Parents of the HS class of 2010 - Original

ML: Congrats and brag away :)

Can I just say that my DD is officially a Senior!!! Her last exam was today and since she has study hall in the period scheduled for an exam tomorrow, she does not have to report! She can go to her sister’s 8th grade graduation tomorrow am and then they will both be high schoolers :)

Now if I can only get the math teacher to correct the math in her online score book to reflect the A that DD has instead of a B, we’ll be good to go.

And we’ll see her SAT scores early in the am too. Yay!

Oh, well, if we’re bragging, my daughter '10 will be spending a summer in wonderful art programs. She was given a full tuition scholarship to the Pre-College program at the Art Institute of Chicago, and has been named a California Art Scholar, with a full scholarship to the California Summer School of the Arts. Her summer is so full that she has to fly directly from Chicago to Los Angeles because one program ends the same day the next one starts. We’ll only see her for a week after high school ends for the summer, and a week before it begins!

Congratulations to all the braggers and their children! Good luck to those anticipating SAT results tomorrow morning! D has nothing coming tomorrow.

May I just say you should never feel guilty for yelling at your high achieving child. If he didn’t deserve it then, surely there is a time that he will eserve it.

Congratulations to him on all his achievements…

Congrats to your D, TrinSF, and good luck to everyone awaiting SAT scores!

Yikes. I was so wrapped up in the American Idol thread I forgot about SAT results tomorrow. Wonder whether ds did. He hasn’t mentioned it.

Ok, since we’re bragging …

Ds was asked by the principal to spend a week this summer helping write curriculum for next year. Not paid, but he’ll get free lunches, and he thinks it will look good on his college apps. This cuts into this usual volunteering gig, but another plus is he’ll be working with a team of 10 teachers, so maybe he’ll provide them with fodder for those LORs.

Bragging… hmm, D got packed in less than an hour for an IB G4 overnight field trip. A personal best for her.

Looks like a fun trip, they’ll be doing a lot of water sampling for pollution.

yay to all the great kids! congrats to you all!!

Of course Tufts syndrome was in the back of my mind the whole time. I couldn’t think of a good way to bring it up. The rep had said at the panel meeting we had a couple months ago that interest was not a factor and he said at this talk that lack of an interview was not a disadvantage.

But all the candidates we admitted IMHO were the best choices, the one with the high grades and science prize truly did lack in other areas and I agreed with his denial.

I have seen no sign of Tufts syndrome from our schools Naviance data - after poring through the Naviance data way too much the only school that looked guilty was Emory.

Just looked up son’s subject test scores. US History 790, Bio 730 and Math2 610. The last was a mistake, if he’d taken the time to do other practice tests he would have discovered that he could probably get over 700 on the Lit without studying. I guess that’s still the plan for June, though I’d really like him to have slightly higher scores on the SAT1 and hate the thought of having to wait till October to see if he gets them. I have to keep telling myself that the SAT scores are only a small piece of the puzzle. I don’t even actually know how many SAT subject tests most of his schools want - I guess I should look. Anyway, I’m happy with the scores, I hope he is.

Congrats to all the children of MaineLonghorn (I have a son who is finishing up the eighth grade and I think I will show him your son’s story to motivate him!), TrinSF, Youdon’tsay and Karen Colleges!!! I love hearing all the wonderful news!

I will also add that the workshop was meant to be generic for highly competitive schools, and not special cased for Tufts.

Glad you are glad with the scores mathmom  Hope others will be also as they roll in.

Whew. I can’t keep up.

Congratulations to all the kids who deserve brags. Great awards out there and worthwhile summer plans.

And, jackief, thanks for the admissions insight. Very interesting.

Looked up ds’s scores. USH, 700. Physics, 690. Would have been happy enough, but I made the classic cc mistake of going on the thread where kids are talking about their 780s and 800s. He only needs two, so maybe he shouldn’t report the physics score as he already has Math II and it’s in the 700s.

I’ll be curious to see how he reacts to the scores.

YDS, yes, CC is a very depressing forum. DS took ACT with minimal reading and got a 99% score. However, the whole page there are kids asking " should I retake a 35?".

SScores of different SAT II tells different story, For example, for Math II , an 800 in only mean 90% and a 700 says 61%. For US history, an 800 = 99% and 700 = 78%. In other words, a 750 in one subject is much harder than a 750 in some other subject.

If you are seeking that 800, you have better chance taking Math II, Physics, and world history.

Higher Education Professionals | College Board;

S2 got his SAT-II Lit – 730. He seemed pretty pleased; he took the one Blue Book practicHe is done with SAT-IIs now – he took USH and Math Level II last year – 770s on both.

His school has reversed itself and is now saying that teachers must give finals, even to the kids who took APs (and in some cases IBs) for each class. S2 has a TON of projects now – lots of papers, which ensures we will be going nuts til the bitter end.

Congrats on and best of luck to all of the '10 kids with their respective honors and/or summer plans!

D checked her SAT II–US History & English Lit.–results this morning, before school. She was happy with both scores and is immensely relieved that she won’t need to retake them this fall.:)

Told D I wouldn’t check her test scores before she had a chance, but she forgot about them this morning. I want to check them - just wondering if I can act surprised when I see her if I sneak a peek.

Does anyone know if a 1520 for an athlete is considered good. Dang kid did not even study for the test, she figured she could take it again and study for that one. We had one college say that if she kept her grades to 3.5 and a 1450 on SAT’s that was good, just not sure.

First time poster, long time lurker!!!

If that 1520 is out of 1600, it is near perfect. If that 1520 is out of 2400, it is not.

Welcome, OCmom.

When you say 1450 and 1520, are you referring to 2-part scores or 3-part scores?
