Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

I have never heard of a car bomb. The heavy duty drink around here is a Long Island Iced Tea. (vodka, tequila, run, gin, triple sec, sweet and sour mix, and a “splash” of coke). I’m a big coke fan.

Analyst, I’m done with work in a bit. I’ll be right over. Should I bring some brie?

I’m thinkin’ chocolate fudge cake.

I adore brie. My favorite cheese by far. And we can finish up with the fudge cake, cream puffs, and those little chocolate bite sized brownies. I definitely think we need a party. I think I will start a list of what I want for mother’s day and throw the diet out the window for a day.

Right - with the brie, before the chocolate, let’s import the freshest possible tropical fruit from Costa Rica - pineapple, mangoes, etc.

Will everyone’s college student be finished with school by Mother’s Day? Aren’t there a few who get out later? I think I’ll have a great mother’s day (even though it’s a holiday that I HATE) because I will wake up with Son under our roof. Since the whole pre-spring break fiasco, I’ve been quite anxious to have him home.

S1 has his last exam on the 13th but plans to come home for Sunday and leave again on Monday. I don’t think he would be making the trip just for mother’s day, but I need him to boot up his new laptop to make sure it works and doesn’t need any troubleshooting. His brother will get home Saturday night so we will all be together for mother’s day. S2 goes back the following Saturday to start summer school on the 17th.

Unfortunately, D will not be done until the 13th; she won’t even be coming home. We’re going over Friday to pack up; she’s staying and leaving for the beach Saturday.

my d doesn’t finish til May 21, will pick her up to go to a wedding (my oldest friend’s daughter–an hour from her college) then will drive back to her school next day to pack her dorm up. my s will fly home on the 24th. maybe I’m weird, but I am so looking forward to all being home this summer. with all the tragedies and difficulties around all of us, it seems like a blessing just to know your child will be coming home…

Happy Anniversary everyone.

Congrats to your D arabrab! That is quite an accomplishment!

Going to go read the Java article now. I can’t tell you whether or not S understands the course he is taking. But I can tell you he did not do well in it the way this teacher taught it. And he is not the only one to complain about this teacher. I agree that the ones who truly do not understand should be weeded out - of ANY course of study.

But one does not at all need a CS degree to be in the industry. Just ask my H who has a PhD in population ecology from Yale and who was head-hunted and hired way back when by a top software company. He can’t program much at all, but he has the math mind they wanted. Just meaning - programming does not a computer scientist make

::runs in from another driving adventure with D16::

did I miss happy hour?! I am definitely in need of a drink. I’ve never heard of a car bomb - it’s just amazing what I’ve learned on this thread :D

So I just got a Mother’s Day card from D. Prior to this card, all Mother’s day cards have been purchased by H for the kids to sign. Here is what it says:

Dear Mom,
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!! I hope you have a wonderful day filled with happiness and bossing Dad around! You are the best Mom EVER! I know this because I have met every mother in the history of the world: true fact! You have been supportive, energetic, understanding and organized, even when I wasn’t. You can’t even imagine how much I appreciate you and everything you’ve done for me. This year’s transition was so much easier knowing that I have you there, always just a phone call away. Just know that you (and Dad, of course) made me the awesome person I am! So, moral of the card, have a HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
Love,
D

She actually used neat handwriting, instead of her usual third grade boy penmanship.
I guess she really does appreciate all that her parents do for her. Best Mother’s Day gift ever!!!

wow, that is awesome!

Our three kids all went to the same preschool, so every mother’s day for years I’d get the pre-school’s fill in the blank mother’s day card project from whatever kid was at the preschool.

“My mother’s favorite food is __."
"My mother’s favorite thing to do is
.”

Each kid filled the card in the same way every year:

“My mother’s favorite food is salad.”
“My mother’s favorite thing to do is go to work.”

At the time I hardly ever ate salad, so I can only assume that was a teacher suggestion. As for my favorite thing to do being going to work…way to make a working mom feel awful.

Oh em, that is fantastic!

S’s flight is in the air Somewhere over Vermont right now

emg, that is such a wonderful card. Thank you for sharing. Missypie, someone else’s preschool had something similar and the child wrote, my mother’s favorite thing is her Blackberry. (Wasn’t one of my kids, I swear.)

emg, I love that card. I’m on pins and needles wondering if D will actually send a card. Exams started today so she gets a pass if the card doesn’t happen. And Sunday is phonecall day, so I should at least get some acknowledgement. It’s a kind of non-event this year with D away. I don’t think my H needs to bother – seriously, I’m not his mother. And I wish so much I could celebrate with my own mom, who has been gone 2 years now. There’s a special memorial section for her at the community garden where she was very active so if it’s a nice day, I might go pay her butterflies and rosebush a visit.

oh, bblfraser, I’ll be doing something similar. Mother’s Day is so hard when your mom is gone, isn’t it? I’ve barely thought about what it will be like without D1 here this year. I would just love to get a card like the one you got, emg.

Ok…you are all making me nervous…for the first time in 22 years neither of my girls are supposed to be here. We will see if any surprise visits happen!

H wants me to go to the lake to celebrate with his M. Ahhhhh…you go ahead and celebrate…I’ll go shopping, have a glass of wine, read a book, and soak in the hot tub!

Great news Em! Sounds like a plan Northminn!

Well, I am fortunate to have my mother still with me. H usually prepares something delicious for brunch which is nice. Definitely won’t be a diet day for me.
