or treadmill but that is all I can find time for lately. That’s fine.
Didn’t watch any of the Oscars and haven’t seen any of the movies so you are 9 a head of me.
I’m always in chaos. Got in from Sao Paulo Saturday afternoon. Went to a party Saturday night. Then an early morning farmers’ market, hiking by the ocean in the Marin Headlands, a Costco shopping trip, a phone call to a new prospective client in Hong Kong, and dinner with one of my colleagues (and his 9 month old son and wife) and two friends. Heading to London tomorrow afternoon.
I just try to hire people to manage the chaos a bit.
We didn’t watch the Oscars either, so missed the snafu. Wow! That’s right up there with colleges who have sent acceptances to students who weren’t supposed to get them.
Met with D and fiance on Saturday re: wedding stuff. They recently adopted a dog, which I have no problem with. They made a couple of comments that prompted me to ask if they were bringing the dog to the wedding. Although I know that’s up to them, I did say there will be no dogs participating in the ceremony. I don’t believe I’m being an overbearing MOB, but I told D early on there may be a few things that are non-negotiable with me. One was that they be married by a minister, and not by a friend of theirs who did whatever you need to do to be certified to do weddings. This (no dogs in the wedding) is the second. IMO, they’d be better off just boarding the dog for the weekend; time will tell. (They’re not planning on going on a long honeymoon trip right after the wedding; they’ll do that later.)
@RochesterMom – what kind of steam cleaner? Would it work to clean the tile and grout in a shower? I’m all for something that means less scrubbing by me!
