H & I are are the world’s “most awesome parents.” I know because D finally called, and that’s what she said.

We achieved this status because we each sent her a package: I sent a box of citrus fruit (mostly from our trees), and a loaf of home baked bread; H drop-shipped speakers for her computer.

Great news. He feels liked he aced his engineering exam (has been getting A’s in that class anyway) and was able to sign up for a beginner’s basketball class that starts March 21st. Apparently, they have these classes in the wings to handle exactly this problem of mid-semester drops but kids needing to maintain their full time status. Boy, I like the way this school operates. S2 is a pretty talented basketball player, having played since grade school all through high school and plays pick up games every day at college, so not exactly a beginner, buy hey beggers can’t be chosers. He is just so happy he can’t stand it. Told me he was going to go shoot some hoops to celebrate and will use the extra time to devote to physics. He doesn’t have any problems with his calc or engineering classes, but isn’t pulling an A in physics at the moment. He was devoting about 90% of his study time to CS so he really must feel like he has a get out jail free card right now.

Sabaray, I read in the other thread how much weight your daughter has lost. It sounds like she is doing fabulously. I hope she has one of those aha feelings on her major. S1 is doing systems engineering and I’m not sure that is as easy to find a job in as the other majors. At least when I look at jobs out there, systems doesn’t pop up as often. It might help her decide by looking at engineering jobs, reading what they do and sort of backing into which majors seems like a fit for the jobs that appeal most to her.

Analyst – I’m so happy for you and your son, and I second the thought that “Is this a great school or what?” with an admin smart enough to have some classes like this start later in the semester.

My d does not keep in touch as much either sometimes my H texts her “Call your Mother” so i dont qualify for momther of the year either, but just because she went to college doesnt mean she left the family. and I am not pushy.
Surgery today, did well shall see how the ensuing days are. check that off the the list.

DTE, here’s wishing you a break soon from all the treatments, and a quick bounceback.

Happy for those of you whose kids are thriving, and I admit to envy for those of you who get more than intermittedent communication!

Historymom, please feel free to ask any questions you have about Marquette…my son is honestly happy there, and contrary to the UC’s or CSU’s, I haven’t seen any issues with resources at the school. Of course, his scholarship (for a non-scholar!) made the cost equal and paybacks great.

Cheers to CC and the guidance to cast a broad net outside of the coasts!

Yesterday I got a text from my older D25 who said she was watching reruns of Gilmore Girls, thought of us and just wanted to say how much she loved me. VERY nice moment in an otherwise not so nice day.

DTE- take care of yourself. We are all wishing you a very speedy recovery.

Gilmore Girls ! We shared that too. So sad the way it went off the air. Like the virtual tour bus. it seemed so real. (I’m still holding out for the bus) My D2 is so upset about Phil on the deadliest catch. funny how certain shows can bond you .

We loved Gilmour Girls too, even H! We keep seeing the commercials for the new NBC series, Parenthood, and wondering what Lorelai Gilmour is doing there, pretending to be the mother of those two kids who aren’t Rory!!

I also got a sweet text from D this week: “I’m out with “BF” and You’re No Good by Linda Ronstadt just came on and I told him that was from the album of my childhood. Thanks for exposing me to great music! Love you.”

cute PJR
LOVED Gilmore girls. I thought Rory was such a bad actress when she started that she was sweet. Now she has improved SO much that, yep, it feels like I was part of raising her :).
The stars must be aligned today–things are going smoothly and positive in my direction.
Oh–those of you who recommended Modern Family and In the Middle–they are fun! I esp. love In the Middle’s D. The house is super good.

I too am looking forward to Parenthood. Loved the movie and was glad to see the names behind it and on it. Hoping for good things!

Sent son a card about bucking up when disappointment happens and that I believe in him. He actually texted thank you! So I send him packages laden with goodies and I hear nothin, but a simple card signed I love you, Mom. Well… it kind of tells me what’s most important to him and confirms my belief that I raised him right.
