Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

I dropped my son at the airport today. I feel sad. I hope the World Cup will keep my spirit up in the next couple days.

Happy Birthday to SabaraySon!!

Coolweather-did you watch the USA/England game today??

I am still giggling at dd16’s opening line to me in her conversation about why she needs a car…“Mom, this summer I need to be away from home as much as possible.”

50/40 - That cracked me up!

50ist - Yes, I watched the entire game. It’s was intense.
I just set up my alarm to watch the 4:00 AM game tomorrow.
Then I look forward to the Germany-Australia game at 11:00 AM.

Here is the TV schedule:

[ESPN’s World Cup 2010 TV Schedule - World Cup Blog](http://www.worldcupblog.org/world-cup-2010/espns-world-cup-2010-tv-schedule.html)

Soccer fest at our house, too!

We’re hooked on the World Cup here too, but enough with the vuvusulas!

A lot of anxiety at Egghouse this weekend. Eggniece (19) is studying abroad this summer and has been in Asia for less than 2 weeks. She had an episode of severe vomiting and ended up in the hospital. In addition to her host family and the program supervisor, one of her mother’s best friends is nearby, so there are many looking after her. But she has been in hospital for 2 days with no diagnosis yet.

Her mom (my SIL) was ready to jump on a plane, but is trying to get more information before ending a trip that her daughter dreamed for.

An initial report was that her liver enzymes are all elevated. Our amateur diagnosis targets raw seafood, but this is based only on specuation by our non-medical family members.

We dont know what will happen next, but if she is not better soon, I suspect mom will go get her and bring her home.

How quickly things can change from wonderful to scary.

Very scary eggmom. Sending good thoughts to your family, especially your SIL and niece.

Not nearly as serious here, but D2’s youth group weekend trip to NYC ended with a canceled return flight. they were diverted to DC and then sent to a hotel - they won’t be home until tomorrow AM. I’m thinking a spa gift certificate might be in order for the rabbi who took 10 teens on this trip. She got more excitement than she bargained for!

Gosh, that’s frightening eggmom. Here’s hoping for good news.
Well, woodyS returned form his weekend trip with no further run-ins with the law. He had 24 bottles of Sam Adams in his backseat and declared it at the border. Apparently, the Canadian border patrol was not really interested…
woodyD came back from visiting her college BF. I’m really sorry that I asked about the sleeping arrangements. She’s off for her drug test and background check before starting her internship this AM. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for no surprises there.
Is it August yet?

woody, I hear you.

D is staying at home this week- unfortunately her class started five days before her lease did. She has very, very limited experience with interstate driving so the plan was for her to get some experience by driving me to work (30 miles down the road) then continuing on to school alone (another 30 miles down the road). Today I rode all the way with her and went back to work and will pick her up today when she’s done with work. I have reminded myself that day one is over.

I think we had an equivalent of shawbridge’s kerfuffle at his home a few weeks back- only darling H was the one jumping all over the kids. Both of them, to be precise. I’m going to commission a martyr medal for him. I never knew that having the responsibility for cooking a dinner that I mostly prepared was going to be such an ordeal!

Ah. I do love my family.

eggmom…that would be a nightmare for me! Hoping she feels better soon!

woody…I am trying to practice the art of “Don’t ask, don’t tell” around here. ;)

sabaray…with all the driving D2 did going back and forth from her school to home we thought her driving would improve…in reality it hasn’t improved at all!

Shawbridge, I’m a day late, but in my personal opinion, every day in Montreal is the Grand Prix…just unofficial  Montreal is the reason to this date that I do not ride on motorcycles, after a memorable trip at age 18 up to the Laurentians via heavily trafficked Montreal highways. So you’re a hero in my book for doing the drive. Hope it was smooth for you.

Re: Girl/Tattoo series…FYI you can get the hardcover at Amazon for $11 if you buy all three in a package. I’m on Hornet’s Nest now and loving it. Sad part is that I know there are no more (except the unfinished fourth that’s in estate-contesting-nightmare).

Spent weekend with McSon at Saugatuck film festival, since same is a serious interest of his. Very rewarding to watch him learning how to network and make connections; he met some great guys more than willing to help out a student wanting access to the production market. What was surprising to me was how few film students were actually at the networking and information meetings. McSon is not even a film major (but will be taking tech editing along with his sound editing and scoring classes). And he seemed to be one of three, and all three were from his university. Didn’t meet a soul from any other program in the state, and yet our state has recently introduced 42% tax credits and as such is attracting some major projects.
I can’t quite work out why other universities didn’t find ways to participate or have students participate. But maybe they were just there an not engaging. Just surprising to me.

KM, If I had known how much I’d like the Girl books, I definitely would have bought them in a package. Ah well.

D is happy; knows someone she LIKES in her class so that will be good. Only 35 of them and a reputably good prof. 1/3 of the class gets an A, so that’s promising as well.

NM, I wouldn’t say D’s driving was bad, but she is just a relatively inexperienced driver for her age. And I’m generally a pretty nervous person. That may be the understatement of the year according to my family.

Girl/Tattoo books: I read the second book on my Kindle and was so in to the ending that I immediately downloaded Hornet’s nest and just kept reading! Loved it!

sabaray…D2’s driving just isn’t “smooth” or instinctual. She is very cautious and just seems nervous while she drives. Can’t say she’s really bad…just makes me uncomfortable.

I am sooooo tired of the cool rainy weather. What happened to summer?!?! Haven’t been interested in heading to the lake because there is no sun.

It came to Virginia. It was over 90 with very high humidity yesterday. I like to read on our back patio- couldn’t do it yesterday. Was like being in a sauna. Unbelievable. Our lab has spent most of his time exposing his belly to the air conditioning vents.

NM, I think our daughters must have gone to the same driving school. Ah well. In time they will become smooth and instinctual drivers. In time.

A little late chiming in here, but congratulations to Modadunn on the lacrosse championship! It must have been so much fun to be there. I love watching interscholastic sports - even when I don’t know the players. Around here we are cheering the Celtics on! Oh, and D2 starts drivers ed tonight. I’m afraid we are entering a period of prolonged nailbiting.

Best wishes to Eggniece on a speedy diagnosis and recovery!

Still waiting for D2 to return home after her freshman year–she won’t be home until Saturday. She stopped at D1’s place on the way home from college and the two of them are in the midst of a sister road trip, driving from MN to New Orleans and back. Hanging onto the edge of my seat but exhibiting outward calm…

yes good wishes for eggneice and My D2 drives like NM D. D2 has been running to the mailbox looking for her grades, oh I pray they are ok!!!

Just returned from older daughter’s college graduation - how quickly the time went!

Heard from Son’s dermatologist today. I had sent him there because his acne was worse, and the doctor biopsied a mole that S has had all his life. Turns out it has severe abnormalities and will have to be cut out. Scared, but relieved it was caught just in time.

Oh, fireflyscout! Thank heavens it was found early! Sending thankful and healing prayers and thoughts your way.
