Parents of the HS class of 2010 - Original

Yes the 19 YO son is the baseball player… Red shirted this year while recovering from his knee surgery but will be back on the mound in a couple of weeks in his summer league.

Birthday presents included two new pairs of cleats (pitchers wear them out in a hurry) and a new baseball bag… easy kid to buy for :)

Jackie F

I think “Risky Business” … if so, my favorite quote from that movie is

"Who’s the U-Boat Commander? "

Happy birthday to today’s birthday holders!

Here in the LA region we’ve got double agnst … “Mannywood” was suspended after flunking his drug test and meanwhile, the Lakers look like they are playing on drugs. And we have no pro football team to rag on. It is any wonder that we revel with our regional college teams?

We went to the Northwestern U presentation today. It was kind of hard to envision cold climes when it should reach 90 here today. My S joked that they used false advertising with the NU slide show since not one (yes, he was right) pictures was shown with snow. However, the presenter did mention the weather in passing, stating even the CA students will live through it. So S leans over and whispers, “Does this mean they’ve never lost a student to exposure?” I told him he could make his final decision on whether to apply to a school in this freezer zone after he completes his internship in climate changes this summer.) I think he’ll be applying since there integrated science program really intrigues him.

Does anyone know where the “Field of Dreams” in Iowa is? That is one of my very favorite movies, and we will be visiting Grinnell this summer. I was hoping we might be able to visit the field…

Bengal Mom:

Going there has long been one of my “dreams” - something like 150 miles west of Chicago…

Here is a link to a site:

I think I would have had to excuse myself due to uncontrollable laughing!

FAP … re not losing any students to exposure… Just tell him they haven’t lost any WHOLE students, just ears, nose, and a couple of fingers and toes… OH Wait, you want him to go there. LOL

Dean Ottino is a great dean and the whole ISP thing is really a great program.

Good luck to your S for NU then!

Happy birthday, everyone!

We are in the middle of a moviethon. Started with Fever Pitch, switched over to Shakespeare in Love, then watched the rented Lean on Me and tonight will watch whatever Harry Potter movie that ABC is showing. I’ve lost track.

Gosh, hope the guys don’t have a lot of homework this weekend.

Has anyone been to the 8 of the Best conference? We’re gong next week.

Happy birthday to the 5/16ers!

S2 is happily taking the day off, it’s our last day with S1 he flies off to CA tomorrow for a summer job. He decided to start shaving a couple of weeks ago when it got hot and got a haircut today, so he’s looking pretty good, though I’m not convinced he has the right wardrobe - even for a tech company.

yds, Never been. In fact, I’ve never heard of it. What is it?

[8 of the Best Colleges](http://www.8ofthebest.org/)

I keep hoping they will make a swing through Northern California… Several of the schools are on DD list and it would be great to meet them without having to fly all over the US (not that she has any time to do that anyway…)

Hope that it is a great session - please let us know how it went…

I will. Ds is interested, to varying degrees, in several of those schools.

jackie, that movie is one of our all-time favorites. Particularly as I’m a Princeton alum. ;)

Happy Birthday to the birthday crowd!

D is at prom tonight. Did not get to see her dressed up since she went to a friend’s house with a bunch of girls earlier this evening. She better have pictures…

We’re going to a Colleges that Change Lives conference tomorrow. DougBetsy–are you and S going–it’s at the Bethesda Marriott at 2:00 (no registration required). D is interested in Whitman and Reed. Here is the link: [Washington D.C. Area CTCL Events | Colleges That Change Lives](Washington DC Charter Schools Program – Colleges That Change Lives)

And what do Princeton alums think of Harold and Kumar go to White Castle? ;)

We went to CTCL last year and really enjoyed it. It’s a great toe in the water if you’ve got a reluctant one. :)

Well I did hear tell that there was some marijuana on campus, but of course I wouldn’t know any details at all about that… ;)

Here’s my favorite Princeton media reference, from a Simpsons episode:

Sideshow Bob: Oh come, now. You’ve wanted to be Krusty’s sidekick since you were five! What about the buffoon lessons? The four years at clown college?
Cecil: I’ll thank you not to refer to Princeton that way.

We will probably be there. I’ll be the one with the gorgeous daughter. Wave to me.

Astromom:

DS is at the prom tonight as well. He graduated last year but is dating a 2009er so is going to the prom anyway.

I’m really happy about him getting to go as he was unable to go to his own prom last year due to a knee injury… :frowning:

This one is a “makeup” in my mind :)
