D’s college has swine flu; and one of the handful of kids who has it is one of her best friends who lives on her floor. D has been helping to “take care” of her friend (bringing food, medications, wipes, etc.), and insists she is being careful. I can’t tell her to stay away from her friend, but I still worry that she’ll come down with it. Her friend lives fairly close to the college, and is going home early for the upcoming four day fall break; D lives 2000 miles from us…

Another family with a sophomore PSAT taker here. I’ve tried not to put too much emphasis on it, to spare D2 any comparison with her NMSF sister. And talk about walking an emotional tightrope! She has a ton of work this week and is trying to work ahead on a research paper so she can go away this weekend. Last night she had a computer glitch and lost the whole evening’s work on the paper :(. Lots of tears.

Sorry to hear about all the sick kids. I guess the fact that D had the flu early in the semester was actually a blessing - she is fully recovered and didn’t fall too far behind, although she just reported a C on one midterm :(

You are so right, rrah.

Adding to the emotions: auditions for the musical this week. 120 kids trying out. Yikes!

^^^^ahhhh, to have a “teflon” boy this time around. This one is kind of stress resistant or at least has been for 16 years.

missypie, you’re right, it seems to take a very long time to get the PSAT scores but don’t forget your daughter can sign up online at collegeboard to get them earlier.

Uh, not how it worked last year…the PSAT scores don’t come out online until the school okays it. Last year we knew of a lot of kids who get their info online before S2 did; we called to find out what was up and this is what we were told.

PSATs, SATs, ACTs all behind us.
Now it’s finals and scholarship status that I have to worry about.
In some ways I would love the distraction of an up and comer
And in some ways…not

missypie, I think at ShawbridgeD’s school, they take the PSATs on an upcoming Saturday. Interesting that they are not offered nationwide on one day. ShawbridgeMom and I will be in Paris for a long weekend to celebrate our anniversary.

Ah, I love Paris. Paris and Barcelona are my favorite cities.

Good luck to the PSAT’ers, auditioners, etc.!!

This is what I do - I keep mine in my underwear/sock drawer and only take it out in the morning to take the medicine and don’t talk to anyone about it.

happy anniversary Shawbridge!

Another with a S15 - PSAT not until this Saturday at his school though. He did take it last year as a freshman, I just wanted him to get an idea of what it was all about. He’s a pretty good standardized test taker but was not too happy with his results which I hope was a bit of a reality check for him! Hopefully he’ll do better this year…not that he’s even given it any more thought!

D will be finishing up her first month at her college. Happy (for the most part) with her classes, seems to be doing well, making new friends, getting involved in tech crew. Says she has not heard of the flu going around, so that is good. She and roomie are getting along well and are making separate friends (she was worried at the beginning that roomie seemed a little clingy but things are working out). She’ll be getting her care pkg tomorrow so should be quite happy for the weekend!

Tomorrow is #theoryson’s final first term final and then he is home for 10 days (about the length of time I have not heard from him- sigh - LOL)

H&I celebrated 20 year anniversary a week ago today. I got Bupkiss. If I am really honest, I was pretty disappointed. We never really exchanged anniversary gifts per say, but I thought 20 would be a pretty big deal – worthy of paris for sure!
Curious to know if Mr or Mrs Shawbridge set that trip up. Paint me green and call me jealous.

Shawbridge: Happy anniversary and have a great time.

Modadunn: Perhaps you need to buy yourself something and tell your H it was his gift to you.

We also don’t do anything for anniversaries typically but H knew that 5,10,15,20 and just this past June 25 deserved something. Vacation coming up - just going about 1-2 hours away to a lovely place in the finger lakes or so I hear - Bellhurst Castle. I can’t wait and really need the break.

Over 100 cases now of H1N1 at D’s school. She is helping out one friend on the floor who has it by getting meals etc. Hopefully she won’t get it because of her good deed.

And here I thought I’d really put one over on my DH when I made it appear that he conceived the idea to celebrate our anniversary in Key West : ) Clearly, I am mere grasshopper to Mrs. Shawbridge’s power of behavior modification ; )

I love paris . congratulations on your anniversary! I have heard Key West is awesome too.
I was thinking, did the insomnia problem ever get settled? It was in a long ago post and I wondered what happened. I probably just missed it.

thanks for the nice wishes. It is usually hard to have a bad time in Paris (as long as you don’t worry about how much you are spending). But, the hotel and my wife’s business class airfare are on points/miles and my client is paying for me, so what are a few mere restaurant and taxi expenses anyway.

downtoearth, I think it was JoLynne Smith’s son who was having sleep issues and they have been resolved. My son is doing OK with regard to sleeping. He’s had a long history of sleep issues, much improved after surgery last January. He did mention that he was thinking of asking for a single at some point. He was back for Columbus Day weekend and, although he had gotten sick a couple of weeks before and made it through mid-terms, he had recovered a lot of his energy. In years past, he would still be low energy. So, things look good.

Modadunn sorry you had a disappointing anniversary
Sometimes our men need to get a whack upside the head sometimes the just need a clear indicator. My H blew off Valentines Day…I mean, not even a CARD and I was peeved so for our upcoming 20th I pointedly said “Let’s go to Catalina.”

Shawbridge congrats and enjoy!

theory enjoy your boy!

I am sick, not going to work tomorrow, but hope to be fit as a fiddle for Family Weekend at SMC this weekend.
