Parents of the HS class of 2010 - Original

Bubbe:

Fabulous. Grannies can be very helpful to their GS/GD, especially if there are lots of siblings. Grandparents can offer a special kind of guidance to students that parents sometimes can’t.

Welcome to our world.

With a screen name like Bubbe, could you be anything other than a grandmother? ;)

Welcome!

D came back from AP World and her only comment when I asked her how she did was “I’m afraid I’ll jinx it if I tell you” so here’s hoping for good news. We can use some.

Yes, it seems APWH was not too bad. Hope everyone did well!

Last year my son said he thought he’d gotten a 1 or 2 (on AP World) and he ended up with a 5. May all your kids have done as well!

DD finished APs yesterday and is off tomorrow for a 4 day trip with her honors choir to perform in a competition and to have some well deserved fun!

I can honestly say that I am glad her junior year is almost over as she makes me tired just watching all that she does! Besides all of the APs and a college math class she also has been either in rehearsals or in musical productions since last November. She will be performing in two musicals next month before leaving for the month of July to do a precollege program. Then it will be home in August to start working on college applications!

S2 just returned from NY where his Jazz Band won the major national Jazz competition, took an AP Language Arts test he feels good about (took AP Calc AB before leaving), scored a goal in lacrosse, and skipped the last two hours of school today to watch Star Trek. Life, from his point of view, is grand. Only faces APUSH (make-up) and SAT I besides some final papers and projects. I’ve never seen him so happy.

idad - Congratulations to your son’s band on their win! My DD is like your son and is happy as could possibly be this year. She has had not only a wonderful year in school with great results, but also has has several lead roles in musicals (her passion). She enjoys being very busy and is able to handle school as well as all of her rehearsals and show and keep up her grades!

What college math class has your DD taken? My S has almost completed linear algebra and will move to multivariable calc for his senior year. He’s still really open as to what he’ll major in come college time, so colleges that have integrated science or interdiscplinary programs in the math/science/engineering areas all look really good to him.

I agree, just watching the pace they have to keep up during junior year is exhasuting just to watch. At least if they’ve tested early, senior year can be blissfully free of SAT I/II/ACT. Then again, replacing that with college essays may be more stressful for some.

FindAPlace - The college math class she took at the hs is the first year of college calculus. She will take the second year as a senior. She loves math and has always done well in it so she takes the highest level of math that she can at her school. She plans to major in theatre, but just happens to love math also!

I’ll be happy when this school year is over, too! DS is feeling pretty burned out. Outdoor track season up here is kind of frustrating, because it’s so short! Only 4 regular season meets. His times aren’t improving as he had hoped they were - there’s not enough time to gain some momentum and peak! The three post-season meets should go better for him, I think.

Who gets out of school the latest? Our last day is Monday, June 22. Blech. The Fourth of July is at the end of the following week!

^ML, you’ve got our school district beat by just a few days(basically the weekend). D is also feeling rather maxed out what with all of the testing plus a big project due in Physics. The one benefit of school ending relatively late is not having it restart until after Labor Day.

Welcome Bubbe…very cool to see a grandparent involved in a student’s admissions process.:)

Wow, so late! My school year essentially ends by May 29th… the first week of June is finals, and we get exemptions from those if it’s a full-year course with an A average.

Last Regents exam June 25th, last day of school June 26. That’s NY - it makes summer programs outside NY a real problem.

Mathmom, my niece has the opposite problem in Georgia – the really good debate programs her coach wants her to attend all run into the second week of August – and she’s back at school 8/1.

S2 had Macro and Micro today. One more left…IB Spanish SL on Monday after the prom.

Wow, some crazy early AND late schedules. I guess it makes sense for TASP to be scheduled right smack in the middle of July–allows for maximum flexibility (although it goes until 8/8, so wouldn’t work in Georgia).

It has been a tough year, but it is great to see the joy when it is there. One never knows what is coming next, it is good to savor the good moments when they come.

Hi all. Just trying to keep up again. Not very successfully, I might add.
D is feeling so sick today but could not stay home because she has 2 exams and needs to prepare for IB tests. I cannot imagine she can do very well when she is feeling so poorly. I feel guilty for allowing her to go to school. A couple of weeks ago, during the swine panic, I would have barred the door. No fever, so I let her go. I am afraid of what this illness will do to her GPA, because she has not been herself for all of this testing. Too much stress.
I am going to help with the setup of Project Graduation tonight. The junior parents help out the senior parents so they can focus on the actual graduation ceremony. I cannot believe it will be one short year from now I will be seeing her graduate!!!

Welcome, Bubbe!

We’re finally at the point where the end is in sight. Lots of stress and illness here as well. But exams seem to have gone well so far. One more AP next week (alternate date for Physics C Mechanics) and a few finals the two weeks after that (light load due to no finals in Physics or Calculus). Then DONE on June 5. (Well, other than June 6 subject tests and June 13 ACT…)

Prom tomorrow night with a handful of friends. (D2 and I played personal shopper yesterday and found her a great dress since she had no time to shop!)

we need more happy talk here. At least APs will be done this afternoon (sorry with the exception of the makeup exams.) D is taking advantage of the “don’t have to go to school the morning of an afternoon AP” allowance.
