BTW the unit at Childrens hospital that I work in will be featured on boston Med tomorrow night. this is what I am told (still on leave)

That will be exciting, downtoearth! Did they film in your actual hospital? (I’m not familiar with the show.)

Road trip sounds great-would a little detour to Southern California be okay? I don’t know if I should bring my fancy panini grill…I use one skillet, with another skillet on top, and a brick to weigh it down!

just checking in with hugs for Sabaray. {{{{Hugs}}}

Convinced S to make a road trip with me to visit my brother the other day and we had a good time singing along to a CD by his Glee mates and talking about his role next year as the person to plan orientation events for Glee Club’s freshmen. He is psyched about it and has found his social niche. I am glad he feels a part of something there.

I can’t help but wish he looked as forward to his classes there, but I guess that is a lot to expect. He is majoring in math, but confided in me that he had a great time in the Game Design class, staying up til 4 am and debugging a game that they would present. I asked him why he did not stay in the program, and as near as I can tell, he felt it would limit his ability to focus on math and his ultimate goal of Artificial Intelligence.

He also did not see himself as like the other kids who were/are committed to being in the game industry although he loved the team-work and being the math-guy and working on the algorithims for the game. This program is very focused on the industry and he did not want to take the space that someone committed to the industry could take and did not want to limit his options for study there.

All this he explained to me on this road trip. I told him I hope he can get involved with a team and work on some more hands on projects that use the math he can produce so he can feel excited about the academics as much as the music and glee comrades he’s involved with. I still feel he is wandering a little aimlessly, and not sure how to do, there, what he wants to do. Hopefully, since he loves being there so much, he will take his academics seriously enough to stay there. I really do feel as soon as he finds his focus he will shine, but focusing may take him a while…

Heading North for the remainder of the summer soon and will not be on the internet, so have great summers, all.

I’ll check back in in the fall.

TM, Hope you have a a great time this summer. Teamwork can make a real difference in enjoying what you’re doing- at least that’s what I noticed with D. I hope she has more enthusiasm for her courses this year as well- still don’t know what her major is and the way things are going I’ll probably be the last one to find out.

DTE, I am really looking forward to Boston Med! I loved Hopkins when that was on- and so exciting that your unit is going to be on. And congrats to D2 on the license. Big step towards independence.

Hot, muggy and sticky in VA. H has the week off so has been doing yardwork and neglected household chores for me- it has been wonderful. Came home and he had even prepared dinner.

Don’t know if anyone will be in NYC in the next few weeks but if you are and can get tickets, you must go see “Fences” on Broadway. We saw it last night and it could be the best show I’ve ever seen in 40+ years of going to Broadway shows!

The acting is beyond superb, the material rich, the set amazing, can’t say enough about it. Even if you have to get single seats, which is sometimes easier to get, you should go.

Wish I could do a Broadway trip every year!

We toured University of Oklahoma yesterday. Despite the WorstCampus Campus Tour Guide Ever, D really liked the school…but she thinks it’s too close to home. Everyone on the tour was from Texas. D immediately recognized two girls on the tour as being from a rival team, so I was instructed not to talk to them!

theorymom, the teamwork experiences will serve him well when it comes time for job interviews and the working world, too. It’s important to be able to both fill a niche and be an effective part of the team. Sounds like he is developing some solid people skills!

TM – #TS could find himself in high demand on IQP & MQP projects as a “go to” math person. The project work is such a huge part of the WPI experience – and a great segue into the real work world. Have fun up north. Not sure I could go that long without internet … :)

Getting ready to head out for a market research appointment. I think it is about cereal based on the pre-interview questions. I am the one who gets paid to sit and read a book in case someone doesn’t show. Downloaded a new book on my Kindle so I hope everyone shows up!

S2 says he is still limping, realizes he will have some major scars, and doesn’t yet have all the feeling back in his leg—but of course is unwilling to go to health services. It must be a boy thing. We have reservations to go camping over the fourth of July, but I am going to talk to H about going to visit S instead to make sure he really doesn’t need to see a doctor.

His housemate doesn’t have any second session summer school so he will have the house to himself, which he is looking forward to. S2 has major complaints about his friend’s willingness to do dishes, take out trash, vacuum, etc. S2 says the roommate believes a new trash bag just “magically” appears when the trash is full. I have to laugh because my boys always gave me that same impression when living at home. But apparently S2 understands that he is in charge now and he likes a clean, neat house. For years, we had cleaning ladies and everybody had to pick up for them once a week. Then we didn’t have the money and I became the cleaning lady, but the routine didn’t change. The boys had to have every surface (floor, bed, and dressers) of their bedrooms empty of all clutter once a week so I could clean. I hand wash pots before we even sit down to dinner and make sure the dishwasher is empty so all dishes after dinner can immediately go in the dishwasher. We did let them leave their beds unmade and rooms a mess on an “intra-week” basis, but no shoes, backpacks or clutter could be left in a common area of the house. I will say S1 seemed to live like a slob in college, but it sounds like S2 doesn’t want to follow suit. Luckily, S1 has daily maid service now since he is living in a hotel.

TM, your S’s gift for math will give him multiple career options regardless of his major. It sounds like he is going great.

Missy – too funny. As if without that warning you’d have invited them to a sleep-over or something?

Big plugs for that show DTE on GMA this morning. Looks really quite interesting.

H&S left this morning with our niece to head to brother in law who will put said niece and nephew on his work crew for a few weeks. Hate to admit it, but I am glad son will be worked like a dog with no friends around for a few weeks. He has been spending far too much time hanging out with his friends and playing daddy warbucks for a guy who wasn’t even buying his own gas! He has been mostly MIA sleeping until about now every morning and staying out way too late at night. It’s not that I wish to deny him his fun, but that he thinks he doesn’t need to be accountable and good grades make up for every other misdeed was getting under my skin in a big way. So… he’ll be back in a month. D starts the camp/tournament month on Saturday - she is home for something like 8 days the entire month. She is already wondering what she is going to do in August because it will be so boring. I need to recover from the financial outlay thank you very much.

Yesterday - cloudy and not too hot here - I ended up trimming trees and some huge bushes the line our back berm. I filled our entire lawn recyclable container, two other garbage cans and still have a pile. Of course, I can barely move my arms to type this today. I feel like I need a stretching machine.

Last day of college tour #1. Fayetteville Arkansas is the cutest college town we’ve seen. But the campus is not attractive. I’m still hoping she’ll love the business school and honors college because it would cost even less than Texas in state…can’t blame a mom for wishing.

Between college visit weeks for D, on Tuesday we visit the school with the autism program with Son on Tuesday. Yesterday Son was on his own to get up for 10 am summer school class…and didn’t. JEEZ! Maybe we really should get one of those atomic alarm clocks or whatever they’re called.

Quick note as am heading out to a meeting, but yes, I’ll upgrade the generator so we can average a blender for every 1.5 people and since we’re headed east, let’s take a stop on Broadway!!!
: ) K

I’m in for the bus tour…I haven’t had any alcohol during this road trip since I’m driving all the time…a nice variety of wine would be nice. Let’s spend about 5 days iin NYC seeing shows and shopping…of ocure, What Not to Wear will issue us each one of their $5000 Visa cards.

I’m definitely a candidate for the What Not to Wear folks! I want Clinton and Stacy to shop with me. kmc, you’re in charge of the margaritas; I’ll bring wine. Someone’s bringing nachos. Brie?

I’ll bring the Brie! Shopping spree and shows in NYC? Definitely count me in.

I’m in and will bring dessert.

Let’s throw in a ride in the “Cash Cab” while we are in NYC.

Just ordered grad pictures for D1. They offered an individual portrait and then one receiving the diploma. Can’t believe it is done! The wedding planning is time consuming right now. Still trying to stay on budget with florist and photographer, haven’t found ceremony musicians or reception DJ. H is crazed with upcoming strike and D2 is having more fun than working. I really do need a bus road trip!

NMN - sounds like a headache and a blast all in one swoop! Sorry about the strike issues, but thought i read somewhere that they were making progress. Truth is, i don’t really understand the underlying issues when so many people don’t even have jobs these days. But as I said, I havent really read the details.

I would love love love to spend a week in NYC going to broadway shows, eating great food and just walking around taking in the sights and sounds of the place. I love it there but would also need a fashion intervention. Heck, I need an intervention regardless!!

D leaves for Tournament tomorrow and that means I am home alone until about Weds when H will return from his trip both out east and for business. I will take on a project and see if I can get it done before his return. Really what I want is one of those dumpsters they drop off at your house where it allows you to purge the crap you just don’t want. My only problem with that is I know there has to be more responsible ways to get rid of things. And a garage sale is just simply too much work for the effort. But my gawd we accumulate a lot of crap in 17 years of living in one place.

S had three (3!) moles surgically removed from his head yesterday. All were pretty large, about 2/3 the size of a dime. He is now sporting the latest in hairstyles - the quarterhawk! He was actually considering getting a full mohawk until he realized his bosses at Macy’s probably wouldn’t approve.

So if you have to send your kid to the dermatologist for acne or whatever, make sure the doctor does a thorough mole check. None of S’s moles were cancerous -yet - but did have severe or moderate abnormalities.
