Great news, fireflyscout!

Wow Good warning FFS. And good news that these were found and found to be NC.

Have a good summer all. I’ll be on my own literal road trip, heading North and East - should be on the road a week in the one direction, then at the cabin for a little more than a month, get S sent off to school via the Toronto airport, then a long road trip home.

Talk to you all then.

TM – hope all goes well.

So, the bride (D1) is in town. We are finishing a few details. Wedding is two weeks from tomorrow.

I have learned just to shut up; if she wants that color, so be it; if she doesn’t want X, we won’t have X … And thus bridezilla is averted and avoided …

Hey, is there room for one more on the road trip? Broadway shows and NYC/the Laurentians - they all sound great! I’ll bring a big bowl of fruit salad. Is the fashion makeover a prerequisite for the trip? There’s pretty slim pickings for clothes around here (and in my closet).

dte - I’m sorry to have missed the show on Children’s Hospital. Will it be be replayed? About Children’s, my father sculpted a bronze head of Dr. H. Hendren that’s in some room at Children’s - not sure where. My father has passed away, but we enjoy knowing that he left behind some heads he sculpted over the years (as an amateur artist).

Wise woman, Zetisis! I spent all day making custom labels for D1’s fiance to put on beer and root beer bottles to ask his friends to be in the wedding party. D1 is freaking out and pouting because she can’t figure out how to size them to print. Of course I told her to take a flashdrive to Kinkos or someplace but no…so she is crabby and says she won’t do them because they are taking up too much of her time! Grrr…what did she think I was doing!!! Not fiance’s fault…he is at work.

Wow, NM! D is having exactly one attendant – her sister. For that and other reasons – mainly that D1 was out of town most of the time and happy to leave decisions to me – ours has been an easy wedding to coordinate/plan. And putting things in the hands of competent professionals who have done this many times before has much to commend it!

I am calling the dermatologist on Monday. I recently found a mole on my head kinda where my part is, but not quite. I originally though it was a bug bite, but H says nope. And so I had to use two mirrors to get a good enough angle – and really what I needed was a super pair of bifocals with the huge magnifying mirror (and not that it was small, but that I am seriously going blind).

Huge storms here now… waiting for the siren to tell me to go to the basement.

Huge wedding tip NMN – my cousin is getting married in boston. I went on their wedding website a couple of weeks ago to see if it would have hotel info etc. And then tried to make reservations at the hotel only to find the entire place booked. They apparently failed to reserve any kind of block of rooms for wedding guests. Today I got the official invitation and there was nothing to say a block of rooms was reserved. So… if you’re expecting a lot of folks from out of town, call the hotel to block off a bunch of rooms. When I got married in town here, all of our guests stay at the St. Paul Hotel downtown St Paul where my grandmother then hosted a brunch the morning of the wedding. Anyway… that was a big misstep on their part because they are getting married near Salem I guess and I can just imagine that every hotel in the area will be booked with tourists. Thing is… not one member of our family lives out east anymore so this will be a problem for our entire family.

Well, after 2 weeks of her internship, D is quite pleased with the work she is doing, half internship stuff, half adolescent child care. It’s reminding me of a cross between the Nanny Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada. One of her duties involved escorting said child into NYC via the commuter train where D had to drop her off at some enormous Fifth Ave apartment.
This woman is throwing cash at D who quite unexpectedly got a check in the mail for the data base thing she is doing remotely. She is cleaning up so far. But everyone is very nice and happy, so, it’s all good!

Woody, sounds like everything is going well, then. That’s great. And I love The Devil Wears Prada!

Got some unexpected good news last evening in that I have been offered a new position which is actually appealing! I need to do some number crunching and that type of thing but it’s looking good to this point. Huge weight off my shoulders after an incredibly bad week at work.

All kinds of news! It was hard to keep up on the road because the internet connections were pretty slow.

Home from road trip. I *guess *the house and landscaping could have been in worse shape…but I can tell (after being away for six days) that if something were to happen to me, our house and yard would look like a cross between *The Munsters *and *My Name is Earl *within a month.

Washing machine just broke…a house full lof laundry and no washing machine.

Ugh! I’m doing twice as much laundry these days: it’s so hot and sticky, we’re constantly needing to refresh. If you need a new one, I’ve been very happy with my Sears frontloader for many years – it does just as good a job as my high-end frontloader I had in my old house. I hope yours is fixable though. Good luck!

Talk about a nightmare!!! I’m OK (for a time) with no dishwasher, but the washing machine is crucial.

missypie, it sounds like you need that trip to the Laurentians!

Hey Sabaray! That’s great news - I hope the numbers work out for you!
Oh Missypie - I know what you mean…The in-laws are arriving in about 2 hours. The weeds are literally hip-high and there’s a toilet in the yard.
On the good news front: H is finally home long enough to work on the the toilet that was clogged about 2 weeks. Anybody want to guess what the clog is?? D’s cell phone! It went missing about 2 weeks ago…

What’s with the appliance meltdown? Eggson called me at work Thursday to tell me that our dryer was broken. Won’t turn on or spin. He had a load of wet clothes and I guess he wanted to know what I was going to do about it.

I told him to string a clothesline on the poles in the back yard and hang them up. This son who has done wilderness treks and camped more than 200 nights over the past years told me he didnt want to put his clean clothes outside because the “bugs and squirrels would climb on them.” He ended up stringing a clothesline up in the house. Charming decor.

Eggdad, our Mr Fixit, returned from his camping trip last night and I am pretty sure he will figure out how to fix the dryer.

We always buy Maytag washer and dryer and we always buy used. The set we have now are at least 20 years old and we bought them 10 years ago. They are reliable and DH says they are easy to work on because the design and mechanics don’t change a lot over the years.

Let’s hope the blenders stay healthy and the margaritas keep flowing.

Sorry woody, but I am laughing about the cell phone even though I know it’s not funny for you.

missypie-I hope you get the washer fixed soon. I’ve been there and it’s awful. Especially when you have just returned with luggage filled with dirty laundry.

Moda- glad you are calling the dermatologist. This thread has reminded me that it has been a few (2 or 3) years since I have had a skin check and need to schedule.

woody, please elaborate! how did the cell phone go down the toilet?

eggmom- your post reminds me of those old Maytag ads where people would brag about how long their washers/dryers lasted. My parents had their Maytag washer for over 20 years (in a household with 4 kids) and it was still running fine when they moved to a new house & left it behind. We had a Maytag Neptune front loader for 11 years, numerous service calls so we replaced it. They don’t make them like they used to.

It’s interesting catching up on everyone’s news. Congratulations, sabaray, on the job offer! Good luck to those planning weddings and dealing with health issues - and thanks for the reminder to get to the dermatologist on a regular schedule.

woody, we’ve had portable phones go into the toilet, but never a cellphone. yuck.

D1 is off with H to do a triathlon out-of-state. Fingers crossed for good weather tomorrow.
