Parents of the HS class of 2010 - Original

Ds was not enthusiastic about physics B at all. Neither are the cc kids.

All those with kids who took the AP Physics test need to report back in July as to results. Perhaps the curve will be forgiving. My S said the only kid in his class who seemed to have no issues with the test has a father who’s a physics prof, so I guess it’s kind of like when my S breezes through math classes.

FAP - Definitely no wheels, alas. Although if you have any suggestions for stuff within walking distance of UT-Austin, I’ll keep it in mind–TASP is about self-governance so we decide what we do on the weekends w/ a discretionary budget.

Congrats on TASP, Keilexandra!

FAP–that’s unusual about mechanics. I had always heard that E&M was the tough one. I’ll forward the CC thread to my D. She is taking the alternate mechanics test a week from Friday.

Physics B report-“okay
maybe better than okay”. I think she doesn’t want to jinx it, but thinks there’s a chance she could have done well. On to prep for the Thursday Macro exam and a European Civ project

LILori – Oh yeah! He has done cooking and catering for up to 300, both on volunteer and paid jobs.

S2 had his first IB exam today – part 1 of Econ SL. He was very pleased with how it went. Part 2 is tomorrow morning.

Keilexandra, congratulations on your wonderful accomplishment!

DS#2 “survived” his day of AP Bio in the a.m. and AP Physics B in the afternoon. Was in the gym from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., with a half hour break for lunch.
I didn’t ask about the tests, and he didn’t volunteer any info. To top this off, both his Bio teacher and Physics teacher are giving tests tomorrow! :(

Keilexandra, congratulations!!!

What is wrong with those teachers? That is so unfair, even to the kids who only had one of the two exams!

LIMOMOF2,
I think the Bio and Physics teachers thought they were doing the kids a favor by giving the tests so quickly after the AP’s that the kids wouldn’t need to do any additional studying last night. (Their trimester ends next Friday and I think the teachers needed one more grade)

But my kid was “fried” when he came home yesterday. Couldn’t concentrate on anything.
Can’t imagine why.

I understand that part, but those tests are exhausting. Plus, the kids probably have work for their other classes. My D took the physics AP yesterday, and had tons of homework for her other classes.

Yup, he has a presentation in AP Spanish on Thursday, tons of reading for English, studying for math test, work to do on final projects for physics and math, etc. I don’t think any of that was accomplished last night. ;)

D is sick as a dog. She is missing school today and has APs tomorrow and Thursday so she is going to miss French Math and Science 3 days in a row. She is in a panic, but I am making her stay home to try and at least get some rest before the APs.

We had the guidance counselor meeting yesterday in the morning to discuss colleges and next year’s schedule
then DD had the Physics test, and then she was off to her tutoring/teaching job. She has a 5-day break over Memorial Day weekend, thankfully.

DD has a tough schedule lined up for 12th grade and she asked to switch out of AP Lit, but the guidance counselor wouldn’t let her, saying it was an important one to keep in. She isn’t a strong reading/writing student and feels she will be on overload, and I agree. I’m going to post her classes and maybe someone here can advise us? TY!

AP Lit
AP Spanish
AP Enivon. Science ( originally was AP Chem but we changed this)
AP Calc
AP Microecon.
Japanese 4
Gov. elective ( required)

I have to run out the door, but will definitely post later, psychmom. Ds had six APs this year, and it was too much, IMO. Next year, he’s supposed to have six again, but he’s meeting with the GC about dropping one. I don’t think she’ll give him grief about it.

Thanks, Youdon’tsay. I’m curious if others think the AP Lit needs to stay, especially for a child who is more math-sciency.

QMom, Hope your daughter feels better soon!

QM - hope your D feels better soon.

psychmom–can you tell us more? Are the microecon and gov classes each 1 semester classes? Could she go back to AP Chem in order to convince the GC to let her scale back from the AP Lit? What colleges is she aiming for? The GC is going to be writing the counselor letter, right?

Psychmom, did your D take AP Engl. Lang. this year? If so, I don’t think it’s as important that she take AP Lit. What are her other options? I’m sure she still has to take English. My D will be taking a similarly tough schedule next year, including AP Lit - but she had other options that would have been equally good.

Wow, Keil, you’ll be meeting a lot of CC kids at TASP. It sounds like so much fun. I wish I would have found CC earlier. My oldest would have loved TASP, but we had never heard of it.

Queen’s Mom, I hope the Queen feels better soon. What a horrible time to get sick.

CountingDown, I’m impressed by your son’s cooking skills.

Best wishes to all the test takers!
