While I was checking out the link, I wandered over to his page and then watched the YouTube of his charge to the graduates… well worth the 6 minutes… I can’t post that link here - but follow the link above

Thanks CNP for posting the link.

My S called after he got out of the APUSH exam and also mumbled something about “BSing” an essay.
I wonder if they were talking about the same essay…

I love going over on the AP forum to see what the kids who are finished thought. They give me more info than ds ever would. :)

momof3, I tried to get more details out of her on what her friends thought, she doesn’t like discussing after the test. She mentioned the New Deal and Slaves and I see those discussed also in the AP thread, I would assume those are the two she did (unless one of those wasn’t one of the choice ones).

She is off to her friends house. Her hair looks fabulous. I had to run her to the salon, then go to the flower shop where they were not the most helpful about giving me an appropriately sized pin, then back to the salon. At that point she and her friend were almost done. Off to friends house for dinner and get ready and pictures the limo will take them from there to prom to sleepover house. H might get to the picture house and snap a few of his own, I have chauffeur duties for #2 tonight.

Hope everyone can enjoy a big sigh of relief and good luck to those testing on Monday.

I think you’re a GREAT mom, QM! I’ve already bought tickets for an IMAX showing of Star Trek tomorrow night. I can’t wait!

I occasionally let my son get to school late. He works SO hard that I don’t mind.

S2 and GF are at Star Trek right now.

I am amazed that UChicago is having Scav Hunt right now – I’m sure there is considerable overlap between Scav-ers and Trekkers. My guess is that S1 and friends will go see it as soon as Scav Hunt is over, even if they haven’t slept for three days.

Our dog is named for a Star Trek DS9 character. Whenever one of the guys leaves to take an SAT or AP exam, we recite an old Star Trek line: “Bring honor to your line.” Works every time. ;)

D said that APUSH was “fine.” When I asked her how the essays were, she said they were “fine” too.

jackief - Hope your D has a great time tonight. My kids are both out tonight, younger S at a party in the city, D at school. Poor D - I feel like she lives there. :(

QM - I have on the very rare occasion let D go in to school late - but it’s usually because she was up late working the night before and still had work leftover to finish in the morning. That’s happened on two occasions because she got home from school activities so late.

Ds called for another reason, but I asked about APUSH and I also got “fine.” Did not sound as enthusiastic as he did after BC.

Ds never wants to go to school late. In fact, sometimes I’ll offer to drive him so he can get some extra sleep, but he trusts the bus more than me and so he declines the offer. Harumph.

I have a text message: “was rly good!”. Who knows when she’ll get home tonight…she’s seems to have recovered from the flu that kept her home yesterday.

I don’t figure to hear from S about APUSH until we all meet again tomorrow. I’ll have to surprise him again and ask him about the “BS” question, like I surprised him when he took the SAT in March and asked him about the essay question. He could not believe I was that well connected to have possibly known about it. I said it was all over on CC. :)

I asked how it went and got a “good”

So I said - do you mean fine? - and got a whatever :)

@ CountingDown Dax? Odo? or my favorite character Garak?

S2 was unwilling to guess how he did - though guessed right on a multiple choice question where Clinton was the right answer and then chickened out and omitted it instead, so now he’s kicking himself. He thought he got a 2 on World History last time and instead got a 5. He doesn’t like US history nearly as much, but I’m hoping he did well again.

Daughter says APUSH was “not as bad as I thought it would be.” Which is good enough for me.

No comment on APUSH…

My friend’s brother, who is at Berkeley OOS this year, took AP Chem, AP Bio, and AP Physics all in the same year. (Bio is also one of the two classes with the most WORK at my school, along with APUSH. Chem and Physics aren’t easy, either–not as much work but rigorous concept mastery required.) He got As and 5s in all three.

Ugh! I was talking to a parent of a senior at our HS. Apparently there was a snafu at the school and they only ordered 20 of the AP English Lit exams. Well, they have three classes of kids taking this class so … Don’t know how they decided who the 20 were that got to take it on the right day and who gets delayed. Presumably the HS will now have to pony up the late fee. (Maybe everyone will have to take it late.)

I wonder how many of the students are just going to bag it, since almost all, if not all, are seniors and so they will only care if they get credit in some fashion at the college they go to. I’m reading in many places that colleges may only offer credit for one of the two English APs.

So much for the HS trying to encourage the number of students taking the AP exam, which they do primarily by only allowing the weighted GPA boost if the test is taken. Again, pretty much a moot point for seniors.

mathmom – Kira (as in Kira Nerise). Short, sweet, doesn’t sound ridiculous if you have to yell it across the yard. Her name before we adopted her was too close to S’s, so to avoid confusion amongst the neighbors who might think we were offering S a cookie if he did his business outdoors, we changed the dog’s name.

So today was a big day. APUSH this morning (I am rather certain I got a 5; I enjoyed writing those essays more than I can possibly describe, which my science-y parents don’t understand), my first funeral this afternoon (a friend’s father), and then I stayed at my literary magazine’s editor-in-chief’s house til 9 working on the magazine layout. Phew. Feels good to be home and online :)

FAP - well, at least your HS only “encourages” more testing. Mine automatically fails you for the course if you don’t take the test, including if you arrive too late to start the MC. I’ve heard rumors that you fail if you fail the AP, too (1 or 2), but I’m not sure about that one.

@ counting down That’s a good one, you can tell all our dogs were males!
