Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

missypie I hope God gives you guys the thing that is right for your son. He is bright and deserving and you guys have been through so much this year.

Very sorry to hear about the tornado damage. We had a tornado scare on Sunday, but fortunately it didn’t amount to anything. Tonight, however, it was a lovely cool evening and I could have sat all night by a candle on the porch. Nights like these are to be treasured.

Never fear, no explosions at the Egg house. Oven heats and turns on and off. Ran the self cleaner. Re-installed the pull-out unit in the cabinet below and H even replaced the shef paper.

We decided to wait until the weekend to bake something. Mmmm, I’m thinking about cookies. Apparenty, I am in charge of that.

Meanwhile, DH cooked dinner on the new stove tonight: porkchops with rum raisin sauce and pesto seasoned pasta. Yum.

I did the dishes.

eggmom – you and eggdad can come to my house any time to cook and clean up! My H manages to serve himself dessert and that’s about it. If I’m not not home he doesn’t starve, but there’s not a whole lot of real cooking going on.

Re: grading on a a curve – D has never attended a school that does that, either HS or college. Whatever grade you get is your grade. S’s HS didn’t grade on a curve, but he was thrilled to get to WPI where they do. It probably helped him in a couple of courses this year. OTOH, WPI also doesn’t give + or - with a grade, so that probably hurt him in a couple of cases.

H and I are going mattress shopping today. I can’t wait to get rid of the one we have now. What drives me nuts about all the mattresses these days is how thick they are. I’m not a weakling, but trying to lift a corner to get the sheet on is a struggle.

and don’t try to compare prices from store to store either CBBBlinker! No two stores have the same brand and model number!

Our HS baseball team’s pitcher has signed to play with Rice. Then he was drafted 8th round by a pro team. He was quoted in the paper as saying that he’ll only sign with the pros if they offer $1-2 million. That would be a pretty nice choice for an 18 year old, huh? Rice or $2 million.

Hey…really had to hunt for the thread! Not very chatty today.

me too, NM! just got home from 8-hour round trip taking D to her summer camp job. she was only home for 3 weeks and I spent too much of it frustrated b/c she wasn’t unpacking, wasn’t doing laundry, was spending HOURS skyping with her BF, etc.

but the good news is she got herself entirely packed for camp, we left almost on time, and she left her room… well, not clean exactly, but not a complete disaster. I think I keep expecting great leaps of EDM, but it comes in small doses. and if I’m too busy criticizing or being frustrated, I might miss the signs. lesson learned. and now I miss her :(

CCCBlinker, hope the mattress shopping was fun and fruitful ;)

eggmom, I am beyond impressed with your husband - both the oven installation and the cooking. okay, I’m more than impressed - I’m jealous!!

I love my temperpedic.
H’s cousin had that choice years ago. he is retired a gazillionaire and will be elcted to the Hall of fame probably. He can try out the minors and see what happens. Rice isnt too bad an option either!

PRJ - I just came back from the airport to retrieve my daughter from college! She just came home, I couldn’t imagine her leaving now for summer camp. Of course she hasn’t stopped talking since she got off the plane so maybe in another day or two I’ll be ready for her to leave for a little while.

We got memory foam toppers for ShawSon’s school mattress and for our bed and now we’ve gotten them for every bed.

I spent hours researching mattresses one year (about five years ago) and unfortunately have forgotten everything I learned. But the end result was we bought a stupidly expensive mattress and I ended up not liking it, so it sits on S2’s bed. S1 also sleeps on it whenever he can. That mattress is everybody’s favorite but mine.

I talked to both S1 and S2 yesterday (S1 likes to Skype about 10:00 pm his time which is 8:00 am my time) and S2 called about 9:00 pm. The upshot of both of those conversations is that nothing much seems to be happening with either one. S2 wanted to buy some gruyere cheese but didn’t know the name of it. S1 says work is going well, but he had more luck with the girls in Rio than in Brisbane (not exactly a surprising find).

I have to give a speech this afternoon, so have to leave my nice quiet office.

Yesterday’s trip to the 2 local mattress stores resulted in H saying he’d rather shop for a new car than a mattress! I think we’ve narrowed it down, but we have to think it over for a couple of days. I’m tempted by the Tempurpedic, but H doesn’t think he’d like it. They’re also pretty pricey.

Yes, it has been quiet and uneventful which is a good thing. D seems to be enjoying the work she is doing and her class will start on Monday. Yesterday’s discussion- “books are expensive!”; yes, they are. Happily she received a grant towards the purchase of books last term- you just filled out an app and they chose individuals based upon GPA to determine the amount you were eligible for and she received the top amount which covered her book for the summer. She was thinking of buying it from a friend but I asked why would you pay cash when you have this gift card to the bookstore? Save the cash for other expenses instead of the super-expensive bookstore.

Crazy week. Yesterday was our 31st wedding anniversary but didn’t get to celebrate due to H’s work issues. Garage door broke with my car stuck inside. D2’s AP credits aren’t showing up on her transfer school evaluation and she won’t call to find out why. Have had many discussions and had to give her an ultimatum. Will see if she follows through today. Had Chinese last night and my eyes are puffy…ish! Guess I am a little crabby today!

If the old mattress isn’t truly “done” one of the “comfort top” mattress covers can make a huge difference at half the price (or less) of a new mattress…

You know, NM, I think our children move at a different speed. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “I’m taking care of it.” Yes, it gets done, but I just don’t get why it has to wait until the last minute.

One thought re: the AP credits- do they need to be sent to an AP coordinator for approval? At D’s school they translate the credits into “equivalent” courses at the institution. Perhaps that’s the case here?

What a day! It’s 2 pm and I’m exhausted. Went at 8 am to get younger D’s luggage from cheer camp; she was going straight to the airport for choir tour, so I had to move toiletries and a few other things from one suitcase to another. Watched the cheer teams compete for a few hours (D’s team swept)l including a stint outside. Left there and fetched older D to take her to the airport for drill team officer camp. H was right behind, taking younger D to a different terminal. Now I am at work and am too tired to do anything. Can I just close my door and pretend I’m not here?

Daughter came home less than 24 hours ago and is bored already. Did she call any friends? No. Unpack any suitcases? No. She did finish her last paper this morning, 7 minutes before it was due so I guess that’s something. She’s also is complaining that I’m going to make her unpack her eight boxes when they are delivered - you think? I’m giving her two weeks, which is when she leaves for a long weekend trip, after that those boxes are mine! I’ll be good today and tomorrow so she can readjust but then she needs to get with the program!

Okay, done venting!

Missypie, you get my vote for awesome mom. Wow.
