Moda, that’s awesome. Congrats to D & her teammates.

It’s 10:25AM NY time and my daughter is still asleep. Do I wake her in attempts to get her back to “home” time or do I leave her sleep, giving her a few more days to acclimate? Why do I even care?

HELP!!!

amtc, our teens/young adults’ Circadian rhythms are different. ShawSon would naturally sleep til 11 AM or noon and work until 4 AM. The melatonin gets released in their bodies to induce sleepiness significantly later in the day for kids that age. It is not inherently sloth (though one can not rule out sloth also). So, I wouldn’t worry about it at all unless she needs to get on an earlier schedule for a job.

Given ShawSon’s work this summer (he and his coauthor are going to push to get a full revision of their novel to a couple of agents and publishers that have expressed interest, whatever schedule works for him and his coauthor (who is an adult) works for me. But, if he had an internship/job downtown, I’d make sure he was transitioning toward adult time.

I have to say that 11:00 AM is my limit for letting D & S sleep in, but both are usually up at least by then. Neither has started their summer job yet, but I know they’ll get up in time with no problem when they do. It does annoy me a little that they sleep so late – I guess since I’m an early bird – but I just let it go.

D is generally up by 9:30; son would sleep through an earthquake if I let him. He has been very good about getting up for his summer job, however. Relief all the way around.

Oh amtc - you are living my life of the last few weeks!! Ifinally decided to let it go b/c I knew she’d be getting up at 7:30 every day all summer at camp, and because in the few short weeks that she was home I didn’t want to fight every day.

And Moda - congrats!! Your telling made a great story even better!

Wow, moda, congratulations on the state championship!

Remember how most of our kids received non-stop mail from Washington U in St. Louis? Well '11 D has received nothing from Wash U, but receives almost daily email and snail mail from University of Chicago. The emails all say “based on your strong ACT scores” but hers was only 28 and I know she wouldn’t be admitted there. I guess Chicago is the new Wash U.

Moda – congratulations. That will really be a game she’ll remember forever.

Thanks for all the congrats…she is still on cloud nine. My video, on the other hand, is under complete revision. Honestly? We were playing a goliath of a school which was heavily favored… and so I had it in my mind that I would culminate with the sections win and then just do a photo montage of the State Championships. Well obviously you can’t just blow through that part now but you still need to make sure that everyone on the team is represented… so I will be MIA until I get the thing done. If I show up here too much I will have to call it procrastination of the highest order!!

Moda…those two schools have a long history of battling it out with LAX. The little school is the giant slayer! ;)

Moda, congrats on the lacrosse game. Sounds fun. I miss the tournament week-ends.

We leave for Yellowstone tomorrow for a week. I’m sure H will hike me into the ground so I am only mildly enthusiastic about this trip.

At least it’s a trip, Analyst! What I wouldn’t give for a bit of a vacation.

Son turns 21 today. Everyday I am reminded that he is getting stronger and stronger and just generally a better person to be around. I know he is lonely and hopefully when he starts classes in August he’ll be able to meet some people he wants to spend time with. On my way to pick up D today; she’ll be commuting to class for a week. This ought to be interesting.

Graduation for our high school is today. Bit of nostalgia for me, but not much.

Happy B-day to Sabaray S! I’m so happy for you in the progress he has made. Best wishes for even more of the same.

Thanks, woody!

I was also going to mention that I have raced through Girl with the Dragon Tattoo- absolutely loved it! So I went out and bought Girl who Played with Fire. At first I couldn’t figure out why people liked this book so much…then I couldn’t put it down. Thanks for the recommendation from all.

I’m still in the middle of Dragon Tattoo. I read about a page on my kindle and the sleep gods take over…start all over again the next night.

sabarary, wish your S happy birthday for me. It sounds like he is doing well and will find his niche soon.

S1 had the same reaction on The Girl–kind of confused at first and then really enjoyed it. He has also finished the second. I haven’t bought the third yet; last I looked it wasn’t out in paperback yet. I will head to the library shortly to pick up books for the vacation.

I haven’t bought the third “Girl” book yet. It’s still something like $18 at Walmart. I’m hoping that Amazon and Walmart get into one of thsoe pricing wars that will drastically reduce the price…

I stayed up until 2:30 am the day The Girl arrived at our house. I couldn’t put any of the three Girl books down.

I guess I’ll have to get that “girl With The Dragon Tattoo” book. I have resisted so far, but keep hearing how good it is. Had the same negative initial reaction both with “Harry Potter” and “The Kite Runner” and ended up loving both.
