Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

NM, so sorry. There was a Doctor Radio program last week where they discussed the influenza virus v.s. the idea of a regular flu. Using “influenza” to point out that this is a serious virus. Evidently it can take months to get your energy back. Their best advice was loads of fluids and then bedrest for much longer than you want to with just some light walking around the bedroom off and on.
It was very interesting but also discouraging. Hope you feel better but best to not push.

cq, so much fun that your D gets to go with you!

CBB, yes, Match is on St. Patrick’s Day. FSIL made a dinner reservation way ahead of time.
We do not leave until 5 Sunday–had not thought about the parade.
We arrive in snow and then quickly turns to the 50’s. Nice for packing. X_X

@CBBBlinker Hope the surgery goes well! Any surgery is scary. Glad you can be there for it. I’m sure your brother and SIL will really appreciate the support.

Hoping and praying for good health for all. And have my fingers crossed for your D on match day @oregon101.

Not my best week. It was the busy week with long days at work. As a staff level employee I am sometimes amazed that my work now is in many ways far more complex that what I did as a manager 25 years ago! The workplace has changed and so much more is expected. On top of this, my Dad is having some more health issues and S called yesterday regarding a passport issue (it was damaged), so it has been very stressful. Oh and my stomach is acting up…

If I feel ok tomorrow we are supposed to visit a winery with some friends. I could use some wine.

When the flu ravaged our office in January (almost everyone got it), it settled in my eyes…I think it’s related.

CBB…sending good thoughts, prayers and fairy dust to your brother and family.
FallGirl…hoping you feel better! Wine is always a good way to relax! Even better with chocolate!
oregon…can you believe how quickly the time has gone for your D?!? How exciting for her! wishing her match is exactly what she wants!
missy…I can’t believe I have pink eye! Thank heavens my BIL is an eye dr and called in a prescription for me. I had this last year, too. I can’t ever remember having pink eye for the past 50 years!

dte…thinking of you!Hoping school is going well!
shaw…sending healing thoughts and prayers to shawson!
RM…I hope you can relax this weekend.
cq…A trip to Scotland! Enjoy your time there with your D. I think of her often and hope her heart is healing.

Had a major windstorm in our area on Wed. Other than traffic it really hasn’t affected me. That being said I have a hair appt. tomorrow morning and just received a text that she has hot water and heat but no electricity so I will be leaving with wet hair. With temps tomorrow only going up to the low 20s that just sounds like fun!

Wow
Found out about winter storm Stella yesterday a.m. from a text from D saying this is not good…Alaska was already offering no change fees or $ back!
No flights Monday or Thursday
So here we are already in Boston for the big day Friday. Had to buy first class. It was heaven but so much$$.

At our hotel for 3 nights and then D and FSIL’s for 4.
H thinks we could just be with them all 7

All I need to do is think about company for 7 days and the hotel is worth every penny.

Ok just have to say that after only 4 hours sleep last night this is the first time I have ever flown East and not had jet lag. It has to be the first class…so not stressful!

Glad you won’t miss anything due to the impending storm, Oregon. With the time zone difference, daylight saving’s time, etc it’s amazing you don’t have jet lag!

Good morning. Hope those needing healing mojo are faring better today.
We were knocked off the power grid last Wed with wind storm and got to test out new portable generator for 3 days  my car smells like gas, clothes smell like gas…you get the idea  Fun times.

That said, the dome stayed up, the pool heated, I could flush the toilet (well pump) and the house was warm (boiler) so we fared a lot better than many. Nonetheless, major pita and lots of work to catch up on.

I hope you guys are weathering/will weather the storm as it comes. Glad to hear the hear that the dome stayed up, kmc. Oregon, glad to hear that you made it to Boston in time.

We are having wonderful weather here, having lived through lots of rain storms in January. ShawSon is not a happy camper but is on an upward trajectory. We hope the ultimate benefit is worth the pain.

Living on the West Coast in the winter is really nice. (Yesterday AM, seals woke me up). One downside is that I have to get up early for conversations with the East Coast and Europe (I am not normally an early riser). Friday AM, I had a 6 AM call with a client’s Chairman preparing him for a board meeting from a hotel near ShawSon’s hospital. Today, I am on a conference call starting at 7 AM interviewing an Executive Director candidate for an NGO on whose board I serve. I made coffee and watched the sun rise over the water and Mount Tamalpais.

Got all my errands done this morning, including a trip to the grocery store to stock up in anticipation of the impending H-U-G-E snowstorm headed our way tomorrow. All of greater Boston was also stocking up; I ended up going to another store than my usual one because there were absolutely no open parking spaces. It’s a pretty bad parking lot under normal circumstances; this morning was not normal.

D texted me this morning; she’s on her 3rd or 4th florist, looking for one that’s not already booked on the date of her wedding. I’ve been after her for several weeks, saying we need to nail this down NOW. She now has 2 possibilities; she’s doing a phone interview with one but the other wants an in person consultation. So, it looks as if she and I will drive to NH on Thursday. Friday I’ll be at the hospital where B is having his surgery.

I’m loving the time change! Even with the snow on it’s way, it feels like water weather is ahead.

I agree with you CBB on the time change. I loved it yesterday as even with losing an hour of sleep it just seemed so nice to have it light later.

Florist we have booked. Just sent off the catering menu to the cater this morning. D and fiance have their website set up and the save the dates should be going out this week. We just keep checking off things. Limo I think I’ve settled on the company and I should have the contract at my house when I get home – or I hope so!

Taking my laptop home tonight in case we actually get the snow. We won’t close down and if I can work from home and not drive in it I will be happy.

D goes Sat. for the first round of how she wants to where here hair for the wedding. We’ll see how that goes. Slowly getting it done.

My first-world whine: I typically order groceries on Friday evening to be delivered Sunday evening; that way I’m stocked for the week. Well, last night when they delivered my groceries, over three-quarters of the items I ordered were missing. I only received four out of seventeen items ordered!

So even though I thought we could avoid the pre-storm rush at the grocery store, H is headed there because he’s almost out of coffee, and that was one of the items they didn’t deliver.

They keep increasing the expected snowfall. Have received alerts so far that schools are closed tomorrow and that public transportation may be impacted.

CQ - I wish we had that ability here. I don’t believe any of our local stores deliver groceries.

RM - I’ve been using Amazon Fresh. Amazon also has a service called Prime Pantry. I’ve also used a company called Fresh Direct. But no matter what you use, it has to be available in your area.

I tried Amazon Fresh on a 30 day free trial, since I already had a Prime membership. After the first month, to continue it is $15 a month. I have to order $40 worth of groceries or there’s an additional delivery fee. I initially planned to cancel after the free trial, but it has been wonderful and worth the $15 a month.

We are expecting quite a bit of snow tomorrow so it looks like a work at home day for me. Grocery shopping was done on Sunday and Blue Apron delivered today so we should be set. Tomorrow’s Sunrise Yoga is already cancelled but I am likely doing an upper body workout with a snow shovel tomorrow . Not sure how to log that one on my Fitbit.

More importantly, D is on her flight from the midwest back to NYC. She was actually on a later flight and got on this one, so that worked out well.

CQ - I don’t think we have Amazon Fresh here. I should look as I do have Amazon Prime. I would love to not have to grocery shop. Sigh!

FG - I decided to work at home. Not really bad here yet but the roads I guess are slippery. Have some snow but not a ton yet in the Rochester area. More to come. For us it’s a 2 day event not ending until late tomorrow. I’ll get more done this way anyway. Less interruptions.

Looked it up - no to Amazon Fresh. Figures. We have Wegmans. Great store but still I hate giving up an hour or an hour and a 1/2 to just go to the grocery store every weekend. I would rather have that time to do something fun.

Sorry, RM - when we moved here, it wasn’t available for our zip code, so there’s always hope for the future.

Snow has changed from big fluffy flakes to something louder and icy. I think they’ve downgraded the amount we’re forecasted to get.
