All of this sounds very, very familiar. Light bulbs and paper towels- I think our husbands must meet on the weekends to purchase these items en masse.

We also seem to accumulate an unusually large amount of toiletries- I think everytime one of the children went to camp or a trip we would purchase a new one. Heaven forbid they take a partially used container. Then it would return home to take up residence in one of the vanities.

Missypie, a corner of my family room is occupied with son’s “stuff”- the giant refrigerator and microwave he had to have. His room looks like a tornado hit it. Haven’t got the heart to go in. Have to figure out what to do with it all. We also live in a land of no basements.

I am showing my age spent some time downloading Itunes. Anne Murray duets, snowbird, daydream believer, Donna Summer, carole King must be feeling nostalgic. sorry to stray away from your current thread. Ever hear the song “I hate everyone” by get set go pretty funny. ok bye! (I think I’m feeling better)

dte, I am guilty of doing the same thing- spending lots of time on itunes buying “old” music. Helps me exercise. Except lately I have been guilty of buying newer music. Keeps me young I think.

Okay. Shameless excitement here. D just called. Some time back she had taken the online test for College Jeopardy. Just got an email to interview for the show! We had both completely forgotten about it. But much, much excitement in the Sabaray House!

Hey!! I remember when I posted that link and she had already done it! How exciting!!! My mom was on jeopardy once upon a time. She lost. But she was still on!

OK… one more thing H collects is hotel shampoo et.al. I spent today going through our bathroom and throwing out a TON of stuff (seriously expired cold medicine) and ended up with a shoebox full of shampoos, conditioners, body wash and little soaps. I threw out another shoebox worth. Seriously, they were everywhere as if they had been breeding under the sink!

I have heard that is a great show! have fun.
My ipod is so eclectic, from old to new, I am going to see JT and Carole King, and Lady Ga GA (D’s BD). I downloaded the canadian tenors too, I need quiet music to sleep at night, My H snores. LOL. I highly reccomend it. (the tenors not the snoring!!!)

I know I shouldn’t be so excited but this is the best thing that’s happened in a long time. I guess quiz bowl paid off for something (speaking of leadership positions)!

How fun Sabaray…I’m watching Jeapordy as we speak!

I feel so bad for NMD’s roomie. I could almost understand it if the classes were too easy/hard, the boys nerdy/jocky, the weather hot/cold. With this girl though, the issue is alcohol abuse and she’s already been in trouble with it. Speaking of abuse, this whole situation seems abusive to me. Granted, we’re only hearing one side of the story, but geez…

Moda, on the toiletries, grab those hotel samples out of the trash and take them to a shelter! RIGHT ON CF!

One girl at our middle school started a “Showers to Go” project where she organized collection of shampoos, conditioners, little soaps, toothbrushes that dentists give away, small toothpastes, and dental floss, as well as a small can of shaving cream and a couple disposable razors (which they had to buy), and made them available at the homeless shelter, the food pantry, and a couple of other places. I understand they were pretty popular.

I threw out those that were a) dried up they were so old or have evaporated unless they were partly used. I will however, give a huge box away because when I went to move the ones I found to the lower level bath I found another huge box of them! At least half of what I had that was usable I have put with the stuff that is going to get picked up.

Family still living at home should be back any minute now. Unfortunately, D16 has practice tomorrow morning. Yikes.

Speaking of “old” music and concerts – H read the other day that Simon & Garfunkel will be in concert near us in May. We went to one of their concerts during their previous reunion tour. It was great – had to be the most “civilized” concert I’ve been to! Anyway, S&G is one of the very few concerts H would consider going to, so we’re thinking about this one. BUT, tickets are either $180 or $130 – pretty pricey.

sabaray, exciting news on the college jeopardy. I hope she makes it to the next round.

S1 received more info about his upcoming interview, which I find fascinating. The firm is flying out 18 kids from nine colleges (two privates and seven publics). RPI is sending three candidates and Colorado School of Mines is sending another three. Penn State is the winner with five, while most schools, including S’s, just have one. He has a group presentation powerpoint assignment to prepare and there is a presentation by the company that starts at 12:30 am. They catch a bus the next day at 7:30 am. The ability to perform on little sleep is exressly part of what they want to test. I don’t think most college students will have a problem with that. S1’s old boss in Rio has also been in touch and it looks like that will be an option as well.

dte…you “sound” like you have more energy and are feeling better! Hooray! I also bought some oldies for my ipod. Bought the album that had all the #1 hits from Diana Ross and the Supremes, Motown Hits, Carole King, and some Phil Collins. Also bought some current. I just love to listen to music!

Moda…I found 32 bottles of partially used shampoo and conditioner in the girls’ bathroom! I was not happy. I am slowly working my way through them.

sabaray…How exciting! Good Luck to her! D2’s friend also got an interview!

Good Luck to TheAnalyst S with his interview!

TheAnalyst, sounds like things are falling into place for S1. Good news. Interesting format for an interview- will have to share with D so she knows what to potentially expect in the future.

I don’t know what it is with kids and shampoo and the like. If there’s only a bit left, recycle the container! H is the same way. Have to ask- are they 32 different kinds or 32 of the same? I am probably guilty of buying something, deciding I don’t like it but then keeping it for “backup” if I ever run out of the preferred variety. I guess I really can’t criticize too much.

I can’t throw anything away. If I have a longer trip where I won’t be staying at a hotel, I bring the little bottles along and then throw them out as I use them up (ok, I guess I do throw things away eventually). This way I’m not lugging the big bottles with me. My D, on the other hand, insists on bringing the big bottles with her (“but I use a lot of shampoo”) and has to lug them back.

If you for any reason don’t want to send them to the homeless shelter, you can also send stuff to the lakotan(=Sioux) tribes at Rosebud and Pine Ridge. The is a constant and un-abating need on the reserves.
