Parents of the HS class of 2010 - Original

YDS, prayers and best wishes to your H for a speedy recovery. The pain might be from pleurisy, which can be a complication of pneumonia. Glad he’s going to be in the hospital where they can check everything out. Hugs to you!

Healing thoughts from Texas are heading your Dh’s way.

YDS - {{{{Hugs}}}} your DH is in my thoughts and prayers as well. Hope the hospital will take good care of him and that he’ll be home soon.

YDS: Yikes. Best wishes for quick recovery and continuing wellness.

YDS, Adding my voice to the chorus of folks sending healing wishes to your DH. Let us know how he’s doing when you have a chance.

What is it this year with all the illness?!

YDS- thinking of you and your H.

pmk- wow what an excellent score, congrats

D2 and I just got back from a hike (actual mountain this time now that the snow has melted) training for her Grand Canyon trip this summer, and I am walking around like an old woman. Off to the couch now.

oh yes and K I would skip the USH SAT II

If there were any other areas I should throw in my 2c, I’ll catch them when I reread this later.

YDS- Best wishes and positive thoughts to your DH. Peace and positive thoughts to you.

YDS:

Thoughts and prayers heading your way

YDS: Speedy recovery and good prognosis for your DH, and cyber {{{ }}} for the rest of the family

YDS:

Thanks to the outpouring for your DH, I’ve learned the emoticon for hugs. So let me try it on you guys: {{{{ }}}}.

Awwww, FindAPlace. {{{{Hugs}}}} back at you. :)

Thanks LIMOMOF2. I needed that. I didn’t know we were going to have a heat wave and, unfortunately, ended up using the oven for several hours. Our Ed Foundation is positively civilized and so we take turns bringing refreshment to our monthly meeting on Monday. A trustee and I decided to do ours with a joint Easter-Passover theme. She’s now pregnant with twins and with morning sickness too regularly, so the idea of cooking is not a happy one for her. So I stepped into the breach.

So I was busy making a version of a spanakopita type recipe made with matzos, along with a walnut-date torte. So, all the windows and the skylights are open. (We live on the west side, thankfully, so A/C is usually not needed.) I was glad to escape the kitchen and made easily microwaveable leftovers for dinner.

Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes. I’m back from the hospital, though dh is not.

Because of the pneumonia, he complained of pain in his chest, so the doc did an EKG to be safe. Well, the EKG had irregularities, but he’s had an irregular EKG before, when he had to have an EKG before a hernia surgery. Regular doc told him then it was a congenital something. Doc wouldn’t let him go home after that (being Sunday he couldn’t get a hold of dh’s doc to get the OK to release him), so they transported him by ambulance to the big hospital (we were at a local branch). The X-rays showed the pneumonia. The bloodwork is all good in terms of heart disease. They’ll do a chemical stress test in the morning and should those results be good he’ll be home by midafternoon.

Three college-related thoughts:

1) The doctor seemed soooo young that I couldn’t resist myself and asked where he went to school. USC for undergrad. :)

2) Everyone we dealt with was so nice. Made me wish the boys wanted to study medicine.

3) I know that when my boys go off to college, they won’t starve. They took advantage of the fact that they were on their own for dinner and ordered a Pizza Hut Panormous Pizza. They overtipped. :)

Thanks, again, for the well wishes, prayers, good thoughts. Just this morning a friend e-mailed to let me know her dh had died this morning. Not unexpected, as he’d been in hospice. But two weeks ago, another friend’s dh died. Very unexpected. I started to feel like bad things would happen in threes. :(

YDS, good wishes to your dh. It is really scary, but it’s good for him to stay in the hospital until they are sure he’ll be OK.

Coming in late to this…YDS: glad your dh is well and in good hands.

I also have gotten into the habit of asking random people where they went to college and then I will sometimes follow up with all sorts of questions about their alma mater. Most people love to talk about their experience. So far I have refrained from asking them what they got on their SATs!

Just finished the ‘Parent Supplement’ for the GC. He asked for info that might help him suggest schools to the kids. Sadly, he is also collecting info to help the new GC write the college recs’ when she gets here next fall. I wish he could write them all before he leaves.

Of course, I put in way too much info, which will be sure to embarrass D when she is asked about it. Hope she is still speaking to me when she gets home.

YDS - so glad your DH is doing better, and crossing my fingers that he gets good news today so he can come home.

And yikes! After receiving news like that from two of your friends, I can’t blame you for being even more scared than you normally would have been.

Karen Colleges - thanks for the reminder! I have to complete those forms for the GC, and so does D! I also have to schedule a follow-up appointment with her for D (and I?) for sometime in May, after AP exams.

one remaining comment from a few pages back- expatme if there is a way he could bring the math score closer to the others, that would be great. What level math is he in currently? What area does he plan to study in college? Even though math is not his strong area, if he could possibly study over the summer. Has he taken or does he plan to take the SAT? To me, it seems the individual sections aren’t emphasized as much in the ACT, where the composite number is the one usually shown. Does anyone know how closely colleges look at the individual scores? And I assume math and maybe english would be the two more important ones?

YDS- I’m glad your H is on the mend, and the cautiousness of the hospital staff is what you want.

on the documents to the GC and meetings- D has met with the college counselor a few additional times, which is good for him to get to know her. I want to have another meeting including at least me and maybe H after we have finished our spring visits to see about adding a few more potential choices to investigate this summer.

YDS, I’m glad things turned out ok. I just checked in this morning and was very sorry to hear that your husband has been ill.
