Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Are you in a warm part of AZ? Because if you are, the northerners may get off the bus and not get on again.

Not sure if you ever get used to the bitter cold temps we are experiencing now. D2 wants silk long underwear for Christmas. She has never had to walk much outside unless she had her snowboarding pants on for fun in the snow but now that she has to walk across campus she wants something that will keep her warm under her jeans. She says her coat, boots, hat and gloves are great but her legs are freezing! Santa will pick some up asap!

NM–tell your D that regular ol’ pantyhose also work for under jeans.

We come from a fairly “cold in the winter” place to begin with but both d and s have taken it a bit further. It’s lightly snowing at D’s school now and S had about 1.5ft on the ground on Sunday and it was still snowing yesterday.
They both LOVE it but they also both ski, know how to do the layers, etc.

:: stealthily steals pitcher of margaritas from Bandie while Missypie distracts her and sun from Z’s SoCal window. Sighs and looks out window at continuing snow…

::grabs 7 layer dip, chips Frankie Avolon CD and beach blankets and brings kmccrindle so sunshine::

After the home tour, I think we need to check into a resort for one night, just to finish the food and drink and to give your loved ones an extra day to get the house cleaned, shopping and baking done and gifts wrapped. Any resort suggestions?

I have had a terrible time accessing CC today. Isn’t it ED decision day somewhere? My how things have changed in a year.

I finally get here and all of you have made the best drinks and snacks and have the trip planned. After MN I hope you all convince the driver to head down to IN. I can make a lovely, festive goat cheese spread with pesto and sun dried tomatoes. I personally would like to see Matthew Mcconaughey on the bus. I know he’s much younger than most of us, but…what happens on the bus, stays on the bus. We could drop him off back in TX when we arrive at Missypie’s house.

DD thought it would be amusing today to tell me she missed her final. She knows I was worried about it. For about 1/10th of a second my stomach dropped, and I felt sick. Before I could respond to her, I realized, as serious as she sounded, it was a joke–hahaha. She has one final left on Thursday. It’s the easy one I think.

Good Lord! What a sense of humor!!

woody, I’m assuming you’re referring to my D’s little joke. That was my reaction also. Fortunately for me she’s never been a great liar. I guess it was just a way for her to relieve some stress, but oh please never do it again!

Oh yeh! This trip is sounding better and better all the time.

Don’t all of us still have recurring nightmares relating to college finals? For me it’s not missing the final. It’s looking at my schedule and realizing that I have to go take a final for a class I had forgotten I signed up for.

(BTW, I did run out of gas one time on the way to a law school final.)

Canyon Ranch, of course. It’s in Arizona. That’s close to Texas, right? ;)

rrah, I’m thinkin’ after the bus does its Northeast pick up(s) they can come pick me up in OH and then we’ll zip over to IN. And is it really robbing the cradle to want Matthew Morrison from GLee on the bus?

oregon101…pantyhose  !!! I don’t think she even knows what they are! ;)
Picked up some cuddl duds at Target this afternoon. It was packed! Still picking up stocking stuffers. Now D1 says I need to have a stocking for her BF. Besides candy and golf balls any other good ideas for a guy???

rrah…Boy, do I know that feeling in the pit of the stomach! Glad she was just teasing! :)

In the aisles with the Christmas candy, Target has a couple of styles of Star Wars Christmas bobbleheads…C3PO dressed in a Santa Suit and Darth Vader holding a gift.

uuuhhhhhh that was “some” sunshine

For the resort, let’s not overlook the delights of sitting in front of a crackling fire watching it snow, with George and Matthew (not robbing the cradle, he’s of age) giving us massages and plying us with delicacies. Plus I’m thinking massage by scantily clad masseurs.

D came home from school and announced that her throat hurt and that a tooth was bothering her. We set up a doctor appointment and a dentist appointment–the dentist appointment was a little hard to schedule, but they managed to find a time for her to come in the next day.

Found out at the doctor appointment that she had strep throat! Say goodbye to keeping the dentist appointment.

I feel like my kid is a fighter in the ring–the bell rings at the end of the round and she comes back to the corner where we fix the cut on her eye, give her a drink, rub her shoulders and then send her back into the ring when the bell next dings.

no I didn’t realize that. I was under the impression this was advised for freshman coming in if they wanted a more proof based class.

Son came in with Calc I and II credits, so thought the first 2 parts of this Analysis sequence would have overlapped with what he knew

I guess not so much.

Last term he got a B but was expecting a C - so who knows how it will go this time.
I think had he had better instruction in HS he would be one of the freaks in class too, but he was severely limited. It was pretty bad. The AP class did not even have a teacher, there were 3 kids and they worked alone out of a book. I don’t think they all passed the exam. S got a 4 and was disappointed. He felt there was a TON of stuff that they just never got to in the class

I am encouraging him to just hang in there because once he gets it he will be on his way. He did put in for his major in math - he wasn’t sure after last term - so maybe it is going better for him and he feels it is still a good major for him to pursue. I hope he will discuss this with me when he gets home - IN THREE DAYS!!!

Hope your daughter heals before Christmas, Ellemenope.
Somehow I don’t picture this keeping her down though!
Glad she is home with you to recouperate.
